Do pharmacies inform the GP of every prescription, or just the initial one?

As the title says really. I’ve bought from several chasing offers, and wondered if the pharmacies inform the GP every time?

Hence, meaning I cannot buy from more than one pharmacy at once or have any as ‘back up.’

I've used 3 pharmacies and when I look on my NHS app I can see that only one has informed my GP.

Letsnotargue · 07/05/2026 19:54

There is nothing on my NHS app at all, so I don’t think my pharmacies have bothered. Either that or the GP is swamped under hundreds of mounjaro letters.

igivein · 07/05/2026 19:56

I use Medexpress, and every prescription is logged on my nhs app.

TheBrickCritic · 07/05/2026 19:58

Bolt and med express every time.
Lotus had1 prescription and its not on my NHS app.

SilenceInside · 07/05/2026 20:05

It’s been patchy depending on the pharmacy. Some have done it for each prescription, others haven’t done it at all despite asking for my GP details.

MadisonMontgomery · 07/05/2026 20:08

The GP should be informed every time, the surgery I work at logs it on your prescription list every time as a private prescription. I know MedExpress definitely write to us every time as we seem to get thousands of letters from them, but I’m not sure about other pharmacies - Boots do, but I can’t think of any others off the top of my head.

woowu · 07/05/2026 20:14

Your GP being informed won’t affect you being able to order from more then one place at once, why would it?

SilenceInside · 07/05/2026 20:22

Looking at my NHS app, Asda and Zava did each time (Zava fulfill for Asda so essentially the same org), and Pharmacy2U did too. WePrescribe, Lloyds and Swift haven’t sent anything at all.

But the letters are just uploaded to my notes, I don’t think anyone is cross checking anything. I mean, maybe if you ordered from 10 pharmacies all at once someone might notice? But an overlap here or there is not going to be an issue at all.

GreenLemonade · 07/05/2026 20:39

There's nothing on my nhs app. Either Bolt didn't send anything or, more likely, the GP surgery didn't bother to upload it. All communication from private healthcare providers tends to go into a black hole at my surgery.

TheChosenTwo · 07/05/2026 20:42

I’ve got 2 on my nhs record - been on it for a year and a half. First one is on there and the one from last month!

MoneyJo · 07/05/2026 22:10

Interesting. Asda and IQ didn't contact, Medexpress did.

TipsyLaird · 07/05/2026 22:31

In Scotland there is no app. I have no idea whether my gp was informed.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 07/05/2026 22:52

Looking at my medical records they write to my GP every month.

pelagra · 08/05/2026 10:39

Pharmacy Planet didn't inform the GP at all.

Medicine Marketplace sent me a letter to forward to my GP, but didn't tell them directly

Willowy2 · 08/05/2026 12:23

I've been on MJ nearly 2 years and have used 2 suppliers. First supplier sent a letter after 3 months, second supplier sent one letter over the course of a year.

GiveMeWordGames · 08/05/2026 12:28

I've got mine from the same local pharmacy throughout, and the only thing logged on my NHS app is the very first pen over a year ago.

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 08/05/2026 17:27

Med express notified my 1st and 2nd pen but not after that then after the 3rd I went to Lotus and Bolt and then have both never notified my gp.

Steelworks · 08/05/2026 21:17

Are you talking about the weight loss injections or ordinary NHS prescriptions from online pharmacies?

For NHS prescriptions, you order from the online pharmacy, and then the pharmacy sends it to your gp surgery to be issued and authorised by the gp, before being returned to the online pharmacy to be dispensed. ,
