Weight loss has decimated my boobs and I can’t get bras to fit!

BluebellBoobs · 19/04/2026 18:01

As the title says, I’ve lost 5.5 stone and gone from a size 16 to a size 8-10. I had some loose skin some of which is slowly tightening but my breasts are hideous! 😔 3 pregnancies and lots of BF plus being 50 and menopausal obviously isn’t helping but they’re literally flat as a proverbial pancake. They were always ‘plump’ even when I was a size 12 (before WLIs) Now, they sit like empty squashed bluebells on my chest having lost virtually all fat and integrity. They’re not just saggy, they’re completely empty and just hang there down my front about 4” in length.

So, my main problem is that I cannot find bras that fit. I have been to 3 different shops to be measured and they genuinely struggled to help me. There is no roundness and all the bras-both underwires and no wires-just don’t sit properly nor offer me support. I must have tried about 30 different styles across 3 different shops. I’ve tried everything from a 34B up through cups to 34DD then tried the same in a 36. B cup doesn’t keep me in and a C cup doesn’t really either but is gaping because there’s literally no fullness to my boobs even when I lift them with my hands. 😢 I’m currently just about managing with my sports bras but even those are iffy on the fit.

Sorry for the essay. Is there anything I can do or any bra style suggestions anyone has? I can’t believe that at 50yrs old, having been married for 25yrs, I’m so concerned about my appearance that I’m contemplating a boob job.

Honestly? If you’ve lost that much and you have empty sacks, nothing can really be done if you ended up the same shape as me. Balconette didn’t work. I was literally folding skin up.

I had a boob job in November. I now have very pert and lovely 30DD. I don’t even need a bra.

Without wanting to sound flippant, I tried padded. I tried everything. But surgery was the only option after losing 6 stone in my case. It cost 9.5k and was worth every penny. I didn’t feel like a woman. I even considered regaining half the weight.

No not joking at all. I’m older, lost over 9st, gone from 42GG to 32G so a few cups volume wise down and they have gone south. The right balconette style and size, works very well for me as recommended on boob or bust (below). Yes there is crinkling but they give me good support and shape under clothes and I don’t wear low necklines. If your boobs are hanging over the top of the cup you have the wrong size.

True balconettes are cut horizontally just above the bust line. Plunge are low at the central gore. Both styles are better suited to women who are full on the bottom. Full cup styles are cut higher and suit top heavy breasts as they encase the whole breast. Balcony styles have a sweetheart neckline and will suit breasts with even fullness.

Im afraid not, if I get a bigger cup size there is just open cup, with gaping at the top of the cup with the breast just sitting there underneath the top of the cup. There is almost no breast tissue, I went from an G to a C, its just skin.

Easylifeornot · 19/04/2026 19:57

No one is in a size 8 top is measuring at a band size 32 or 34.

TheChosenTwo · 19/04/2026 19:59

To be fair the balconette works fine for me (only style I’ve found that does) but I don’t find myself bending over so nothing is falling out the top. Maybe they’re a little folded
in but I don’t wear anything low (not my style at all) so no need to worry about what they look like - just need them lifted away from my belly button and placed near where they belong and to be contained.
Padded bras won’t work for boobs like mine as all they will do is increase the fold and still leave a load of empty cup/gape at the top.
Never fancied a boob job myself, well I did when younger but now I’ve lost weight I really like having small boobs, they fit nicely in tops and look tidy and in proportion to my body shape and size, and I don’t feel self conscious about them.
glad you’re finally happy with yours though @FlappyFish 🩷 I’m a big believer in doing what makes you happy.

I need full cup now. Balcony style are great until I bend over, then my boobs fall out of them. I'm a similar size with a similar loss. I wear a 36C non-wired supermarket (M&S or Sainsburys) now from 42DD. 5'5", 8st 12.

Please re-measure your back size; I guarantee it is not 36 inches.

I am a full 5 stone heavier than you and I wear a 30 band. I guarantee that 36C is not fitting you properly.

No, it's not. I guess buying old-fashioned, non-wired, M&S full cup bras means they still come in the traditional + 4/5" measurement. I'm old enough to remember that this was the only way to measure before Boob or Bust, and the like.

They fit my 31" inch chest perfectly. I bought 34" in the same style and the band was too tight.

If I was buying elsewhere, I agree that the sizing may well be different.

Full cup, padded, with a bit of pushup.

I only ever wear these as I've got quite a size difference after breast cancer, plus deflation after weight loss. You'd have no idea when I wear one of these bras.

I did when younger. I had a big rib cage.

Hallywally · 19/04/2026 22:00

Have you actually measured under your boobs- it’s that measurement you need. It doesn’t matter about your age/teenage daughters/shoulders/hips etc. You’ve nothing to lose trying on 30/32 band bras.

Did you go up 3-4 cup sizes when you sized the band down?

YeahNoCoolCrap · 19/04/2026 22:04

Not WLI induced but I have similar boobs - like deflated balloons - Triumph Amourette is the best bra I have found. Gives a lovely shape and really comfortable.

EveryDayisFriday · 19/04/2026 22:10

I've gone from 38GG to 32E, lots of lost volume. I'm a big fan of padded crop tops. I have some full cup t shirt bras that are ok, however, I don't need the underwires like I used to so feel better in a bralette/ crop top or vest with bra shelf with some padding to give some shape.

Yes, that’s what I have, nothing but empty sacks and a balcony bra just means folding the skin in.
I have never felt less feminine in my life. 😢 I am seriously considering a boob job but just feel it’s a ridiculous and unnecessary extravagance for a 50yr old. If I was in my 30s or even early 40s, I’d be far less reticent. Maybe I just need to go for it.

Similar weight loss and size and problem OP! Have also considered a boob job but don't really want to at my age (late 40's) - it feels like too much where surely, somewhere out there, is a bra that does the job and is comfortable?!

I spent a fruitless day bra searching this weekend. I have a very narrow gore as well so loads of bras just don't work. I used to wear plunge bras, but my boobs are so saggy now they just slump to the bottom of the cups and spill out of the middle.

I tried boob or bust ages ago and all it did was recommend bras which squeezed so tight around the chest they left red marks and felt awful.

I loathe full cup bras. Material up to my chin, no thanks. And the gore is always really high so floats, or stabs into breast tissue.

No solutions just sympathy!

ChubbyGroundhog · 20/04/2026 01:22

OP, I sympathise with you so much here.

I've gone from size 28 to size 8 (was 6 last summer) and I have resigned myself to the fact that I am going to need a boob job, face lift, tummy tuck, arm whatever its called etc etc because my whole body is like a melted candle.

Measurements don't work, because the tape is measuring excess skin along with my "real" size (whatever that is), scales measure excess skin and clothing sizes are a joke because I have to tuck so much in .. if the skin were removed, I'd be at least 6" smaller around the waist.

I tried the balconette bra based on Rosie Henshaw suggesting it from YouTube, on the basis she lost weight and needed some lift for empty boobs, and it was beyond a joke. I was so disappointed.

I tend to wear wired t-shirt bras or sports bras. The wired t-shirt gives lift but I have to get them pretty tight in the cup and the band or they sink to the bottom and leave just a hollow top. The sports bras give mono boob, which isn't a great look, but a loose top will hide that, for the most part.

Unknown127 · 20/04/2026 02:42

Try balcony style bras! I have the same problem but I’m 26. 2 kids, thyroid problem and weight fluctuating over the last 7 years has left me with empty grapes. These are the best bras for me, especially ones that are rather B shaped

Jellybelly80 · 20/04/2026 02:57

I have the same problem and am seriously considering an uplift. I don’t want implants, Im 68. I just want them raised a bit. I’ve had 5 children and breast fed all of them. The droop isn’t all down to a 5 stone weight loss. Bra wise I’m currently in some from markies that came in a box and another brand I bought that I didn’t know is what Oprah raves about.

Do try the M+S full cup OP, Im exactly the same, empty foldable boobs that wont respond to any of these suggestions here!! As someone saids above my post, they sink to the bottom of most things

But when dressed I look very perky and you wouldnt know

FlappyFish · 20/04/2026 03:41

@BluebellBoobs It isn’t an extravagance. I’m only 7 years younger than you.

I maintained my new weight for a year and went for it. I have very small implants really, but they fit with the life I now have. (295cc)

I am seeing a lot of people having surgery post weight loss on social. I am very grateful that I am not one who has undergone rounds of skin removal.

It isn’t vain or frivolous. I see it as the last investment. I was miserable. I felt just as self-conscious as a size 8 with sacks as I did as a size 16 with G’s.

Thatoneisnice · 20/04/2026 04:13

You are very unlikely to be a band size 34 or 36! If you are a size 8 now
Id go down a band size up a cup size.
Try 32DD. Try deep plunge half cups which scoop you in from the sides but leave the centre mostly open. A triangle shape iyswim . This might help get a bit of volume back into the top and centre of your boobs.
I think its really about trying different styles of bra along with the size. Full cup bras are obviously not going to be for you.
I have similar issues and I go for triangle plunge bras. I buy a DD so its a wide cup that scoops from the side. But the band needs to be small. Im a uk size 10 and I wear a 32 band so I really really doubt you are a 34 at a size 8

ChiaraRimini · 20/04/2026 04:42

Rule of thumb for back size is your dress size+20.
But you will need a much larger cup than you think. Book a fitting at Bravissimo and try some on. You’ve got nothing to lose

marriednotdead · 20/04/2026 04:42

Panache is a great brand for bottom heavy/ weight loss boobs. Clara and Envy would be a good choice to start with. Curvy Kate Boost me up has similar shaping to the Panache Clara but with a little bit of padding/moulding.
The bra shouldn’t be painfully tight but the band does need to sit firmly enough otherwise the breast tissue will just slip out of the bottom of the cup.
Although it might seem like you’re a tiny size, even the loose skin takes up space so be prepared to be a bigger cup size than you would expect.
if you can get a fitting in Bravissimo it would help you figure out what works, they stock the Panache styles mentioned.

Rigby and Peller sorted me out. Nice lady tried 10s of bras on me until she’d got a couple that worked. She said she’s seeing lots of women who’ve lost loads of weight so she’s getting the, err, hang of it.

Was going to say the same.

If you are in or can get to London go to Rigby & Peller.

(They were the place the late Queen got her bras)

Transformed my bust after a lifetime of never wearing the right size or style.

They don’t measure at all, they go by very experienced and knowledgable eye.
