Cold turkey success stories?

Inspired by the other thread around maintenance doses, has anyone essentially gone cold turkey and not had a period of being on a maintenance dose, and if so how did you find it?

I’m looking to stop in a couple of weeks. I’ve lost around 2 stone 5lb so far and I’m not yet at a healthy BMI but I’m happy with where I’ve got to for now and want to stop for various reasons.

I didn’t find that mounjaro massively quietened food noise for me, I’ve definitely had to work hard on it. I track every calorie (something I never did before) and I will keep doing this. I don’t feel like I’ve changed my diet totally but I do have a much better understanding of what I should be eating and portion sizes etc.

Is going cold turkey really likely to backfire? My last dose was 8mg (down from 10), then planning 5 for a couple of weeks then maybe a couple of 2.5 but then I’d be done. Basically really want to try and avoid buying another pen if it’s just for a couple of months of maintenance on a low dose.

I had to go cold turkey due to side effects, was absolutely fine. Food noise came back almost instantly. 13 months later and only put on 3lbs.

My SIL went cold turkey , she had lost loads about 4-5 stone and has very slowly gained about 8-9lbs over a year, shes done amazing.
Another friend lost 2.5 stone and has gained 10lb in 2-3months.
Im on MJ plateauing but going to try and push through to healthy bmi. Im a bit scared if coming off it tbh and will look at gradually decreasing dose and possibly maintenance dose if i can afford it.
Good luck OP, be interesting to read other peoples experiences in here

That’s reassuring! Well done. It’s partly the side effects that I’m looking to come off, and partly cost. I haven’t had food noise completely go away while I’ve been on it, so will be interesting to see the difference again when I’m not on it. For me the food noise is there but I just eat less when it comes to it, that’s the bit I need to stick to I think which will be hard without the suppressant.

I'm into my 19th week of going cold turkey, Ive lost just over a stone in that time.

I went cold turkey after 3.5 stone loss due mainly to the cost so it was never going to be a long term thing for me.
My BMI was 24.8 when I stopped on Feb 15, 2025. I’ve been off for over 14 months now, I still weigh weekly and work out 5 days a week and keep an eye on things.
I initially gained 6lbs within 2 months after stopping but I’ve lost that and many more. My BMI this morning is 23.4.

OP I’m planking similar in about six weeks time. I’m similar, not at goal, but happy where I am. If I lose a bit more, fine, if I don’t I don’t. I’ve had lots of good noise and no appetite suppression generally, so I’m hoping that will help.

I think you have to be ready for a bit of fluctuation over the first few months - while you and your body get accustomed to where you are and what you need to do for maintenance. A lot of people panic and rush back on the jabs, when it probably would get easier after a few weeks. As long as you don’t let your eating habits spiral unhealthily you will not put masses on in the long term.

@Tohaveandtohold @Booksandcheese That’s incredible, well done to both of you! I exercise a lot and I have learnt so much around calorie intake, portion size etc that I’m really hopeful I will be ok without the jabs. Couple more doses to go then I’ll bite the bullet!

@Gingercar Good luck! Keep us updated. I do think it will be easier for those of us who have still had to battle food noise while on MJ.
