18 months on Mounjaro and not losing

Looking for other non-losers!
I’ve been on Mounjaro for 18 months now. I had a period in the middle where I lost some weight (about 2.5 stone). Then I stopped losing altogether about 9 months ago. I’ve since put on half a stone.
My current dose is 10mg. My BMI is 29.
I feel very disheartened. I’m in a lovely group elsewhere on mumsnet who we’ve shared our journey with from the start. I’m the only one who hasn’t reached their goal and has actually gained. I feel like I’m some freak.
Anyone else like this?

That’s complete bollocks @Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice , insulin resistance, oestrogen, cortisol, testosterone, sleep deprivation, ghrelin, leptin. All things that affect weight gain/loss. All extremely individual to us as people.

You’re wrong, it isn’t as simple as the laws of physics at all.

Agreed that all those things make it harder, but there’s just no way anyone would spend months in a calorie deficit and not lose weight, it’s impossible. I used to think the same, but the truth is I wasn’t tracking my calories properly and I suspect most people not losing weight do know this hence why people get so defensive. Just need to be very honest with themselves. I was watching the reruns of secret eaters on YouTube where they all swear blind they hardly eat, with hidden cameras they were found to be mindlessly eating without even realising. Log everything you eat, will surprise you.

EnduringEthel · 11/06/2026 07:28

I disagree, a quick google would agree with me.

Polkadotdash · 11/06/2026 08:41

@northernlight20 that may have been the case for you but it’s not for me. I’m not a snacker and a picker. I’m not a secret eater. My eating patterns are very boring. I eat the same food at the same time every day. I don’t need to track what I’m eating because it’s the same every day. I’m not a foodie. I find food quite boring. I don’t like restaurants or eating out or travelling to places to try new cuisines. Please don’t assume that the reasons you have been overweight in the past are the same for me.

OP, what are you looking for other non losers for? Just so you know you are not alone or do you want to hear their advice?

The OP has said several times now she would like to hear others’ experience; that she is not looking for advice, especially from people who are not having the kind of struggles she is experiencing.

It sounds like you have resigned yourself to the fact you can't lose on mj and have given up. Fair enough if that is the case but its a shame because it had worked for you. If you refuse to weigh and track (even eating the same foods you could be eating too many calories now you are smaller).
Good luck in whatever you decide to do. This journey isnt easy

Polkadotdash · 17/06/2026 08:53

I’ve managed to scrape together cash for a 12.5mg pen. This will absolutely be my last one. It will get me through the summer and then back into baggy winter clothes season and I will just have to accept being fat!

Have you seen your GP for bloods, OP?

oliviaAustin · 17/06/2026 09:00

Well you need to go up a dose or take a break then. Your body has grown used to the drug.

I have. And I asked about the lack of effect of the MJ. She said ‘well stop taking it then’. And that was that!

I’ve been on it just over a year, currently on 10mg. I’m down from 13 stone 12 to 9 stone 3 (managed 9 stone 2 one week). I have stayed between 9 stone 2 and 9 stone 6 for three months. I think my body is just saying this is now your weight - (I really wanted to get to under 9 stone). But I’m chuffed to bits and my bmi is 22.

You've lost nearly 5 stone (amazing btw!) so your TDEE will have come down significantly. This means that to be in a calorie deficit now, you will need to consume considerably fewer calories than when you started initially.

Bulbsbulbsbulbs · 17/06/2026 11:04

I've experienced the same as you. It just doesn't work any more to lose weight, but I kind of maintain on it- I'm on 7.5.

The appetite suppression lasts a couple of days and then stops, although I don't get that aching hunger I used to get.

I think long term it's hard on the body to eat so little- I only lose on 1000 a day.

It's a bit shit really, but I'm 3 stone lighter

You don't have to accept it. You are choosing to accept it by refusing to try to change it. After 18 months i think you may have diet fatigue, especially if supression hasn't been great.

I think you will regret not tracking if you regain all the weight you lost when you stop (despite how much you may deny this now). None of us want to regain. If we burn more calories than we consume, we lose weight. There are obviously conditions which make that harder to do but that but changing things up will likely make a difference.
So, why not try using the 12.5, with calorie counting as a last attempt and see how you get on? Its your last pen so you may as well try and get your moneys worth.

I think it’s the kind of treatment that works short term. If you can shift all the weight in the first year you’re winning. After that, the returns are minimal.

There are plenty of threads on here where people have continued to lose weight long after year 1.

Definitely. But the op point blank refuses to engage with posts that suggest she could be overeating as she seems so against food tracking. It’s all mounjaro’s fault apparently it just stops working after 1yr. It’s not a miracle jab, you have to actually put in some work with it.

Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice · 18/06/2026 09:54

It's pretty clear that the OP is looking for a reason OTHER than the absence of a calorie deficit for her not losing weight.

Of course we all know there isn't one, so it's been a fairly hopeless and probably very frustrating exercise for her.

Polkadotdash · 18/06/2026 09:56

Good Morning @northernlight20. Posts like yours are EXACTLY the reason I don’t engage with posting my diet/food intake. You have immediately jumped to the conclusion that I’m a lazy over eater. If you had bothered to read my thread you would see that between Jan and Oct last year I lost 2.5 stone. About 15% of my body weight. Then it stopped. If that’s not your experience, scroll on by and go find another thread to bash people on.

I haven't picked up that anyone said you are lazy. You need less calories as you get smaller unless your activity increases to make up for that difference. You said you eat the same thing so its assumed your calorie intake remained the same and you are eating to maintenance now. You haven't suggested there is a medical reason. So tracking seems the obvious strategy to get the most from your money and get that scale moving again. You do come across being very defensive which is interesting. Rather than try something else you seem to be looking for others to validate your view that its not working, when it has worked for you previously, you just need to shake things up a bit. I think your previous post said bodies arent machines. I agree.. variety helps!

You haven’t been bashed by me. You are just very defensive. You posted on a public forum, so you will get opinions, I don’t have to scroll by when I see nonsense posted. You are eating to maintenance whether you choose to believe that or not is up to you.

Polkadotdash · 18/06/2026 10:50

If I seem defensive it’s because I keep getting asked the same question and being offered diet advice. That’s not the point of this thread. But just to make you happy here’s what I eat in a day:

Breakfast: Dust. 2 litres of water.
Lunch: Protein. 2 litres of water
Dinner: Fruit. 2 litres of water
snacks: 6 litres of water.

I can see where I’m going wrong. It’s the fruit, isn’t it? Maybe if I swap that for some vitamin pills I will get that last stone off?

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 18/06/2026 11:14

I am not going to offer you any diet advice, OP.

I am going to say that if you remove the MJ from the equation, ten months in a calorie deficit with no weight loss and in fact some weight gain is a concern which may indicate an underlying issue. Bloods were a good start and I am sorry you were fobbed off by your GP. I would personally go back and insist upon a referral to an endocrinologist.
