18 months on Mounjaro and not losing

Looking for other non-losers!
I’ve been on Mounjaro for 18 months now. I had a period in the middle where I lost some weight (about 2.5 stone). Then I stopped losing altogether about 9 months ago. I’ve since put on half a stone.
My current dose is 10mg. My BMI is 29.
I feel very disheartened. I’m in a lovely group elsewhere on mumsnet who we’ve shared our journey with from the start. I’m the only one who hasn’t reached their goal and has actually gained. I feel like I’m some freak.
Anyone else like this?

@BreakingBroken I haven’t lost 20% yet. The expense of the higher dose means it’s not an option. And I am at the point of stopping because it feels like I’m wasting my money. I just wondered if others were like this.

@HappyWineDay I’m looking for others who have been on MJ for a long time and not lost anything. I’m not looking for scrutiny of what I eat on a daily basis. I know how these threads unravel very quickly into picking over what people have eaten and offering advice on living on fresh air and dust as being the only way to lose anything. It’s not what I’m posting here for. I’m trying to find others who, like me, are stuck not losing. Looking for solidarity, not advice on my diet.

Why are you looking for others like you rather than diet advice? Even if there are others, it won’t help you, something g has to change.

My advice would be to stop wasting your money on something that isn’t working, since you don’t want diet advice.

@Blondeshavemorefun can you share your experience of WLI with me?

OP posts:
Polkadotdash · 17/05/2026 16:10

@lottlecat what’s been your experience of WLI? Did you lose consistently? How long were you on them for? What dose? How much did you lose? Was your experience like mine? I easily find people who have lost easily and consistently, reaching goal weight in 6 months or so. There is much less online about people who are taking much longer to reach goal weight. That’s who I’m really interested in talking to.

I had to give up nearly all carbs, add fasting as well as calorie counting to lose weight even on MJ. Now I am at a healthy weight, I seem to have more flexibility but can't come off without gaining. It is so hard when you feel you are doing everything right. Sympathies. My theory (and there science to back it up) is that it is all about insulin resistance and the fat itself makes it harder to lose. Calorie requirements to be in 500 calorie deficit ( to lose 1lb a week) are also very low if you are short like me. It is such a viscous cycle. Could you afford to go up a dose temporarily for a final push to get a bit more off? Maybe try 12 weeks on one of the blood sugar diets ??

tobee · 17/05/2026 16:21

Is there any reason why you are on 10mg? What about going up to 12.5mg? I’m surprised to see only one other person (if I’ve read correctly) suggest going up.

I’m hardcore lol. Didn’t work for me till 10. Went to 15. Lost 6st in all. Lowering doses and lost another stone so 7 in all and been kept weight off for a year so far.

but till I counted calories it didn’t work

I’ve said a couple of times I can’t afford the higher dose. Cheapest 12.5mg is about £240 a month and cheapest 15mg is about £260. I’m getting decent suppression off 10mg. What more would the higher dose do?

I’m sure many others are like this maybe not on this forum but globally.
As scary as the prospect is, I don’t think continuing is feasible (and indeed there are posts of people who restart with success after a break).
Take 6 months to maintain where your at without WLI, focus on fitness developing muscle and see what the landscape looks like in December.
Are you sure 1-2 months at 15 are impossible?

Polkadotdash · 17/05/2026 16:32

@Blondeshavemorefun 7 stone is amazing. How long did that take? Did you have any plateau periods?

OP posts:
SilenceInside · 17/05/2026 16:33

If you’re getting decent suppression and definitely eating in a calorie deficit then I can’t understand why you’d be plateaued for many months, or even gaining weight. Is there anything else at play? Thyroid issues??

I’ve been on Mounjaro for about 22 months now, I had a lot to lose (12st) so I’m still not quite at target. I have had a few points where weight loss has slowed, but no real plateau until the last few weeks. That’s because I’m almost at target (BMI is currently 25 and a bit) and finding it harder to create a significant calorie deficit. I am increasing my activity in an effort to get to my final goal. I will move up to 12.5 or 15mg if needed, currently on 10mg and have been for many months now.

cramptramp · 17/05/2026 16:38

I’ve used them all. Saxenda Wegovy and mounjaro. They all eventually stopped working for me. In that they stopped curbing my appetite despite increasing dosage etc. I lost nearly 4 stone and have kept most of it off. I did have to stick to 1200 calories to lose anything but I included chocolate in my calorie intake every day. I changed to the different jabs when I started putting on a few pounds. I’ve checked with a GP and this can happen to some people and it may be what is happening to you.

Isobel201 · 17/05/2026 16:43

I've been on Mounjaro, lost 2 stone fairly quickly in 6 months, then the last stone has taken ages to lose. Its not been a very quick fix for me, but I finally got to my three stone weight loss just this month. I've got 5 stone to lose to get to my ideal BMI weight, but because its prescribed from my GPs for the diabetes, and my blood sugars are under control, they won't increase the dose past 7.5mg, so I'll have to work harder to make this dose work for me. I eat as much protein and veg as I can.

tobee · 17/05/2026 16:51

Sorry I didn’t see about the cost.

I’m being lazy and just copy pasted this as I posted it not so long ago in a different thread but it sums up my experience well.

I didn’t increase for about 14 months I just stayed in 2.5mg. I lost more in the earlier months then it slowed a bit. Went through a 6 week plateau where I maintained and then rejigged my diet and started losing again. Moved up to 5mg when I started eating far more than I needed to.
I didn’t like the high suppressive feeling I got at the start so I tried very hard to go low and slow and it had paid off. I am 9 stone lighter and losing around a pound a month which I’m really happy with for the final stone.

added - so I have been on it 18 months or so, and lost really quickly to start with, but I did have a lot to lose. I’m still battling with myself over that extra bar of chocolate or whatever though. Suppressing my appetite do I don’t get hungry or want to eat terrifies me so I just let the MJ take the edge off it now.

Polkadotdash · 17/05/2026 16:54

@cramptramp and @Isobel201 thank you! That is really useful to hear. Makes me feel less of a freak!

Can you swap to a higher equivalent dose of Wegovy?

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 17/05/2026 16:57

@Polkadotdashhave you considered coming off it for a month or two then starting over at 2.5 to see if a break almost reboots your body?
That said you are saying your suppression is still high currently and you are sticking to 1300 calories which is a reasonable amount, are you drinking enough water and exercising?

I am 4.5st down in ten months and finding the final 21lbs slow. I gain on occasion but no more than a pound and have had occasional weeks staying the same weight. I am on 1300 calories, 2.5L of water minimum and exercise 4 to 5 times a week, assume I am shorter than you as I need to get down to around 10st for a healthy bmi.

Around 15mths in all but lost over a st before

I was really fat. 17.4 to 10.4. Size 22+ squeezed into 18/20 and obv stretched them and now a 12/10

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/05/2026 17:19

Yes I had sometimes 3w of sts then a whoosh. The weeks I didn’t drink enough I noticed. Really important to drink water /squash x 2litres a day +

EnduringEthel · 17/05/2026 17:27

15% of people who take MJ are reported not to respond to it very well, as in it doesn’t help them to lose weight 😔. Do you think that there could be a chance that you lost weight because you dieted really successfully for the period of time you lost?

MeridaBrave · 17/05/2026 17:36

I think track every calorie for the next 2-3 weeks to see what you are eating. It’s likely that as your weight dropped your TDEE dropped also. I’d look at eating 1,400 a day, at least 100g protein.

Pyjamatimenow · 17/05/2026 20:11

The pharmacist at ousk told me to try my arm rather than my thigh. I was sceptical but the appetite suppression is strong ( I’ve not felt it this strong for months on 15mg) , I haven’t managed anything to eat all day today ( not great I know). Try a different injection site

BreakingBroken · 17/05/2026 20:32

@Pyjamatimenow maybe the different injection site has to do with better blood supply/circulation? i suspect adipose tissue might not have the best.
@Polkadotdash Nutricheck and Cronometer are much more accurate than MFP should that be the site you're using.
