Mounjaro for maintenance only?

Hello,

I have been taking Mounjaro or Wegovy (currently Mounjaro) since December 2022. I have recently arrived at my ideal weight (BMI 23) and am now moving to maintenance. I am on 15mg.

Unfortunately, my prescriber has spotted that I had a gallstone diagnosed last year (I have lost over 10 stone, so it was almost inevitable I would get one) and has simply refused to prescribe me any more. They say I should use the NHS! I have had no further symptoms from my gallstone, but am very aware that taking weight loss injections increases the risk in relation to them.

I am really worried. When I stopped taking the medication suddenly before, the weight piled on. I am aware of the gallstone risk and willing to take it. I doubt I will find another prescriber to assist with maintenance only, particularly when my BMI is in the normal range and another prescriber has already declined to give me the medication.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Which prescriber has refused you? If it's not one of the GP-led ones, such as Pharmulous, Swift Dr, or Oushk, you could give them a try.

Nulife are also very Maintenance and individual focused. monj.co.uk also lists a number of other maintenance friendly pharmacies. Alternatively, an in-person pharmacy on the street could be worth a try.

Thank you - it is my-bmi, I don't think they are GP led.I will give those other options you mention a go!

Lotus might be able to help, they seem very popular for maintenance plans/people who’ve been on it for a while. And they prescribe for lower bmi’s if you are a current MJ user. I’m very happy with their customer service and pricing is reasonable. I have a £25 new customer referral discount so let me know if you would like me to pm you.

I would make an appointment with Swift. It’s GP led and good for lower BMIs and maintenance. I mobed witn a BMI of 25 and currently 23 (goal weight as I have a lot of muscle) and they are happy to keep on prescribing. I can’t see that your BMI will be an issue when you have loads 10 stone. I explained to them that I have gained and lost the same 2 stone annually forever.

They won’t take on new clients at BMI 23 (at least that’s what they told me). Unless they changed their policy.
