BMI 25 have I got any chance of being allowed to buy weight loss injections?

That’s my question really - would appreciate any advice. For context I am 43 yo mother of three with my youngest 3 yo. I weigh 75 kg and want to try to about 70 and I am struggling to shift the dial via fasting and exercise.

the Boots website says you have to be BMI 27 or 30’eithout conditions to be allowed to start but wondering anyone else has managed it with a slightly lower BMI?

Don’t be ridiculous. Accept yourself the way you are or find a weight loss method that works if you must.

AliceR1 · 31/03/2026 23:17

Ummm doubt it. I feel your pain, I’m 46 and it’s painful to manage weight… it just bloody sticks! Unless you find a friend that’s within the range… something I’d do, not suggesting you should!

You are 0.1 BMI over a healthy weight.

I would imagine it's very unlikely.

SummerInSun · 31/03/2026 23:26

I’m almost exactly the same as you - age, weight, BMI, etc. Infuriating, isn’t it? People who are very overweight can get WLI and stay on them until they get their BMI down to well within the healthy weight range, but if you are just at the top of or slightly over, you can’t get them. Unless you go to somewhere super expensive in Mayfair or whatever that does “micro dosing”. And I get that - I keep asking myself how can it be so hard to lose the 3kg or so that would make me feel like my old self again. And occasionally I do (usually due to stress or illness if I’m honest) but then it springs back up. It’s like post my second DC that’s become my new set point weight and I can’t get away from it.

lol. Nope!

How rude! Why is it ok for very fat people to be allowed to purchase it and continue taking it when they get to a healthy BMI?? Anyone can go and pay for invasive cosmetic surgery but they’re not allowed to pay for WLIs 🥴 It’s ridiculous.

SnowFrogJelly · 01/04/2026 00:55

You don’t need them!

morbidcuriosity · 01/04/2026 02:11

going against the grain here.. Med Express and voy are letting people with BMI of 25 get it.

There was a thread a bit ago on this. Some people suggested that on the application you exaggerate your weight a bit, reduce your height a bit and make sure that you look as fat as you can in the picture you send. Boots is the most expensive provider and the service isn’t that great. They are relying on their reputation. Suggest you look at other providers and look at their criteria as a PP suggested. The injections are effective although a fair few people have unpleasant side effects which can be managed usually with a bit of trial and error. The WLI tends to cause some extreme comments as people think it’s cheating and shouldn’t be allowed and the answer is exercise, healthy diet and lifestyle changes as if you haven’t already tried all this. So be prepared to ignore copious dieting advice and/or unpleasant comments.

Sorry but her 10 lbs isn’t the same as my obesity, T2 diabetes, and metabolic disease. Her life isn’t in danger, the NHS isn’t giving her free medication because she has a chronic weight-related disease, it’s completely different.

It's an obesity medication, you do not suffer with obesity FFS.

Because obesity is a recurrent disease, having a BMI of 25 isn’t.

ChaToilLeam · 01/04/2026 07:35

No, and for very good reason.

TheBlueKoala · 01/04/2026 07:37

@Contraversialcatergory Ofcourse you can! Go on a low dose- reduce your height and add some to your weight and you will get it.

Notsosweetcaroline · 01/04/2026 08:05

Bit odd so many folks saying no;

op, both voy and MedExpress prescribe to bmi 25, you need to email the latter I think, but both advertise it.

good,luck

She doesn’t need to lie she can get it legit.

OhFuckyNell · 01/04/2026 08:11

Yes you can like others have said. Shop around!

butter764 · 01/04/2026 08:40

Try Voy. I started with a BMI of 25 and have lost 12lb in just over 2 months, about 5-8lb to target (feasible target, ideal target!) It’s been amazingly helpful. Some side effects at the start but have settled well, and I feel great on them. Drinking less, eating better, eating much less crap, and my IBS has all but disappeared. Honestly I would happily stay on them for life if I carry on feeling like this!

Custodynights · 01/04/2026 08:51

Yes you can probably get them - and you should if you want to. Life is too short to be worried about dieting all the time, why live miserably when you don't have to?

Not sure what your point is to be honest. OP taking these injections doesn’t affect anyone else. Millions of people in the UK and millions more around the world take these injections. Most don’t get them from the NHS but pay very handsomely for them. Their reasons are varied. Some have serious weight problems and other conditions but simply don’t meet the NHS criteria for injections. Some (many) are simply unhappy with their weight. If being overweight by any amount is affecting your physical and mental health there is no reason why if you can afford it you should not try and get the help you want. You wouldn’t criticise if people were using the multitude of other approaches to weight loss all of which have advantages and disadvantages. The injections seem to bring out a high level of annoyance in some people for some reason not connected to concern for the potential user although something dressed up as this.

butter764 · 01/04/2026 09:39

Society: women mustn’t be fat! Wait you’ve found an easier way to lose weight? You’re vain and lazy!

Username19893847477374 · 01/04/2026 10:10

No-one is suggesting she's vain and lazy, how silly. It's medication for a disease that she doesn't have!

If you don’t understand my point then you have problems with reading comprehension. She isn’t overweight.
