Mounjaro and colonoscopy question

RosemaryBasil · 09/04/2026 13:39

I have a colonoscopy coming up and I’ve been asked to come off Mounjaro 2 weeks before the procedure. Is this standard now?

It doubt there is a standard as such probably depends on the clinic/hospital.

RosemaryBasil · 09/04/2026 15:16

@NoTouchjust wondered how common this is now, if others have been asked the same.

Because it slows down digestion it can interfere with the preparation for the colonoscopy. They want everything as cleared out as possible to get a good look.
I was told 7 days but it obviously will vary between hospitals what they want.

Yes @IsItSnowingthere’s also a risk of gastric aspiration during the procedure apparently. I was just surprised as I was on Mounjaro for my colonoscopy last year and wasn’t asked to stop it then, and my bowel prep was fine.

I had a colonoscopy booked in with only about 10 days notice in December, I asked and they said no need to stop taking it. I took the prep as advised but it took 24 hours to start working so it was extremely ropey getting to the appointment without an accident. I wished I'd stopped taking it beforehand so the prep would have worked as quickly as it's supposed to

Thanks @namechange0998776554799000 that’s quite helpful to know! Nothing worse than the journey to the hospital when it’s like that!
