What are you doing this week that you couldn’t do before you started using WLI?

As an antidote to the endless barrage of anti-WLI threads on MN, a thread to share how your life has changed since being on WLI (whether you are still losing weight, maintaining or have reached your goal and stopped using them).

Things I’m doing this week that I wouldn’t have been able to do before I lost 5 stone with WLI

  • spend hours working in my garden enjoying the lovely weather without feeling too exhausted to continue
  • being able to squat down in the garden (and then get back up again 😊)
  • looking forward to choosing which of my lovely clothes to wear for a day out and going out enjoying looking nice

Wow I need to make the most of my weight loss and do more! I have only noticed the small changes such as taking up less room in the bath. Feeling more comfortable in smaller seats. You are all inspirational.

GiveMeWordGames · Yesterday 08:05

Mine are very similar to yours OP. Enjoying gardening, squatting or kneeling and not worrying about getting up. Getting joy from buying choosing which clothes to wear again. I've gone from tight 22/20 to a comfy 14.

Like a pp mentioned, double crossing my legs which I haven't been able to do for about 20 years. And walking fast! I was always a fast walker in my teens and 20s but slowed down as my weight went up. Now I'm belting along every day and not a sweaty mess at the end of it.

Doing weights 3-4 times a week and enjoying it and pushing myself.

Maybe not this week, but it's toenail painting season coming up and I'm looking forward to not feeling like I'm crushing my organs to barely reach them.

If you had all lost weight without using the drugs the effect would have been the same though? Don't really understand the point of specifying that it's WLI that's helped you feel this way, it's just WL...

Well, I spent over three decades battling my weight and steadily getting fatter on an endless yoyo diet cycle I couldn't break. Two years on Mounjaro and I have a freedom I have never known all my life. Freedom to wear 'normal' clothes, freedom from shame, freedom to move around and freedom from the fear that the weight will come back on again - as long as I can take this medication (hopefully for life) I don't have to be afraid anymore.

The point is we didn't lose the weight without WLI. They changed my life and it’s ok to talk about it and credit them for doing so. There are other threads for the negative posts elsewhere, why not join one? It’s fine for people who have lost weight without WLI to talk about it, but this one tiny thread is just for those who have used WLI.

Since reaching my target weight at the end of last year I’ve done so many things I could never have done before when I was 13 stone heavier:

kayaking
horse riding
barre classes

As well as the everyday things that still feel like such a novelty - running up and down stairs without holding the bannister/needing to stop to catch my breath, running for a bus, doing parkrun every week, crossing my legs, getting up and down off the floor with no effort at all, buying clothes from any shop I like (having gone from size 24 down to size 8/10), actually liking how I look, having the confidence to try new activities and meet new people, going hiking every few weeks and doing 15 miles of rocky/hilly terrain without issue.

I could go on all day - my life has changed beyond all recognition!

Amazing! So fantastic 😊

Just ignore the plopper everyone. There’s plenty of other threads for arguing. Let’s keep this one for celebrating our all we can do now.

So many lovely accounts. It’s brilliant!

Why come on a lovely positive thread full of people being happy and make a snippy little comment? What was the point?

I am disabled so many of the physical things mentioned by others are always going to be impossible for me but my weight loss means I can look in the mirror.

I had avoided mirrors for years, which was pretty hard considering I have huge built in mirrored wardrobes but I’d perfected automatically looking down at the floor if I was anywhere near them so as not to even catch a glimpse of myself.

Now I can look and feel fine.

The main thing though has being getting on the waiting list for new hips (which won’t cure my disability but will hopefully stop at least some of the chronic pain) because my bmi was previously too high but now I am miles below the limit.

Thank you mounjaro.

I can relate. Just feeling good about how I look (and feel) is so important to me. So nice to not dread seeing myself in a full length mirror.

Good luck with your hips. I hope you don’t have to wait too long.

I love that - not having to apologise for the space I take up.

This week, I did three gym classes back to back. Yesterday I gardened for two hours after work. Today I am planning to go to the gym again.

Yesterday I ate a mini pork pie - but it was instead of dinner as I was no longer hungry later. It is as though I am a thin person!

I've lost 9 and a half stone, so literally everything in my life is different and better now. I'm wearing size 8/10 clothes. I get compliments on my style and clothes and I started my day with a 6.30am reformer Pilates class.

A bit different to when I had to shuffle downstairs one step at a time because my knees were so painful.I am so grateful fo WLI, they saved me from serious illness and a potentially earlier death.

I don’t create a dam in the bath anymore
I can touch my toes
I go to the gym and don’t worry about people staring
Wear a bikini on the beach and don’t worry about people staring
I can say no to stuff that I maybe wouldn’t have done before

maddiemookins16mum · Yesterday 10:30

Buying more size 10 jeans. Doing 25 lengths of the pool at 6.30am. Wearing a short skirt to show off my legs.

HeidiLite · Yesterday 10:56

this week I have bought normal high street bikinis as I am no longer limited to only the industrial strength pricey big cup ones from Bravissimo.

I've always been sporty but while before people would not look at me at the gym, I was an average middle aged chubby woman who was invisible to others, now people are staring, because I'm jacked and look bloody fabulous 😀😂

Don’t you think every person on this thread had tried to lose weight the “traditional” way before using expensive WLI? They are medicine. Do you think people with diabetes should try to manage without their meds, or asthma suffers without an inhaler? It’s the same thing. WLI are treating a chronic disease - obesity.

for me personally:
My biometric age has dropped by about 7 years.
I choose to walk everywhere I can, rather than drive.
Clothes shopping is fun.
I can run 5km, and walk up lots of steps without being completely puffed after a single flight like before. I choose to be active rather than sit on the couch.
I have self-esteem again. I don’t avoid being in photos, or try to hide behind others, or know that I’ll absolutely hate what I see.
My menstrual cycle has normalised.
I don’t snore anymore.

Yes, most of these things are because I’ve lost weight rather than WLI specifically. But I could not have done the first without the second.

Another person with the 6.30 am exercising. So impressive!

I haven’t ventured a short skirt yet but inspired by pp I might dig one out.

Today I went clothes shopping and if things fit but I didn’t like them, I put them back! In the past, if I found anything that fit me I had to buy it. I’ve dropped two clothes sizes since September.

This thread is great, I'm enjoying hearing about everyone's wins. For me:

Cutting my toenails is now easy, no contortion required.

I no longer snore, or wake myself up doing it.

I don't need to wear chub rub shorts under dresses to stop my thighs chafing any more. I only discovered this today, and it's a great feeling.

Still got a couple of stones to go, and I can't wait to see how I feel then.

Oh I’d forgotten about the chub rub. It was so unpleasant and now it’s gone.

Also tights flipping down under my belly.

I’ve been on MJ for nearly a year and this has been a lovely thread to read and to reflect on my own “journey”! I’ve gone from 92kg BMI 30 to around 66kg BMI 21.4, clothes size 14-16 to a 10.

I have been wearing a size small NHS Scotland uniform for months now instead of a large tunic and medium trousers. Literally everytime I get dressed for work I can’t believe a small fits and to be honest I probably could get away with a XS tunic.

Pre MJ I would run a 5k a few times a week but was pretty slow. Now I aim to do a 10k at least once per week and my times for both have improved massively!

I’ve rejoined the gym and for the last 8 months I’ve been doing weights up to 5 times per week. I feel so much stronger than before and don’t feel self conscious about what I wear to the gym or if anyone is looking at me.

My Husband has developed this new habit of picking me up a wee bit off the ground when he hugs me just because he can 🤣

I have more energy than ever before and the extra exercise and gym sessions have just become a habit now! I work shifts so have to be flexible but if I don’t make a planned workout I don’t panic or write it off I just adjust my schedule for the next one.

Im able to wear an heirloom ring that was far too small before I started MJ.

There are probably loads more but I can’t think!!
