Hi,

has anyone taken a double dose of 2.5 mounjaro and had any major side effects?

Context?

I had too many 2.5mg pens so took double doses for w while to use them up before buying 5mg but I had been on that 2.5mg dose for a year. You can’t just start with a double dose.

Obviously people take 5mg as the next dose up from 2.5mg, but usually that’s after 4 weeks on the 2.5mg dose to get accustomed to it.

Thanks it’s wasn’t on purpose, I thought my first dose didn’t go in properly as the grey plunger didn’t go back to the bottom. Hopefully no major side effects

Oof. You might find you get some gastric effects jumping straight in at 5mg, so nausea, D&V and of course you may find that you have very little interest in food.

Eat as clean as possible and drink plenty water, nothing too fatty or spicy and hope for the best!

How was your first week? Did you get much appetite suppression on the first 2.5mg dose?

eating my meals but don’t feel as hungry in between, had a bit of diarrhoea a few days in but nothing else.

What do you mean the grey plunger didn't go back to the bottom? Confused!

I think @Jbradley81 was expecting the grey plunger inside the glass vial to go all the way to the red seal end of the pen, in a similar way to a single use syringe where you'd press until the plunger was all the way to the end.

I think the patient information leaflet could be improved by showing diagrams or pictures of what the pen will look like after each dose, to avoid any confusion around how it works.

Watch some YouTube videos and follow the steps in the injections every time. You might have some stomach upset just try to eat clean and little and often. Pepto bismol can help settle your stomach and ginger lozenges are helpful for nausea if needed.

If you’re worried about it not going in properly, mark the pen where the plunger is with a sharpie before use, then you can see that it’s been used afterwards as the plunger will be a bit further along the tube. I did that with my first pen as I wasn’t confident about the jabbing procedure either.

Rest. Drink lots of water and eat simply. Definitely nothing fatty and ideally simple salads and plain veg with protein to limit the chances of an upset stomach.

Try not to worry. I recommend leaving it 9 or10 days before your next 2.5mg jab as the medicine builds up in your system.

Im sure you will be ok though, maybe strong supression and a bit quesy but good.

Op what do you mean, did you put the needle in and then press the top back to zero ? You primed the needle?

If you have done a 5mg dose essentially I would wait 10 days or so before your next jab as it builds in your system. The 2.5 is to get your body used to it.
