Anyone on Wegovy while taking levothyroxine for an underactive thyroid?

I have had an underactive thyroid for years, have been medicated for about 12 years. On a stable dose of 125 mg a day (or is it micrograms, never know).

I weigh around 80kg and am 165 cm tall - I need to lose about 10kg. I also have high cholesterol which is all linked in with the underactive thyroid. Is there anyone else on Wegovy who is also on levothyroxine? I have read that it is not contraindicated, just that you should have your levels checked within 8 weeks.

Want to start but have been hesitating over the buy button...

Not Wegovy but I am on Mounjaro and Levothyroxine 75 mcg daily. The pharmacies all prescribe without issue and usually say something along the lines of make sure you get your levels checked after starting, which I did.

Ok that's reassuring. I know it's hard to say, but do you feel it is working worse/the same/better because of the thyroid issues?

I’m also on MJ and medicated between 75 - 100 Levo. It worked fine, good suppression, limited side-effects and 5 st weight loss. The biggest challenge is getting in enough protein and fruit and vegetables when you don’t feel very hungry. Just have your levels checked regularly to see if a big loss changes your Levo dosage

Thank you. I really want to be 65kg to 70kg. I would be happy as a 12-14, I am not interested in being a size 6 to 8 which I haven't been since I was 15. See the logic that if I weigh less, I may need less medication.

Now to press buy on the website and get started.

When I started losing weight I weighed 160kg and had been on 300 mcg of levothyroxine since 1986.

4 years later, and having lost 94kg I only need 200mcg/day.

So you may want to ask your GP to run thyroid tests after you've lost a lot of weight, just in case you no longer need the same dose that you needed when you were heavier.

Gosh @Gardengargoyle that is a hugely impressive weight loss. I take the point on board about getting retested, the GP usually calls me every 6 months or so anyway. I am starting at 80kg and aiming for between 65 and 70.

Sorry, I didn't see your response earlier. If our thyroxine levels are properly corrected with Levothyroxine it shouldn't make any difference to how the weightloss injections work as we're "normal" with it - I think! I'm pretty sure it hasn't affected my journey.

I take 125mg after thyroid removed, same height and 85kg starting weight. I’ve had no issues I’ve not lost nearly as much as others but slowly losing and down to 80kg after 12 wks. I’ve not increased dosage as much as others one due to cost and not prepared to feel ill and weak if I go too high. Good luck

On MJ and 100mcg thyroxine. All seems to be ok.
