Has anyone else become more critical of others' eating on Mounjaro?

Iv been on MJ a while and Im still on it now maintaining. I haven't always been big, I gained weight as I had some health issues that are now sorted.

This will sound hypocritical but I find other people so greedy now, constantly talking about food even though they have just eaten or ordering massive portions when out.
Always trying to arrange to go out for food and every outing has to have food included.

Does anyone else feel like this?

Before you took the Mj what way did you think about food (yours and other people's) ? I am interested in what has changed and why. I haven't used this product but if I understand it you just dont feel like eating as much anymore. I wonder if your loss of appetite translates into noticing how often/much food is consumed generally and then if you aren't hungry I am guessing you feel a bit nauseated by the thought of eating again? When I think back to my parents generation and my childhood, food was definitely very different. There was lots of tea drinking but food wasn't such a big deal, maybe some cake or biscuits. The fridge was pretty empty just basics and food was seen much more as fuel but in fairness I am talking about a low economic family and a time of less convenience food (which was also ironically more expensive).

I went on holiday with my friend recently and it did feel like she was constantly talking about food so I get it. It started to grate on me by the end of the holiday. Something else I notice with this medication is it also curbs other addictive tendencies so it also felt like she was wanting to buy and shop and I just wasn’t. I actually thought ‘god this medication is making me a dull holiday friend’

KentishMama · 10/04/2026 09:02

I'm going to get flamed for this, but I'm most judgemental towards others who are also on GLP-1, but who aren't using it as a tool to change how they are eating.

For example, I went away with someone recently. They are also on GLP-1 and complaining about low speed of loss. Yet they ate a big fry up for breakfast, had hot chocolate mid morning, then carb-heavy lunch, mid afternoon snack, three courses for dinner... I mean, come on. That's not how this works.

I lost a third of my body weight and am now on maintenance. And I certainly still enjoy an occasional meal out - e.g. last night - but usually skip the starter and share the dessert. Oh well!

CharlotteRumpling · 10/04/2026 09:06

It's a revelation to me that people spend so much time looking in other people's plates.

Pricelessadvice · 10/04/2026 09:10

Maybe people used to think exactly the same about you?

If your friend really was on GLP-1, there is no way she’d be able to eat a fry up for breakfast, carb-heavy lunch, ann afternoon snack and a 3 course dinner. She’d feel nauseous and have very severe side effects.
Someone is not telling the truth.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 10/04/2026 09:26

You could have worded that so much better!

Now I am on appetite suppressants, am I surprised by how preoccupied other people are by food? Why yes, yes I am! Even my teenage son asked if it was normal to really look forward to eating and I had to think about it, because I no longer care about food. I have a vague memory of really looking forward to eating and I yes, it was normal.

I agree, I dont shop for make up/clothing anymore like I used to which is probably a good thing as I have loads of both and now using up all my skin care and make up and not buying new.

but I agree, I feel like everyone is constantly talking about food and most of the time forcing you to join in as its the social norm.

Op deliberately created an inflammatory thread and now insults posters who responded with self righteous and self congratulatory bullshit.

See it for what it is, posters.

I noticed that. Once I saw replies I realised it wasn't a genuine thread.

Manicmondayss · 10/04/2026 09:54

So you were too greedy to lose weight without an appetite suppressant and now you’re judging others who aren’t on medication?

JeansandJumpers · 10/04/2026 09:57

I haven’t read all the replies but people are jumping on you harshly. I understand what you mean. In the western world food seems to have become a drug of choice and excessive eating normalised. I love food, and sharing it and celebrating with others is a good thing. But we so many feasts and treats it has become gluttonous. People can eat what they want, when they want, but I see what you see

BoredZelda · 10/04/2026 09:59

They could still eat massive meals if they’re taking a low dose that doesn’t suppress their appetite.

It’s only when I’ve noticed I’m hungrier and eating more that’s made me move up the doses to increase suppression.

DryIce · 10/04/2026 10:35

Interested in whether you judge everyone for gluttony, or just those overweight?

I would agree that as a culture we do base social interactions around food, which is possibly a bit confronting once you step back from it.

You're only looking at a snapshot, though, the big plateful eaters may not be the same as the constant grazers or the going back for second-ers.

Possibly I have a lucky metabolism or something, but I've never been overweight. I do like food though and will definitely pile up roast potatoes on a roast, or go for seconds on something Ive enjoyed. Between times, though, I don't really think about food - I'd ont count down to my next meal, or anticipate dinner at lunch or anything. So maybe all those bad habits you're observing balance out over the population

Dragonscaledaisy · 10/04/2026 08:53

What are you smug about?

Lol I feel a little smug too @ahshggs78 when I see people I’m eating with pile their plates with food then complain about not being able to lose any weight. I don’t judge them like the OP cos I know I’d be exactly the same if I wasn’t on the jabs! But you can’t help but feel a little bit smug while gnawing on the one and only carrot that makes up your lunch 🤣

hourglass2 · 10/04/2026 11:08

OP, they probably thought the same about you before you took the jabs.....

I could even at 15mg. Never had a single side effect and could eat as much as I wanted. I lost a bit over a stone on it, mainly initially. The food noise never went away. I went up a dose every month, stuck at 15mg for ages and quit when the prices went up.

Mengo · 10/04/2026 11:10

No, because I’ve been there (binge eating disorder) and hope that this time I can learn how to manage it for myself without judging others like a massive bellend.

She definitely was on it, on 5 mg - but not everyone gets the same side effects, and for her this dose might be too low to give her the full suppression. But she did complain about feeling uncomfortably full hours after eating, which sounds like a familiar Mounjaro effect to me...

ChoosingMyOwnRandomUsername · 10/04/2026 12:03

I think what the op is noticing is entirely normal and not at all linked to jabs.

You tend to notice things that are on your mind, that's all. Whenever I really focus on my diet, for example seriously eating more protein to support xyz workouts, all around me I see people eating meals and I think 'christ, bet there's not 10g in that, they'll be starving in two hours' or similar. It's just on my mind, I can't help it.

When we were discussing getting a dog, our chosen breed suddenly started appearing in front of me everywhere. Did my whole town suddenly aquire a springer spaniel? Of course not, I just noticed more what was top of my mind.

When your whole focus is calorie restriction, of course you'll notice huge eaters more.

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 10/04/2026 12:09

There's nothing like the zeal of the convert. OP reminds me of the former smokers who were the most vociferous critics of those who still smoked.

I'd gently encourage you to allow these thoughts to pass without judgement, OP. They are dangerously close to painful self-loathing of the person that you were when you were fat. That fat served a purpose for the person that you were and she deserves to be thought of kindly.

Thank you, I agree.

When you are making a sensible choice and then someone next to you is piling their plate high and then mentioning pudding before they have even finished their meal... I just think eugh, you just ate, do you really need cake already!

I can afford to eat cake from time to time because I am not overweight. What's it to you?
I was a bit last year- in case anyone digs up old posts- but have worked it off.
