Yes you can.

You just need spare needle tips, which you can buy by the hundred if you don't have any spare.

You don't need a syringe to do this. However, you will have about 3 doses of 2.5mg in thr "bonus dose" at thr end of the pen, so seems a waste not not to extract it with insulin syringes.

This sounds great! Thank you for replying. I’ll sort myself out with needle heads & insulin syringes, I think i’ll use the golden dose. I’m self buying as I've not exhausted the other NHS type 2 meds but i flat out asked GP about it going over 30 days - she wouldn't commit though but given the cost it worth a go!

Yes 8-10 weeks keeping in fridge and use a wipe on the red bung each time. Just make a diary note to order again in 4-6 weeks, yes you will build a stockpile eventually!

am i missing something? couldn’t you just take half a dose by counting clicks ?

Only until you've done the equivalent of 4 full doses, after that the pen will lock and you'd need syringes to extract the remainder

My concern for potentially using for 8-10 weeks, well past the manufacturer 30 day in use period, is any reduction in effectiveness for your T2 diabetes control and how you would manage that.

I don’t know anything about T2 but would it be a bigger issue than just for weight loss if it did lose some effectiveness? Would you need to take more and how would you know how much more to take?, could you take too much?

Lots of us on here have been using MJ and micro dosing using click counting with a 5mg or higher dose pen. Some of us are still actively losing and others are titrating down.

I think if you’re careful with hygiene and keep the pen in the fridge, the chances of the medicine degrading within a couple of months is fairly low risk but it’s up to the user to assess what level of risk they’re comfortable with.

Obviously, you do have to be careful with diabetes but if you check your blood sugars regularly, you’ll soon know if there’s a problem.

fantom · 12/04/2026 09:31

can anyone explain how you extract it?

Get a 1ml syringe with needle, pierce the red rubber bit, draw back on the syringe

I’m currently doing this but taking 2.5mg from a 7.5mg pen, so counting 20 clicks! It’s going to last me three months and I’m happy taking the risk.

The only issue I have with doing a similar thing is that the online pharmacy want to know why it’s been so long since you last ordered from them and if you say you ordered from another supplier as an excuse they want a photo of that pen with the printed label on it.

Yes that is a problem. I’ve actually got three pens stockpiled and they all expire at the end of this year. I’m really hoping I’ll be off MJ by then because I’m almost at my goal weight. I appreciate if I ever want to go back on it I’ll have to start back at the beginning.

MaudOHara · 12/04/2026 14:03

I have been doing this since month 2 and have been jabbing for almost 2 years. I know that I exceed the 30 days but I am very careful with hygiene and happy to accept the risk.

Medicine Marketplace did query the gap in ordering but I showed them photos of multiple pens that I had accumulated and told them that I had stockpiled before the price hike last year and they were happy with that.

@Funkylabrador if you have T2 then why are you buying it? If you have tried other T2 Meds and they are ineffective then your GP can prescribe MJ for you. And if you haven't exhausted the tablet options for your T2 then I would try those before taking MJ.

I was prescribed MJ after trying three other tablet options and still not managing to control my BS. I was slightly overweight (BMI 27) and it's worked wonders.
