Are Wegovy and Mounjaro now similarly priced for weight loss treatment?

I have a little price confusion. I am not going to advertise where I get my Mounjaro injection from but I pay £250 for 12.5 as a subscription cost, its higher than it was previously but lower than some as I get a discount for paying via a subscription. My confusion is I was under the impression Wegovy was significantly cheaper than Mounjaro after the price hike last year by Eli Lilly, but my friend has just signed up for Wegovy by a well known pharmacist, the first month is £79 as an offer but then it goes up to £200 a month for the injections and even higher at the top doses. So am I just lucky with my subscription or is there really not much difference in the costs of the 2 different GLP1s anymore? I always thought when I cant afford MJ I can possibly maintain on Wegovy but if its not much difference in cost I may as well stay on MJ or taper to a lower dose.

while they are both GLP1s you cannot compare strengths directly as they depend on your individual response - someone might respond well to Mounjaro at low 2.5mg dose but need a higher dose of 7.2mg of Wegovy, or vice versa.

Your friend is being ripped off imo, majorly. There’s only one supplier on the igovy.co.uk list that charges that much, all the rest are significantly cheaper. It’s not a well known pharmacy either. You can name the pharmacy, people discuss them all the time on these threads.

On a separate note, I’m not sure it’s worth the risk of swapping to Wegovy for maintenance, as there’s no guarantee it will work as well or at all, and although it’s cheaper if it’s significantly less effective then it’s a false economy potentially.

I’m not sure those prices are right for Voy, as even their most expensive plan, the monthly one, the costs for the 0.5mg dose is £169, not £200. Or she’s signed up to some custom but very expensive deal with them.

Either way, Voy are often the most expensive, for no real additional benefit. Providers like Medicine Market Place for example do the first three dose levels for £92 a month, then it’s £117 for 1.7mg and £135 for 2.4mg. It’s only £202 for the 7.2mg dose which very few people will need.

You can also keep costs down by swapping pharmacy each order to get their new customer discount each time.

1.7 is £219 is this not correct i will tell her to challenge them on this cost

I assumed you meant the 0.5mg dose as you mentioned the second month. 1.7mg is £219 on Voy’s most expensive plan which is their monthly one. I would just suggest to her that she cancels and changes provider - as mentioned, she can get 1.7mg from Medicine Market Place for £117. Why would you pay over £100 more for exactly the same medication?!
