Going up a dose for final stone?

I've been on mounjaro since February 2025 and have lost 5 stone with one left to go. It's been slow and steady which I'm happy with and I have changed habits to some extent but emotional eating is still there and I do eat chocolate and crisps quite a bit still. I'm very active and do lots of exercise.
I'm currently on 10mg which I've been on for at least 6 months and am pondering whether to go up to 12.5mg to help with the last stone I need to lose. I am still losing slowly (a couple of lbs a month) but get cravings and eat chocolate daily. Satiety is fairly good but I do snack. It's costing a fortune but I'm scared to move to Wegovy incase food noise massively returns and 12.5mg isn't much more financially than 10mg. I don't want to become 'reliant' on 12.5mg though and find it hard dropping down. Wonder if I should see if I can make changes while still on 10mg.

This comes from a place of support not judgement, but i think you should invest in re-dressing your diet as opposed to forking out for a higher dose. If you don't address your eating now, what happens when you finish your journey on injectables?

They are designed to help make lifestyle/eating changes easier and more manageable, so perhaps you should begin to implement change (less chocolate/crisps/snacking) now while you have the support of the 10mg rather than relying on 12.5 to take it all away, because if you don't address the underlying issue (eating these things daily) what happens when you finish your injectable journey?- you won't have addressed the habits that required you to begin in the first instance.

That seems wise @Whatwouldyoudoif

I also think this is not a drug issue, but a dietary one, you can’t rely on the drug to do the heavy lifting for you, you will end up on max dose and still struggling.

youre going to have to use willpower to stop the snacking otherwise you will never maintain,

Yes I’d go up a dose. If you’ve reached a plateau and have been on 10mg for 6 months it feels appropriate to move up. That’s if you still have a stone to lose. Maybe a stone more would be too much? Well done for losing by 5 stone!

Yes absolutely wise words, thank you. Needed to hear this.

OP hasn’t reached a plateau, she is losing half a pound a week which is actually perfect for the last stone. OP needs to make changes to her eating rather than take more MJ.

UniChildQuestions · 01/04/2026 19:10

I think half a pound a week is quite normal for the last stone. I'm keen to drop down doses and not get too high up so finding that last 2 stone alow!

myladyjane · 01/04/2026 19:17

So I tried this. I also probably rely a bit too much on the drug to do heavy lifting when stressed/tired. Nothing like I used to but I do notice it’s still a thing.

it actually didn’t work. No notable increase in rates of loss but an increase in side effects. Made me very lethargic and suppression was too high. Obviously as we all know everyone is different but I moved back down, very slightly raised calories (I am a tracker) refocused on what I eat and I upped activity which you already have nailed. Started to lose again and got rid of the last half a stone surprisingly quickly. Am now around goal but have decided to try a few more lbs off so on a kind of maintenance lite. Touch wood, going ok…..

I went up a dose in January after stagnating for a couple of months in the run up to Christmas - it worked a dream for me, and I started losing 2lb a week again. So I say go for the higher dose, that's what it's there for.
I'm on 12.5mg now - I've lost nearly 5 stone now, which I never, ever thought I'd be able to do. About half a stone to go...

Thanks for all the replies, appreciate them. I've ordered another 10mg pen and will see how I go. Will try and cut down on the choc!
