General anaesthetic

I have a small op next Tuesday the 12th. Pre op told me that I could take my 2.5mg on the 4th as normal and then nothing on the 11th. Fasting from 02.30am the morning of the op. I intend on fasting much earlier then that - as I won’t be eating in the night. I have since been silly and read a few posts on other forums that suggest two weeks of a break is the norm. I kind of wish I’d done that now. Has anyone else had a ga recently?

I was told to stop taking it in January (last jab 23rd) for surgery on 10 February. Maybe try eating a very light diet, no red meat, for example? Wishing you well for your surgery.

I was heavily sedated a couple of weeks ago for a small op on my back. Was told to stop MJ for 1 week prior and all was fine.

I was on 10mg and had a GA for a four hour operation. I was told to stay on it as normal.

The anaesthetist just said they’d treat me like any non fasting patient.

All was fine.

Thank you - I will obviously speak to them again the morning of the procedure but good to know it seems common advice

It’s mainly to avoid aspiration risk as your stomach emptying is slower on many of the WL medications. Just be honest with them regardless as they may decide to use a different airway for the procedure to reduce risks.

I had 2 different surgeries under GA while on MJ and the advice was just to extend the fasting time a bit due to delayed gastric emptying. Was not asked to stop the drug.

I was given a spinal for my procedure in stead of general anaesthetic because I hadn’t been advised to stop montjaro before.

A few weeks ago, my anaesthetist advised me to take the dose as normal and fast from 6pm the night before (so longer than normal fasting window for a GA).

Actually I decided to skip a dose anyway (so it was 12 days between taking MJ and having the op) as I didn’t want to take a risk. I then did the next dose as normal a couple of days later.

Hope your op goes well!

I had a GA in March and was told to stop WLI 2 weeks before and the usual fast before (I forget how long the fast was)

14 days is the optimal time to minimise complications

Thanks all. So it’s on Tuesday and I’ve followed the guidelines of 1 week that they told me in the pre op call. I’ll tell them again the morning off - and fast for longer the day before.
