The average weight loss on MJ is 20%, for those that have reached or close to goal has this been true for you?

I have lost 40.8% of my weight, but am a slow loser as this is an average of 1.07 pounds a week over 78 weeks, so not sure where I would fall in this journey as over a longer time but I had weeks (many where I stayed the same, the only month I lost more was the first month where I lost 9 pounds) I had type 2 diabetes (now in remission), high cholesterol, (now normal) and fatty liver, now resolved, my BMI has gone from 34 to 21 at the age of 61 I feel healthy for the first time in my life. I had absolutely no side effects, apart from appetite suppression, and will stay on this for life.

Although Mine is over 78 weeks I lost the majority in the first 12 months and then am sort of going up and down each week as I maintain.

How has this been for you in the terms of percentage and side effects. According to a report those who felt the most nausea lost the most weight, which makes sense but a study carried out by 23andMe showed there was a connection with a gene and greater weight loss, the same gene makes you feel more sick, also makes you lose weight faster.

I consider myself a slow to average loser but I was fighting age related menopausal belly fat that was determined it had found a home for life, I am also quite sedentary since having metal work in one of my legs so, this loss was almost purely diet alone.

I have lost exactly 25% of my body weight, down from 14st to 10st 9lb, started 1st December 2025. I've just this week reached a healthy BMI and would like to loose another few pounds before working out my maintenance dose. I'm losing around a pound a week now.

I'm 60 and intend to stay on mounjaro for life, hopefully going down from my current dose of 5mg soon. I've only ever had very mild side effects and many massive benefits besides the weightloss including IBD symptoms almost disappearing, chronic pain reducing and loads more energy. Financially it's a real stretch for me but I'll give up almost everything before I stop WLI!

GiveMeWordGames · 26/04/2026 13:44

I've lost 35% of my starting weight in just over a year. From 17st 4 in March 2025 to 11st 1lb now. Goal was actually 11st 4 which I hit within the year but I wanted some wiggle room for maintenance.

I'm mid 50s and menopausal and never really had bad side effects. Just mild gastric ones in the early days and when I went up to 5. I never went above 10mg.

KimTheresPeopleThatAreDying · 26/04/2026 13:55

I’ve lost 21%, but I was almost 100kg when I started and want to get down to around 63, so I’ve got a way to go. I’ve been taking it fairly slow (7 months so far) and haven’t gone about 5mg. I’m totally expecting to be on it for life one way or another but I want the loss to be sustainable too.

ButterYellowHair · 26/04/2026 13:56

I lost 30% in 6 months. I was just into the higher BMI category though so 30% was less than for some. I lost 22kg total.

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 26/04/2026 13:57

The thing is, the percentage of your weight that you lose is mostly limited by your starting weight. If you start out with a BMI of 30 you will naturally lose a smaller percentage of your starting weight than if you start with a BMI of 50. So it's not really something that you can compare. I've lost 32% of my starting weight but still have a BMI of 34, I could well end up losing around 50% of my starting weight, but someone who started at 12 stone will clearly never do that.

Clockinginat2pm · 26/04/2026 13:58

Yes, I have lost around 18% in 9 months.
Horrendous side effects, nausea being number 1.
BUT my goodness, I have put the work in along side the jabs.

Tracking macros and calories, everything I eat is nutritionally driven, portion sizes and mindful eating.
Zero alcohol, 3 litres of water a day, decaf restricted coffee cups a day.
It has, without a doubt, changed my life.

I feel better than I have for around 20 years health wise. Not just weight loss but every aspect of my physical well-being.

Couldnt give a fiddlers fart about what I look like, couldn’t give a toss, but I am enjoying feeling comfortable in my clothes and being able to walk at pace without being breathless. Looking forward to seeing the impact on my bloods when I go for my over 50’s health check at my GPs in a couple of months.
Aiming to stay on for as long as I can afford it.

Oysterblue · 26/04/2026 14:04

This has prompted me to do the calculation and I’ve lost almost exactly 20% - down from 13st to 10 stone 6. I’ve had few side effects, other than fatigue the day after the jab during the first few months. I’m a slow loser - probably a pound a month. My belly fat, a dogged lodger, still hanging around in reduced form but I’ve made my peace with it, given all the other benefits of Mounjaro. Still can’t believe I’m a size 12 on top, 13 on bottom. Sometimes seems surreal. Have stayed on 5mg throughout.

SilenceInside · 26/04/2026 14:07

Basically what @RenegadeKeeblerElf has said. I started off with a BMI of 50 and have lost a little bit more than 50% of my starting weight, a bit over 70kg. Someone with a starting BMI of low thirties wouldn’t want or need to lose 50% of their body weight.

FWIW, I never had any nausea. I lost weight rapidly in the first few months, due to getting the full effects from day 1 in combination with a very high starting weight. The rate of loss has naturally and gradually slowed down over the 21 months or so I’ve been taking Mounjaro.

scoopsahoooy · 26/04/2026 14:10

I'm down 29% of my starting weight - started at 16st13, took me 9 months. To get to my proper BMI range I'd still need to lose another stone and a half but honestly I've settled where I am and I'm happy off it now (been off it a year, no regain).

QueenOfHiraeth · 26/04/2026 14:14

I have lost 35%. Been on it almost 2 years but not lost anything in last 6 months of that so am starting to reduce dose.
I didn't really have a goal, just wanted to get into healthy BMI category but I am still just above that (26-27) and have had to concede that, at the age of 66, my body does not want to go there.

blueberrymatcha · 26/04/2026 14:15

Following with interest as 20% of starting weight is exactly what I’m trying to lose!

I’m 11 weeks in and have been losing at a rate of just under 1kg a week. I’ve lost 14% of my start weight so far and my BMI is currently 22.7. Following my track record I should in theory lose 20% of my starting weight after 6 months of being on MJ (2.5mg for 2 months, 5mg for 2 months, 7.5mg for 2 months). Not sure how I’ll maintain once I reach my goal weight, I may try to titrate down and have to stay on MJ for life.

HouseOfGoldandBones · 26/04/2026 14:18

I'm the same as you OP, 41%. It took me around 9 months & I've maintained for 2 years (dropped down to 1.7mg every 10 days)
No side effects. My hair thinned, but is now back to the usual thickness.

IsThisLifeNow · 26/04/2026 14:23

Almost 50% of my body weight, I was 156kg, now 80kg. Gone from a size 26 to a 14, its changed my life and I'll probably stop at half way, I worry about my face looking too scrawny!

SilenceInside · 26/04/2026 14:25

I'm not sure it's the same gene that's responsible for the nausea as the ones that are linked to slightly higher weight loss. The Guardian article has a summary of the findings:

https://www.theguardian.com/science/2026/apr/08/dna-could-help-explain-why-weight-loss-jabs-may-not-work

The relevant part is "They found that the GLP1 receptor variant rs10305420 was associated with slightly more weight loss in those carrying this variant compared with those who lacked it. Another variant, rs1800437, was associated with nausea and vomiting in people taking tirzepatide but was not associated with how much weight they lost."

The difference in weight lost was really small, only 0.76kg difference. The biggest indicator of how much weight you will lose is still sex and ethnicity, with women and those of European descent tending to lose the most weight.

JabbaJibba · 26/04/2026 14:27

I've currently lost 32.1% having lost 98lb since March 2025. My target is 36.7% which will still be classed as overweight. I won't actively be trying to lose weight after target and will increase calories a bit but if I then lost a little more, I'll be happy with that as currently losing about 1.5 to 2lb a week and may still be in a calorie defecit even after a calorie increase. Currently on 5mg

JustPickleRick · 26/04/2026 14:31

I've lost 32% since September 2025 :)
12 st 9 down to 8 st 8!
Happiest and most confident i've felt in years, glad I did it.
I'm going back down the doses now to maintain.

Backawayfromthesausage · 26/04/2026 16:07

I’m 15 and a half stone down to 9 stone. I think that’s just over 40 percent, maintaining for about 14 months now.

InfoSecInTheCity · 26/04/2026 16:19

I lost 50% of my bodyweight, have been maintaining within a 7lb+/- for just under a year. Was put on MJ due to out of control T2 diabetes that insulin and metformin couldn’t get in control and now in remission. All my other stats have vastly improved too.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 26/04/2026 16:20

I lost 55.3% in a year and have maintained for just over 4 months so far

Hi @Oysterblue my journey is so similar to yours. Definitely also what would be classed as a slow loser. I am 24 months in and have lost 36lb which is 18% down from 13 stone 4 to 10 stone 12. So an average of 1.5lb per month. Like you the belly fat still hangs around - I’m a 12 on top and a 13-14 on bottom but only round the waist - when I buy trousers that are comfortable in the waist the hips are just too big. For that reason only, i’d love to try to get another 10 or 12 lb off to get to 10 stone but it likely wouldn’t reduce from the belly! Instead maybe I need to search harder to find trousers that fit!

SalmonOnFinnCrisp · 26/04/2026 16:23

I've lost 30/35% I've plateaued for last 12m but I had serious health issues and multiple surgeries / stresses.

I'm still overweight by 1 - 2 stones but it's a significant improvement i was (105kg to start)

FormerFatty · 26/04/2026 16:24

I started at 188 pounds and I’m now 136. (I stopped MJ some time ago). So about 27% for me.

Kaggi9 · 26/04/2026 16:24

I’ve lost 45% of my body weight. I was 17st2 when I started, and am 9st4 now. I was on MJ for the first I months then moved to Wegovy. I lost most of my weight in the first 10 months, but have lost a little since and am maintaining at just under 9.5stone.

crawlingovertheline · 26/04/2026 16:28

Gosh your stories are so inspiring. Excuse my ignorance here, but is it just the lack of eating /calories that causes the weight loss?

Towanda12 · 26/04/2026 16:29

Hi QoH, read up about 'smart bmi'...once we hit 60s...it's better to have a little bit of extra in the tank..contributes towards dodging osteoporosis as well as providing a safer place from which to start treatment for any cancers etc. So it's not all bad being bmi 26/27...
