Is it usual for Mounjaro to reduce appetite on day one?

I had my first dose of mounjano this morning. Stomach seemed a little grumbly around 12.

We sat down to lunch at 2pm. I was not expecting any weight loss or effects this early on, so plated up my usual (too generous portion) of spag bol and slow roasted garlic bread.

I ate around a 1/4 of my plate, and gave up halfway through one slice of garlic bread. It all tasted wonderful, I didn't feel sick, I didn't feel painfully full, I just didn't want to carry on eating.

It's the oddest sensation I've ever had! I usually would have polished that off (and more to be honest) then gone looking for pudding.

I don't feel like eating still! Dh even brought a picnic bar back out of habit for me from the shop. I don't fancy that either (unheard of!)

Is this usual? I had read that it was going to take weeks to work and that this dose isn't considered theraputic?

Yep that's exactly how it was for me, had my first ever dose around 3pm and my 6pm that night I only had 3 bites of dinner.

Absolutely miraculous medication.

14 months in now and almost 5 stone down, another 1-1.5 to go! I've worked my way up the doses and just started the highesr dose which is 15mg about 2 weeks ago

Yes, that’s how it worked for me. I took my first dose at around 8am and although I was a bit hungry at 12:30pm, I could only finish half my lunch. Unheard of for me!

I took my first dose on a Thursday evening and couldn’t finish my lunch on the Friday. I did wonder if it was a placebo effect at the time but I don’t think it was. It carried on like that, I started losing weight straight away, I lost 13 stone in a year and most of that was on 5 or 7.5mg. I only went as high as 10 and lost the last couple of stone on that. Some of us are just more sensitive to the medication it seems.

(I know some will say I lost too quickly, and they’re not wrong but it wasn’t a deliberate decision it was just the way it happened for me).

Thirteen stone in a year! Wow! Congratulations MummyInTheNecropolis
that’s amazing!

I think a lot of people get suppression immediately on 2.5mg but as it’s supposed to be an introductory dose, many people don’t and will need to increase their dose after 4weeks to 5mg.

Some people are very slow responders and need to move up to 7.5mg or even 10mg before the effects kick in. Every body reacts differently so it’s impossible to predict how you will respond to the medication.

I’ve been on MJ for 9 months and have only moved up to 3.5mg a few months ago as it was very effective for me at the starting dose. I still don’t feel the need to increase to 5mg though as the lower dose is working.

That’s very helpful to know, thank you!

Yes my appetite vanished instantly. I've lost 3 stone (12 st down to 9) over the last year and now I'm trying to maintain. Taking 5mg currently but I'm aware my appetite keeps returning before the next dose. Bit worrying.

KoalaSquid · 17/05/2026 19:17

Yes, when I started it had an immediate effect on me. I took it Sunday night and when I woke up Monday morning I had zero food noise and my stomach filled quickly when I did eat.

I thought it may have been a fluke, as I started to feel a bit hungry again around 7pm.

I thought I'd learn from my lunch, and this time focus on protein first. I had some greek yoghurt with chia seed, pecans and raspberries.

Half of it is now in the fridge for breakfast because I felt like I'd had enough again.

Also starting to realise I've may never have felt satiated before as this is an entirely new sensation. I'm not so full my stomach hurts or feels uncomfortable, I just have had enough. The only side effect so far is burping (not normal for me at all) and thirstier than usual.

What is this, witchcraft?!

I took my first dose on Thursday evening the week just gone, by Friday couldn’t finish my tuna wrap! I’m autistic so food is big issue for me like salads etc because it’s a sensory issue for me but I’m trying to up my protein and have only been eating a quarter of what I normally would!

Laarah · 17/05/2026 20:26

I have had no appetite almost from the beginning. I moved up to 5mg a couple of weeks ago and feel awful. Really nauseous and just generally horrible. I’m moving back down to 2.5mg with my next dose tomorrow

Absolute witchcraft!

Another one here who never felt satiety until mounjaro. It's absolutely changed my life
