I have just started looking into this.
I have a lot to lose, at least 5 stone, so I thought WLI might give me a good start.

But I looked on Boots website and it seems to start from £180 a month and increases as you up the dose.
Is this right?

Is this what everyone is paying?

There is no way on earth I could ever afford that.
Or did I read the information incorrectly?

The first month ( 2.5mg ) is usually the cheapest and you get lots of introductory deals ,especially if you switch companies , the higher the dose the more expensive it gets unfortunately

MrTiddlesTheCat · 03/04/2026 14:35

They're incredibly expensive. Although I've found I have more money in my account now then before I started. I didn't fully realise how much I was wasting on junk.

GloiredeDijon · 03/04/2026 14:36

Look at monj uk discount price list.
Boots is one of the most expensive so I would avoid them. You are paying for the name.

It’s pretty well known that they’re expensive OP… yes that’s the cost. That’s what everyone is paying. It helped that my food costs pretty much halved while on it.

Wildgoat · 03/04/2026 15:00

Yes, you can get the starter initiate treatment dose for about 150 and it goes up to about 300. Boots are one of the more expensive. You need to assume really you’d have to move up the doses, as although some can make it work in lower doses, it’s really about how your body reacts.

and yes that’s what we are all paying. It’s horribly expensive.

alspancakeworld · 03/04/2026 15:00

It’s not what everyone is paying. Most of us aren’t getting it from pharmacies OP. My bottle of semaglutide lasts months At £50 for the bottle. Obviously you have to be careful about who is supplying it but I’m only saying it to make my point that not everyone is going weekly for their injections and paying that price.

This doesn’t help you op, it’s just someone trying to give you their code as it means they also get a discount, but you need to assume moving up doses and multiple months

CornishPorsche · 03/04/2026 15:02

Have a look at www.monj.co.uk - it's a comparison site and you can look at all the various discounted costs.

Peony1985 · 03/04/2026 15:07

A lot of people started before the big price increase last summer.
It is expensive but it works quickly, makes you feel positive ( if only because you cut out eating crap) and your food bill goes down.
I’d look at the price comparison on providers and budget.

There is a thread that worked out pounds lost to pounds spent on here. For mist people it was £33 (can’t remember if it was actually per kilo or pound)

Op, this poster is buying illegal drugs, with no safety checks and risking their life to save money and be thin. It’s shocking people do it, but even more shocking they try to flog it to someone else and this could just be someone trying to flog you their fake crap.

And where did you get this amazing cheap bottle from ?

It’s dodgy @Stopthatknocking. Avoid

Maybe you should point out it’s subscription based to the op as you try to get someone who can’t afford it to use your discount so you can ger some discount too.

Where have I tried to sell it to OP? “Fake” but I’ve lost 2 and half stone in 6 months. I also clearly said in this situation you have to be careful. OP asked if the price she stated is what everyone is paying. I simply answered her question that no, it isn’t because not everyone is going through pharmacies. I didn’t tell her to go do it herself.

“Most of us” ?? Maybe in your world, but not in mine. My hairdresser doesn’t sell the stuff.

SilenceInside · 03/04/2026 15:32

@Stopthatknocking Wegovy is much cheaper than Mounjaro and can be as effective. It goes without saying don't buy illegal unknown gubbins in a vial from dodgy websites. It’s unsafe and funds goodness knows what. Look at the legitimate suppliers on the Monj site or igovy.co.uk for Wegovy.

bardosya · 03/04/2026 15:35

On Wegovy not MJ but I have managed to get it discounted every month, either using newbie codes or referral codes. Would recommend shopping around.

Beautyfox · 03/04/2026 15:37

If cost is an issue then maybe look at wegovy much cheaper price point and still very effective.

WappityWabbit · 03/04/2026 15:39

Yes, it’s a big investment in your health, not a cheap quick fix.

You also have to factor in that you’ll probably need to stay on the injections for at least a year after reaching your goal weight. This allows your body to adapt to your new size inc. developing new eating habits and an exercise regime.

Otherwise, if you don’t make the necessary changes, there’s a high risk of you piling all the weight back on again.

perimenopoppet · 03/04/2026 15:50

This thread went sideways quickly.

OP - yes it’s very expensive, there are legitimate ways to get it a bit cheaper than that using monj.co.uk and changing suppliers to take advantage of new customer deals.

Most importantly - please, please ignore anyone who offers a month supply for less than £100 (really anything less than £120 these days is unlikely). Only use a registered pharmacy. The PP who gets it for £60 and is seeing results may well have a version of the ‘real thing’ but it’s a massive risk to inject a drug that hasn’t been obtained legally. No assurance it’s the drug ir dose it claims to be.

also code sharing is only for real friends and family - if you know someone in real life taking it you can ask for a referral code but ignore those jumping on your thread as they are just in it for the credit they will get - won’t necessarily be a genuine recommendation even if it’s a legit pharmacy.

good luck. It’s life changing and worth every penny if you can find a way to budget for it.

Ive reported the posts promoting dangerous options, hoping they will vanish soon - please join me in this others users as this bank hol weekend is likely to be a busy one with lots of newbies looking for info.

The only sensible thing in this statement is "you have to be careful".

Do not listen to any idiots who buy mystery chemicals in a bottle from unregulated, illegal sources and when asked will not share how they are being "careful" and can ensure the muck they are injecting into their body is safe.

As others have said, £180 is at the more expensive end for Mounjaro, which is dearer than Wegovy. There are cheaper providers at the Monj link above. Mounjaro users often do the 'bonus dose' where you get 5 instead of 4, albeit apparently the design is changing soon to prevent that. People who've been on it a long time often titrate down too, so the between that and the bonus dose they may be getting quite a bit more than 4 out of each pen.

And many of us find we save money on food and drink. That seems to be particularly prevalent with those who like alcohol, so if that's you then you may save more than you think.

But in virtually all cases it is a cost, no way round that. For me I think it works out as about £25-30 per week.
