The average weight loss on MJ is 20%, for those that have reached or close to goal has this been true for you?

I have lost 40.8% of my weight, but am a slow loser as this is an average of 1.07 pounds a week over 78 weeks, so not sure where I would fall in this journey as over a longer time but I had weeks (many where I stayed the same, the only month I lost more was the first month where I lost 9 pounds) I had type 2 diabetes (now in remission), high cholesterol, (now normal) and fatty liver, now resolved, my BMI has gone from 34 to 21 at the age of 61 I feel healthy for the first time in my life. I had absolutely no side effects, apart from appetite suppression, and will stay on this for life.

Although Mine is over 78 weeks I lost the majority in the first 12 months and then am sort of going up and down each week as I maintain.

How has this been for you in the terms of percentage and side effects. According to a report those who felt the most nausea lost the most weight, which makes sense but a study carried out by 23andMe showed there was a connection with a gene and greater weight loss, the same gene makes you feel more sick, also makes you lose weight faster.

I consider myself a slow to average loser but I was fighting age related menopausal belly fat that was determined it had found a home for life, I am also quite sedentary since having metal work in one of my legs so, this loss was almost purely diet alone.

I'm not sure it's the same gene that's responsible for the nausea as the ones that are linked to slightly higher weight loss. The Guardian article has a summary of the findings:

https://www.theguardian.com/science/2026/apr/08/dna-could-help-explain-why-weight-loss-jabs-may-not-work

The relevant part is "They found that the GLP1 receptor variant rs10305420 was associated with slightly more weight loss in those carrying this variant compared with those who lacked it. Another variant, rs1800437, was associated with nausea and vomiting in people taking tirzepatide but was not associated with how much weight they lost."

The difference in weight lost was really small, only 0.76kg difference. The biggest indicator of how much weight you will lose is still sex and ethnicity, with women and those of European descent tending to lose the most weight.

I didn’t get any nausea and lost 30% still. I am a European heritage woman though.

I’m about 25% of bodyweight after a year. Aside from the first few months it’s mostly been 1lb a week and some weeks are up some down.

Gosh your stories are so inspiring. Excuse my ignorance here, but is it just the lack of eating /calories that causes the weight loss?

It’s mostly that yes. It’s a calorie deficit made easier by the drug which essentially mimics feeling full /satiated so the brain demands less calories so you eat less. Theres also some regulation of blood sugar that has a similar effect and some reduction in inflammation.

Twasasurprise · 26/04/2026 16:40

45% lost in a year, from BMI 38 to 21.

Willowy2 · 26/04/2026 18:55

I've lost 36.6% in under a year which was a 5 and half stone loss. I'm maintaining now. BMI 30 to 20.

Crunchymum · 26/04/2026 19:03

45% and I've just reached the one year mark.

susiedaisy1912 · 26/04/2026 19:03

2 years on MJ and I’ve lost 35% of my body weight. Most of it in the first 18 months.

Taxiparent · 26/04/2026 19:04

I have lost 41% of my weight over 60 weeks. That included a gain over a holiday and since then (6 months) I have gone down doses (came off for 1 month completely) gained 7lbs and now I’m back at my lowest. I haven’t had any sickness, the odd occasion where I have felt a wave of nausea for a moment, but that usually signals that I need to drink and then it goes immediately.

MeridaBrave · 26/04/2026 19:10

I started at 72kg and got to 58kg. So that’s 19%. But that took me to a weight that wasn’t really sustainable.

Fishingboatbobbingnight · 26/04/2026 19:16

I went from 95kg to 61kg so 35.8 % from April 24 to Jan 25. Titrated down from 15mg to 5mg between Jan and June 25 and maintain +/- 2kg on 5mg since then ..
BP now healthy no more meds
cholesterol in healthy zone no more statins
sleep apnea resolved no more awful CPAP machine.
inflammation markers all gone.

it is indeed miraculous. I have no intention of stopping. For me this is a health priority . I am 61 and have never been fitter since I was in my 20s .

I take Mounjaro.

worldsgonemadnow · 28/04/2026 19:41

Ive lost 31% of my original weight so far, since July 2025. I have a couple of lbs to target but may try and aim for a couple below my target just to have a buffer.

worldsgonemadnow · 28/04/2026 19:43

Sorry should have said, currently on 7.5 (18 weeks) .No real side effects ro speak of. A bit of constipation but was easily remedied. My target only just takes me to BMI 24.9 and won't go below 24 I think, fir the reasons you've stated. I'm mid 50s

Whatalunatic · 28/04/2026 19:57

Started August 1st. Down from 19 1/2 to 16 1/2. About 15% so hopefully 20% by the time the year is up

JBJ · 28/04/2026 20:26

About 35% so far and another couple of stones to go.

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 28/04/2026 21:23

About 30% in 6 months - now maintaining…

Binus · 28/04/2026 21:32

Around that, having gone from about 31 to 24 something. I use MJ and no real side effects. Its been a dream really, I've been lucky.

Zempy · 28/04/2026 21:35

I lost over 40% of my body weight in 9 months.

I have had very few side effects.

daffodilandtulip · 04/05/2026 23:08

I lost 44.9%, going from 13st 7lbs to 7st 6lbs. I only really had side effects when I’d eaten crappy food or when the dose was too high after I’d lost so much weight. Maintained for almost a year now. No plans to come off it anytime soon.

ForPinkCrab · 05/05/2026 08:05

I started on 16st 7 and am now hovering around 13st 2, which is a 20% weight loss I’ve been on MJ for 18 months with a 3 months break when I had a knee replacement and put on half a stone. I really need to lose another stone , I’ve been on 15mg for the last 3 months but it’s very slow going .

Gardengargoyle · 05/05/2026 15:09

I've been tracking weight loss since March 2022, started Mounjaro in summer 2024. Starting weight 160kg, current weight 66kg.

I asked google to show me what percentage of my body weight I have lost so far and it gave me this handy image (if it shows up).

If I ever get down to my goal weight of 57kg (BMI 22.3) I will have lost 103kg or 64.38% of my initial starting weight.

Over the past 50 years I have achieved large weight losses with Weight Watchers, Slimming World and Lighter Life but have always inexorably regained all the lost weight (with an extra 5 - 10kg on top) within a few years.

I intend staying on Mounjaro for the rest of my life (or until a better drug becomes available). For the first time ever I feel confident of maintaining the new weight without being sabotaged by my wonky metabolism. I have PCOS, metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes and a thyroid gland that has been destroyed by Hashimoto's thyroiditis, so the deck has been stacked against me. GLP-1 injections have absolutely levelled the playing field and I have no worries about maintaining the new weight this time around.

The average weight loss on MJ is 20%, for those that have reached or close to goal has this been true for you?
Woo383040 · 05/05/2026 15:55

I’ve lost 24% in all which includes 3.2 kilo before I started wli. I’ve gone from a BMI of 32.6 to 24.6. I’d ideally like to just squeeze an extra kilo or 2 off. But don’t want to go high on dosage as I suffer from sides. Current dose is 5.5mg which allowed me to shift a kilo or so I gained after titrating down to 4.25 and maintaining until that pesky kilo crept on. I’ll stay on MJ indefinitely if possible, as after a lifetime of trying, succeeding, and then failing at almost every diet in existence, I believe that maintenance is the most crucial part.

Bunnyjo · 05/05/2026 20:23

I have lost 80lbs and over 37% of my starting weight. My BMI now is 24.1 and I'd like to lose another 7-14lbs to be comfortably to be around BMI 21-23.

In terms of dose, I am tapering down now; I'd like to come off WLI fully at some point, but if I need to stay on some sort of dose to maintain the weight loss, then so be it. I have changed as a person - I eat healthily, I don't snack, I haven't drank alcohol in over 8 months, I go to the gym and swim regularly; I am fitter, healthier and feel so much better now than I did last year (and for many years before that too). Honestly, taking WLI has been a complete game changer for me!

perimenopoppet · 05/05/2026 21:29

I lost around 30% in 8 months (bmi 32 to 22) and have been maintaining for 4 months on 2.5mg. Maximum I went up to was 5, briefly, most of it was on 3.75 or 2.5. The trial data seems much lower % loss in a longer time than most people that post on the threads here and Reddit.

Kittkats · 07/05/2026 08:35

25% in 16 weeks, from bmi 30 to 21. Absolutely no side effects either!

Kittkats · 07/05/2026 08:38

Oh, and most of that was at 2.5mg, with 1 month at 5mg. I’ve been maintaining since mid October, titrating off. Currently 1.7mg
