retatrutide new weight loss drug

ElephantGrey101 · 19/04/2026 08:16

Most of my family are on GLPs. A couple of them are on a new drug called retatrutide. This is meant to be a better version of things like Monjouro and has fewer side effects and you retain more of your muscle etc.

However, it doesn’t seem to be available officially anywhere as it is still in clinical trials. They are buying it from someone at the gym.

Does anyone have any experience of this drug?

Yes I'm on it. Seems much the same as wegovy was for me. Maybe slightly better

SilenceInside · 19/04/2026 08:44

It’s not legally available in the UK yet. What people are buying could be literally anything and is completely unregulated. A recent investigation by ITN found that black market “Mounjaro” pens were in fact semaglutide at a massively higher dose than is safe. Previously similar fake pens were found to be insulin, which is very dangerous. People have died from taking these fake medications. Your family members are taking a stupid risk.

Did you get it as part of a clinical trial or did you buy it yourself?

Selling retatrutide is illegal and people could (and should) get arrested. The medicine is still under clinical trials and you just wonder what there is in those vials considering only the manufacturer has the active ingredients (it would not surprise me there is a normal semaglutide or tirzapetide or even a mix).
as a patient, I would never ever use or buy anything from a gym.

Velvetandleather · 19/04/2026 13:45

Literally all the deaths globally have been though the black market wmd incorrect usage of the drugs, not one death due to real product used correctly.

of course you can take a risk and inject something you buy from some dodgy non registered supplier. And of course it will be ok. Until it isn’t. It just takes one dodgy injection and you will never know which one that will be. And you either have a life time of disability or death.

i can’t believe people are so desperate to be slim they risk this. But they do. And they are paying the price.

WeAllHaveWings · 19/04/2026 14:11

That is the theory with the additional glucagon element, but has it been proven yet in the clinical trials? The results will be interesting when they come out.

Whatever the results of the trials your family members are recklessly injecting an unknown, unregulated, chemical into their bodies and risking their health.

JulietteHasAGun · 19/04/2026 14:16

It should be available early 27 so if you wait till then you should be able to buy it legally which would be safer.

SJGFlingo · 19/04/2026 14:27

NC for this.

I have taken Retatrutide and it was fine.

However, I have a raging eating disorder - currently underweight, and I am as mad as a box of frogs when it comes to my weight and body image. I am otherwise functioning, everyone just thinks I’m terribly skinny. Only my GP, other health care professionals and DH understand the full extent.

I’m trying to behave myself as I have a young daughter and I’m trying to get a grip of myself as I do not want to model unhealthy behaviours for her.

Please don’t inject yourself with dodgy things. You’ll be fine until you aren’t.

NC for this. I've been taking it since mid-January and lost 12kg with fairly little effort. There are risks around being scammed, quality, customs seizures, not knowing what you're really getting etc, but the trade-offs seemed worth it for me.

This seems mad. Is it really cheap or something? Mounjaro works and it's safe and legal. Unless you're taking it black market because you're not actually overweight? In which case it's just drug abuse in the service of an eating disorder.

Not disputing this as this may be correct but wasnt there a nurse who sadly died, I thought she bought it from the correct source, but I could be wrong

It's about £5 a month at the dose I've been taking. I guess that's a lot cheaper than the officially licensed products. I wouldn't have been eligible for a Mounjaro prescription I don't think and unsure how much that would cost. I've been open with my Dr about what I'm doing and had blood tests - latest results were very good for my age and he told me to come back next year.

RoseField1 · 21/04/2026 08:45

Well I can see why you'd be tempted for £5 but how on earth can a black market compound dealer make any money selling you effective product at £5 per month? That would make me extremely sus.

this poor lady didn’t die due to mounjaro, she was very ill before it.

The opposite actually a fiver a month would have me running for the hills and hiding out. You’re almost guaranteed to be injecting yourself with some real dodgy shit;

Or just carrier liquid without any active ingredient in it!

There’s pharmacies on TikTok selling this stuff, very worrying that this stuff can be sold by anyone it seems.

Breaking the law and risking your life by injecting illegal and unknown drugs is a worthwhile risk in order to possibly lose weight???

Being scammed ie losing money is the least of your worries.

Are you completely mad?

mantez · 21/04/2026 09:03

It will soon become very fashionable not to take them, and unfashionable to be skinny with hanging skin and muscle wastage.

Before semaglutides, being skinny was good, fat (even a little bit) was bad. Now if you are looking skinny weight wise, well you MUST be taking the stuff!

The herd mentality will reverse eventually apart from those who are morbidly obese, which is what it was intended for in the first place.

"This stuff" can't be sold by anyone. Anyone advertising "retatrutide" is selling an illegal unlicenced product that could be anything at all. It isn't legitimate prescription medication, and any "pharmacy" selling it isn't an actual pharmacy. No regulated UK pharmacy would sell prescription medication via TikTok.

Bound to be ok then!
Hmm

Seilean · 21/04/2026 09:05

Retatrutide (LY-3437943) is an experimental drug for obesity developed by the American pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly and Company. It is a triple glucagon hormone receptor agonist (GLP-1, GIP, and GCGR receptors).

Thats so weird, I'm sure I remembered her getting it from somewhere else, I sit corrected.

OneThirdLess · 21/04/2026 09:28

This isn't a defence, but it's not illegal to take them. It also isn't illegal to sell them, because they're advertised as "for research purposes only and not for human consumption". Which is what makes them grey market, not black market.

I'd rather everyone had safe access! And I take mounjaro on a prescription, I'm way too risk averse to try anything else. But my understanding is that the peptides aren't all that difficult to make if you have the lab setup - which a lot of places in China (etc) do as they already make peptides legitimately for medicine companies.

So people taking grey market peptides are taking a risk - but it probably isn't as big a risk as we might think. Given how widespread they've become, there would be a lot more horror stories if they were all dodgy. In a way, that's more worrying - because they're becoming more popular so if a bad batch gets out, there could be a lot more harm done to more people, and there's no comeback on the manufacturer. For me that's a much bigger concern.

I’m not sure if you meant to sound snippy in your reply but it came across that way and there really was no need. I’m well aware it’s unlicensed and that it can be anything, I’m also well aware regulated pharmacies shouldn’t be selling it. Many are advertising through “influencers” who, in turn are telling others who to order it from on the app via PM. There’s certainly a few on that app with “Pharmacy” mentioned.
