Protein shakes recommendations

Looking for some recommendations please of any protein shakes people use that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. Considering starting WLI again and would like to ensure I am having enough protein daily so thinking a protein shake would be helpful with this.

can anyone recommend any that isn’t really expensive? Thanks

Are you a member of Costco? They sell various protein shakes including Optimum Nutrition, which I have used in the past. They might be a bit cheaper than other places.

Overhaul your diet so you get what you need from food before going down replacement route.

Mini babybel light are cheaper - £2.89 for 10 which is 100g protein. Each babybel is 5g, so nice and easily portioned and they are easy to grab & go too. Obvs only good if you like cheese! But they are also only 42cals each so don't break the calorie bank. Just thought it worth mentioning as an alternative to a shake is handy sometimes.

My protein are delicious

I got a fudge flavoured one "grenade" on offer on Amazon last week for £9.99
(Half price I think)
I use them mixed into plain yogurt to make a pudding so I can't vouch for how it works in a shake.

We use protein coffees from Lidl or Aldi. Always keep a stock in the fridge for those days when you can't really face eating.
My son likes Arla protein shakes to take to school. Farmfoods do small shelf stable ones.

I like ufit25 iced latte. That's breakfast most days because I don't and never have eaten breakfast really. Ufit 50 are nice but don't do a coffee one. If I'm struggling to eat after a dose increase I might have a Yfood drink. Its more a meal replacement though. Reasonable protein but decent fibre and more balanced.

Myprotein do nice juice like ones. Although look in Asda or Superdrug as they are £15 rather than the once on the website.

It’s really difficult to get enough protein on WLI and it’s important to get as much as possible to help keep your muscle mass. Protein shakes are actually a great way to get enough protein while keeping calories low.

LadyOfACertainAge · 30/03/2026 20:51

I’ve started using the collagen glow up protein powder by nutrition geeks to try and help thicken my hair back to where it was before WLI!

ohhhhnnnoooo · 30/03/2026 20:56

Maxi nutrition promax lean. I get them on sale though.

yeesh · 30/03/2026 21:06

I like the Aldi protein coffee as mentioned earlier, 20g protein and they’re 95p each. They also do protein shakes for about a pound which are nice.

morbidcuriosity · 30/03/2026 21:24

I use MyProtein, order online though, cheaper than at supermarkets.. Its also a nice little sweet treat, I have chocolate Brownie and Vanilla Powder.

It’s not ‘really difficult’ if you use WLI properly and don’t chase full appetite suppression.

I like the clear whey protein drinks from MyProtein. My favourite is raspberry lemonade but they have loads of flavours. It just tastes like squash but is 20g of protein. I have one every day!

That’s the one I buy but look in Asda and Superdrug as it’s £15 in there.
