How much of a deficit are you all aiming for?

my calories are adjusted for 1kg loss per week.

Aiming to eat up to 1800 a day which is a 500 calorie deficit for me.

Nothing express about MedExpress - still waiting for it to be processed since Monday morning. is this normal for new customers?

I had not a great first customer experience. My order got put on hold while they checked with me something in my medical record and even after replying immediately it stuck on hold for 4 days. Would recommend going on chat and insisting on being put through to an actual person. When I got through she was actually very helpful and pushed it through for me and I received my delivery the next day.

I'm not counting calories, just trying to keep a balanced diet and focus on protein and fibre. Although if it keeps on like this I will struggle to get enough calories in me! Only managed a very small (toddler!) portion of roast cauliflower, salad and chicken, and that was a struggle.

Roast cauliflower was a mistake, had the most horrible cauliflower burps all evening 🤢

Im short so a 500 deficit for me from my TDEE is 1100 calories a day so it annoys me when people say it’s so unhealthy to eat under 1200 calories a day. For short people we need to consume a lot less calories than taller people and this is only to lose 1lb a week it’s depressing! And a bit reason why I need mj I would love to eat 1700/1800 a day but I would actually put weight on at that weight as I’m obese eating 1600.

thinkofsomethingdifferent · 14/04/2026 22:10

@Cedricsmumi did speak to someone at 10;30 this morning who advised it had been passed on for clinician review, which it is still saying now. It’s a lesson not to leave it so late to order, as due to jab on Monday and it says it takes up to 3 days with delivery excluding Saturdays. Yes it’ll probably come Monday but that’s only if approved tomorrow.

Hello 👋
I’m new to mumsnet (so hope this post is in the correct place 🤣) I am on my 3rd dose and I was absolutely terrified to start. I’m based in Australia and found out my UK friend has been on Mounjaro since before xmas and has lost 3 stone! I wanted to delay my start as I had 2 bbq catch ups over Easter but I just when ahead and glad I just ate smaller portions and didn’t drink as much wine and still ate a few chocolates and managed to lose weight .. win win.

I have my fitness pal app downloaded, I deleted all my previous weights, measured myself and started a fresh. I track everything I eat (and to make sure I am eating enough).
I am a grazer so never did eat lots but snacked in the evenings with a glass (or two) of wine.

Would love to lose 20kg
Starting weight 94.7kg
2 weeks in lost 3kg

Side effects:some constipation (drink lots of water or take stool softener as a last resort if that doesn’t work), I felt sick once after some restaurant trio of dips. White wine gives me acid reflux, red wine is OK

Typical Day:
Breakfast: Protein shake, 1/2 banana.
2 dates
Lunch: Chicken or falafels with pear salad and 1/2 banana
Dinner: Whatever the family is eating just on a smaller plate

My order arrived next day after it was moved to approved. Hopefully yours will be same 🤞

@pomegranatepie that's fantastic, so good to be getting the positive effects so quickly! And a relief to know that food is still enjoyable too :)

@Ilovepeas175 that's an incredible loss, well done!

@TFICoffeetime I was too scared to order last week but finally took the plunge today and ordered my first pen! Just waiting for it to be approved and delivered and hoping to start on Thursday or Friday so I'll be a week behind you- how have you found it this week?

Strength training is your friend here!

Wingingit11 · 15/04/2026 06:06

I’m loosely attempting 16:8 which worked well for me previously without getting too hung up otherwise beyond attempting to be vaguely nutritious.

Strength training is your friend here!

I'd love to start some strength training, at home (gym is not an option for me) but I have no idea where to start, I bought a set of hand weights (which have been collecting dust for a while now) I will try and find an easy to follow video for beginners. I do a physical job, which should help a bit.

This has worked well for me in the past too, mainly because it knocks out evening snacking, which has been my downfall really.

StolenPineappleCup · 15/04/2026 07:52

Day 2... all I've managed to eat is a few mouthfuls of pasta! I feel like I'm hungover this morning! I've got the ingredients for a protein shake (as mentioned above) and going to go shopping today and get lots of fruit, veg, and chicken protein skewers, etc. so I can try and graze. I already take all the necessary supplements, etc.

Worried about exercising with this lack of energy! Really hoping I feel more human and energetic soon...

Wingingit11 · 15/04/2026 07:57

@pomegranatepie definitely agree. Personally I am terrible at grazing unconsciously (or consciously !! And it helps me partition a bit. I also find on mj I don’t really want or need breakfast and tend to brunch which turns all of my “breakfast is the most important meal of the day” thing drummed into me as an 80s kid on its head but what happens for me is the earlier I start to eat, the more I eat overall

StolenPineappleCup · 15/04/2026 08:00

Oh and I have a dinner date on Saturday night for the first time in forever! Ge wanted to go for an Indian though! Managed to persuade him to do tapas instead as I don't think I could do more than graze... worried he's going to see it as a problem though as he loves his food!

Ilovepeas175 · 15/04/2026 08:18

I’ve woken up starving today after taking my 2nd jab last night 😣 I’m wondering if I’ve jabbed too close to my belly button. I read something about being a certain distance away, but totally forgot that last night when jabbing. It’s about 2-3 inches from my belly. Away to make a protein shake and hope for the best!

Farsideofthemoon · 15/04/2026 08:35

Doing a check in as sometimes I find it helpful to look back at what was happening at different stages for me.
I eventually took my first dose on Monday evening. For a variety of ( some valid )reasons I had kept delaying. This is my second attempt at using MJ, ( 3 months last summer - stopped fairly abruptly) when I first tried it the impact was immediate and my appetite disappeared. This time I am not feeling the same. I spent most of yesterday drinking lots of water and green tea and food choices were all good but I could happily have eaten lots more. I am also an evening grazer, rewarding myself for abstinence and restraint throughout the day. Obviously hoping that I can keep my choices sensible and once MJ is consistently in my system I will feel the impact on appetite more. 🤞🏼

MessyNDepressy · 15/04/2026 10:15

Today is day 5 for me. I had been getting great suppression up until last night. I take a medication called Mirtazapine which is an appetite stimulant (and the reason for my weight gain!) and the Mounjaro was doing a good job of counteracting the effects of it. However last night within half an hour of taking my meds it was like someone just flicked a switch 😩. I was ravenous and cravings were back a thousand fold. Ended up binging on half a packet of biscuits , three cream eggs and a corner yoghurt. Pretty disappointed and disgusted with myself. I have an appointment next week to discuss changing my medication so hopefully that will help. I guess I might need to look at going up to 5mg next time I’m due to order too. My next jab is Friday evening so I just need to have some self control over the next few days. Have binned the other half of the biscuits! And have also logged all the extra food on my fitness pal to hold myself accountable. Worked out around 2500 calories which is actually only 200 above my maintenance and still way less than I was eating before. Trying to stay positive and brush it off so I’m off to the gym.

MyGardenDaisies · 15/04/2026 10:25

48h after first jab and -1kg, which is water weight but I feel fab, already less inflamed feeling!

feeling full from a very small breakfast, and today have planned high protein foods.

Hi all, I've decided to start Mounjaro and want to get going this month! I want to lose 4 st and am not getting very far so help is needed. Can I ask, which suppliers did you go with? Was it purely based on price or support as well? I didn't realise they contact your GP. Did anyone's GP get in touch? Xx

I told my GP over the NHS app myself, as I take other medication regularly, and wanted to make sure I’m ok to take both.

I have gone with Boots for 1st pen, used a discount. I chose them as I’ve got trust in them as a business and their online GP response they sent to me was very comprehensive. On collection they also gave sharps box and spare needles. The whole process was 4h to get reviewed and prescribed, and my pen was ready like 3 days later.

I might go with MedExpress next to use a discount code.

pomegranatepie · 15/04/2026 13:00

I went with Voy, not the cheapest, but they responded quickly, I had my pen within 2 days of applying (which was on a Sunday) and I quite like the tracking app they include. I will probably change around at some point as after the first month discount it's pretty pricey. I'm hoping as it's working so quickly and well on 2.5 that I can stay on this dose for a while though, which will save a bit of money. We shall see.

LWestYorks · 15/04/2026 13:58

Hey! First timer here - when does everyone jab? Morning or evening? X

ScreamingDelight · 15/04/2026 14:21

I went with boots as they had a discount code (and then when I collected there was a leaflet instore for 20% off, i got 10! Typical), and the fact you collect points (anyone else use their beauty recycling scheme?)

I went for evening, in case I had immediate side effects so I could sleep through (I'm not sure of there is any logic to this though 😂)
