Injection site choice

Hi all

Do you have a preferred injection site and why??

I’ve seen a lot of people talking about their preferred injection site, e.g. more suppression in the tummy, more consistent supression in the thighs, more side effects in the arm etc etc.

Ive done each thigh so far (only in week 2) but I’m really curious on peoples views. I’m tempted to stick to the thighs because I’ve not had too many side effects and I’m scared based on what others have said about worse side effects in different sites! Help me decide!

I’ve always just done stomach, it’s easiest for me to administer. Even without much ‘wobbly fat’ anymore there’s still enough for me to inject into.
Arm looked faffy and my thighs probably have more fat on them now than my stomach but I prefer to do it lying down and I can see what I’m doing on my stomach.
Never tried anywhere else.
suppression has been stronger and weaker at various points but I put that down to more hormonal fluctuations now that I’m used to the medication rather than the site itself.

Why longer needles? Just curious.

The jab is meant to be subcutaneous.

SilenceInside · 13/05/2026 11:22

@Rosetime 6 and 8mm needles are still subcutaneous. I personally haven’t noticed a difference between 4, 6 or 8mm but I guess some people might.

I’ve been on Mounjaro for over a year and used various sites.

I’ve had very little effect when using my stomach.
my arm had the best effect but is awkward, so I usually use my thighs but find they bruise (I do bruise easily on my legs!) so I tend to switch to arms when I’m on the run up to wearing a swimming costume for example so the bruising isn’t obviously

There have been studies about peptide injection sites that showed injection site-dependent absoption - abdomen tended to absorb somewhat faster than the thigh. Considering GLP-1s are long-acting, the differences are not major and overall absorption will be similar, but indeed you may feel a difference.

Yeah, i use the 4mm and 6mm. Haven't noticed any difference. Don't think the 8mm would be much different to the 6mm.
But someone mentioned a 12mm.
Just curious why the need for longer needles. If 4mm is good enough and is thinner (32g), why the longer needles? What makes them less painful?

SilenceInside · 13/05/2026 12:08

I don't think I'd want to use a 12mm needle, I think that would trigger my latent needle phobia!

As far as I can tell, the differences people discuss wrt to needle length isn't about pain, but about site reactions and/or absorption of the medication.

I jabbed an inner thigh this week for a change. Could be imagining things, but suppression is definitely higher than when I usually jab in my stomach.
