Second month on wegovy 2.4, sudden side effects

I’ve been on WLI in some iteration for 2 years now. I started wegovy at the start of the year.

I have been fine untiL this week. On Sunday it was my birthday and I probably did overindulge a little on really bad food, but took my injection like normal that evening.

I had horrendous sulphur burps on Monday, progressing to diarrhoea on Monday night and Tuesday morning. It took four Imodium to stop it. Since then I have had bad stomach cramps (both in my stomach and lower gut), especially when I eat. I also have very bad wind.

I feel miserable. Is there anyway I can stop this happening again?

Oh I also had horrendous heartburn on Monday night, to the point I had to take omeprazole (prescribed for pain killers to protect my stomach). I just feel downright miserable

Sometimes it’s better not to take Imodium as it can delay the ‘flushing’ out of whatever is irritating your bowel. Have you contacted the medical team that supplies your Wegovy?

I had no choice, I had things to get on with yesterday. Why would I contact them? There’s nothing for them to tell me?

Er, because they’re supplying your medication so will have knowledge of side effects/interactions. Far more knowledge than randoms on the internet.

Well, I think that the birthday celebration food is at least partly to blame. So a period of eating very simple and easy to digest food would probably be a good idea, but you will know that already.

You could try delaying your next injection, and/or reducing the dose perhaps too.

Hope it all settles down for you soon.

Yeah I’m thinking it’s this as it started with awful sulphur burps. I can barely eat today due to the pain so that’s a plus I guess

My usual approach if I get an upset stomach with D&V, whether caused by WLI or not, is to have a day at least of no food at all, just water or dioralyte. Then if I feel ok on that, a day or two of the "brat" type foods (banana, rice, apple sauce, toast) which for me is usually just the banana and the toast. Once I'm ok on that, then I add back in my normal foods but keeping it easily digestible for a while.

That’s easy to solve.. you had bad food. We can’t eat that while taking these, it can make us ill. and if we come off the jabs we can’t have it as we’ll put the weight on. We have to accept a life without those indulgences

aquitodavia · 20/05/2026 14:18

This happened to me after a wedding, and also eating spicy food. It passes.

I’ve eaten “bad” food before while on the jabs and not had an issue, I think it’s just the sheer volume of food and then the injection the same day

I had a similar problem with 1mg wegovy, did a month fine then the second month I had horrendous diarrhea for 3 weeks following a fatty lamb dinner, I’ve since gone back down a dose but I’m finding that isn’t cutting it and I’m not sure what to do! So no advice, but solidarity with you

Thankfully it’s all passed. Definitely just the heavy food.
