Weight loss has decimated my boobs and I can’t get bras to fit!

As the title says, I’ve lost 5.5 stone and gone from a size 16 to a size 8-10. I had some loose skin some of which is slowly tightening but my breasts are hideous! 😔 3 pregnancies and lots of BF plus being 50 and menopausal obviously isn’t helping but they’re literally flat as a proverbial pancake. They were always ‘plump’ even when I was a size 12 (before WLIs) Now, they sit like empty squashed bluebells on my chest having lost virtually all fat and integrity. They’re not just saggy, they’re completely empty and just hang there down my front about 4” in length.

So, my main problem is that I cannot find bras that fit. I have been to 3 different shops to be measured and they genuinely struggled to help me. There is no roundness and all the bras-both underwires and no wires-just don’t sit properly nor offer me support. I must have tried about 30 different styles across 3 different shops. I’ve tried everything from a 34B up through cups to 34DD then tried the same in a 36. B cup doesn’t keep me in and a C cup doesn’t really either but is gaping because there’s literally no fullness to my boobs even when I lift them with my hands. 😢 I’m currently just about managing with my sports bras but even those are iffy on the fit.

Sorry for the essay. Is there anything I can do or any bra style suggestions anyone has? I can’t believe that at 50yrs old, having been married for 25yrs, I’m so concerned about my appearance that I’m contemplating a boob job.

Mime don't bother me at all beyond finding the right bra and them looking decent in clothes which I have now done. They also look great in triangle cup string bikinis as I can just hoist them up into a shape 😅 They are still foldable empty sacks, but they are small, and I work the chest so much in the gym on purpose. For me, I don't feel any less feminine. But you have to do what's right for you.

Willowy2 · 20/04/2026 06:02

I was just noticing actually, the gym must have lifted them as previously I couldn't see an under-boob tattoo I had unless I was wearing a bra. Just getting dressed this morning and noticed I can now see the tattoo before putting a bra on! 🏋‍♀️✨️

aprilshowers2015 · 20/04/2026 06:11

I rate these so highly. Through weight gain and loss, bf two children and small implants 20-odd years I’ve gone from a 38G to a I’ve no idea what because they just kind of pool into any bra I try on. I’m maybe a 34c but normal bras look terrible.
the ads algorithm picked up on despair and I took a £10 punt on one of these then ordered another 2. So so comfy and I actually feel supported again rather that wrinkled and baggy (that’s the rest of me but after 4.5st loss I’m ok with that!)

Sunny Bee was the brand I went for.

I’m in a size 36 back and I am extremely broad wearing a size 18 on top. I would go get remeasured. Even when I was a size 24/26 I was in a 40 or 42 back size. I think you need the back size remeasured and then work out what style of bra and cup suits you best.

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 20/04/2026 08:51

I’m really sorry that you feel disheartened but if every single one of the 30+ bras that you tried on had a 34 or 36” back then this is why they did not sit properly. I am a size 12–14 and a 30J.

Try a Panache Envy full cup in a 30D or DD. Bravissimo and John Lewis stock them.

Mysticmaiden · 20/04/2026 11:55

I think the issue here is the boob or bust calculator eg bravissimo and the other fancy bra shops are different band sizes to the m&s and other high street shops because they add 4cm on to the band size. So im 44 years and at 8st 12lbs 5ft 3 size 10 using boob or bust I'm 30DD and in m&s and primark I'm 34DD, so it can be confusing everyone saying no way you are 34/36 when they are probably shopping where the other brands are different sizes.
I used to be a 38C and 4st 3lbs heavier but found going up 2 cups is actually better for my shape, fit, comfort and support. My breasts smaller but they aren't quite flat but I lost very slowly, like 1lb a week max and I have found in maintenance they are plumping up, as is my bum so try not to rush into surgery and give it some time in maintenance when fat redistribution can happen and see how your body responds.

LooIoo · 20/04/2026 12:18

@Mysticmaiden the point is that M&S is incorrect. You don’t need to add inches on any more.

Willowy2 · 20/04/2026 12:22

I used the boob or bust method previsouly and found the suggested band size completely uncomfortable and restrictive and my boobs STILL didn't fit into cups like well behaved pert little boobs should do. When they are foldable, volumeless and hang they just don't sit in cups properly. I found the solution I proposed further up a perfect one for me. No more wires digging in, proper shape, comfort and support. From Shein no less!

Yes this

Im a 34 band but Im a size 10, any tighter and its hurting me, in fact its a bit snug now, and also what you say about how you sit in the cups with just folded skin, a balconette or plunge padded bra is not the solution!!

This is what I found with all bra fitting services. Don't get me wrong, boobs looks great if I just stood still, arms by my side. But after wearing for a full day, tight band, boobs flopping out the top every time I leaned or bent over (household chores, washing machine, dishwasher, tieing shoes etc!), they were all just useless. For floppy boobs they needs to be origamied into swans and contained 😅

Corknut · 20/04/2026 13:09

I could have written this. I’ve lost nearly 8 stone and by boobs are non existent flaps of skin. I swear by minimiser bras, particularly triumph. If anyone knows where I can get a minimiser bikini top or swimsuit I’d be grateful!

PortSalutPlease · 20/04/2026 13:12

You need a full cup bra with a fairly centrally placed strap, so avoid balcony styles as the straps are usually quite far placed to the outside of the cup.

Pop to bravissimo and ask for advice - the Lacey bra is really good for this.

Oh god this is a painful lesson I have learned over the years about strap position, those straps need to be fairly close to my neck!!!

@BreakingBroken @FlappyFish , really sorry and not point of the thread. With a breast lift and realignment of nipple, is there still feeling in the nipple? Apologies if silly question/too personal.
I am seriously considering 'boob job' once i am at target weight.

Twasasurprise · 20/04/2026 14:20

The traditional measuring method still seems correct for M&S bras. I imagine most of their client base bought bras and knew the measuring system long before Boob or Bust popularised the rejection of the +4 method around 2016 (according to Google).

I just checked. I would be about 32F according to the new method. At M&S 32F are "Max Support" / "Extra Support" bras for a larger bust. My boobs are relatively teeny now (as per this thread). I certainly don't need the extra wide straps and cups for "fuller bust" that M&S size F-J would suggest!

Whereas the non-wired full cup 36C from M&S that I wear for my 31 inch chest, is just right. Fits comfortably, doesn't ride up, sits flat, doesn't need adjusting throughout the day, and I can happily sleep in them.

BreakingBroken · 20/04/2026 15:00

@Rosetime the surgery actually improved sensation in that area. unusual yes. The Dr. said it was due to how extensively my skin had stretched, with a return to normal positioning sensation improved. But at nearing 60 it was never a consideration.

likelysuspect · 20/04/2026 15:03

Theres a lot of talk about measuring

I just go in and see what fits me.

I used to get Rigby and Peller bras, to be honest they were incredibly expensive and I got the same sort of thing elsewhere just by trying things on.

That is correct but it's the way it is in some shops, so if I shop in m&s I have to add inches because I don't want to spend £30+ for one bra and i live nowhere near shops like Bravissimo or similar places which are found in cities. Also everyone is a different body shape, so someone like me who is an apple shape, insulin resistant/previous prediabetic and bloats very easily when a week before period is due, unwell or eats over 100g carbs, needs a more relaxed fit that is more comfortable and regularly expands when needed.

They are incorrect but when making their bras they make them based upon their incorrect measuring system. This means if you measure using boob or bust then buy a bra at M&S it likely won't fit, because a bra that is labelled as a 32 won't measure 32".

I'm a size 12 in M&S clothes but a 32 band bra from M&S will barely reach around my ribs on maximum stretch and loosest clip, even fastening it backwards. My under bust measurement is 29.5". I buy bras from M&S because they are reasonable quality for the price and easy to get hold of, but I know I would be a different size in Panache or Freya.

FlappyFish · 20/04/2026 19:06

@Rosetime I didn’t need a lift. My nipples and entire boobs are much more sensitive since surgery.

I did maintain my weight for a year. I saw a surgeon a lot earlier on (I was still losing at that point as well) and he advised I would need a lift. That really put me off.

However 11 months on a different surgeon said I wouldn’t and that was largely to do with my body adjusting.

for the op - only she will know her boobs. A poster somewhere just said it was like folding an origami swan. It is and no bra was ever going to work for me.

I have my photos of being marked up. When you have gone from a g to a folded b and have zero projection, no bra would have ever made me feel comfortable or given me cleavage. It was nipples at the end of string.

Oh.. my apologies. I thought you had some sort of breast surgery.
