That’s awful @Polkadotdash. My level of vexation on your behalf has cranked up a notch.

The dress. Still think it makes me look a bit dumpy but it’s comfortable and easy to wear

the dress is indeed very cute and not dumpy at all

I bumped into an old colleague today who I haven’t seen for about a year. She genuinely didn’t recognise me, even after I said hello. I had to say, it’s me, Zempy!!

So funny! We used to see each other a few times a week regularly for about three years.

Post holiday gain has been eradicated and I am back to 8:0.

I am sad summer appears to be over now, but it was nice while it lasted eh?

Jins · 30/05/2026 09:05

Happy weekend losers!

DH is off with mates this weekend so I’ve got a quiet time to get on with some serious pottering. I’m going to start with putting the holiday laundry away because I’m a slattern and it’s been in a laundry basket too long. Then I’m hoping to get into my sewing room to plan a few projects. I’m currently ignoring the two tax return letters as it’s not how I want to spend my weekend.

Car now repaired and MOT in hand but I’m £400 poorer. Could have been worse I guess but my tax is due as well and I need to order a new pen. Things will be a wee bit tight in June but at least our trip to Crete is paid for and it’s AI so we’ll be fed.

Polkadotdash · 30/05/2026 10:32

Life always has a way of extracting more money from you! I’m supposed to be resting this weekend but my youngest child cannot think of anything to do but look at her phone all day so I’m going to have to come up with something to do to get her off it. It’s still hot and humid here and I’ve got very little energy. We had a seaside trip earlier in the week because my husband had a day off and I slept all the way and all the way back and I can never sleep in the car.
Had some very frustrating news about pelvic floor therapy. Been waiting since August to get referred. Referal has been put through but the wait is at least 12 weeks before they will even consider it. I’m now thinking I’ve got to save myself as the nhs isn’t going to. Which means paying for private sessions. This could put a total end to my MJ spend. Honestly, if I was an animal they’d just shoot me. I’m falling apart!

Zempy · 30/05/2026 11:02

Sorry to hear that @Polkadotdash. Maybe it will be sooner than the twelve weeks? Are there any exercises you can do yourself? Sorry if that’s way off the mark!

I had an appointment with my MSK consultant this week (yep, paid for to avoid six months wait) and he had harsh news. Basically, most people with my combination of afflictions; hypermobility, arthritis and hip dysplasia etc would be in a wheelchair by now, so overall, I’m doing well. However, I can no longer rely on steroids and if I want to stay out of a wheelchair, I need to work really hard, doing very specific exercises every bloody day for the rest of my life.

I am not @HeidiLiteand do not go to the gym. This is DREADFUL NEWS. I just need to suck it up though and make it a new habit. I live alone, so my independence is crucial.

Good luck with the tidying @Jins. I’m also getting stuck into housework today. Visiting a friend all day tomorrow.

HeidiLite · 30/05/2026 12:34

@Jins well good and bad news about the car. But at least it's fixed. And yes you can eat in the AI.

@Polkadotdash oh that's not great, the health care system really isn't managing. Since august just to get referred!

@Zempy what did the colleague say when they figured out who you are?

And for the gym, it may grow on you. DH is getting concerned I am a tiiiiny bit obsessed and forces me to take rest days. But this morning after the abs class I taught, I could actually see my 6-pack! Never ever would I have thought..

Still nice and hot here, there's a big Health Expo in town, will drop by and then try to do something about the wilderness...I mean my garden.

Next weekend I will have my high school reunion, haven't seen some of those people for 30 years. It is certainly nicer to go there in my current shape, quite looking forward to that.

OP posts:
HeidiLite · 30/05/2026 12:36

oh yes and as we have discussed before, many of us seem to be hypermobile. The specialist I saw a couple of years ago also said that it's really good I lift weights, the muscles are basically keeping me together, as joints are not doing much.

OP posts:
Zempy · 30/05/2026 12:42

@HeidiLite she didn’t mention my weight bless her, too polite for that.

I bet some people at your reunion won’t recognise you!!

Jins · 30/05/2026 12:58

I decided to streamline my makeup drawer a few weeks ago and threw most of it away due to expiry dates or it not being suitable for my wrinkles and treated myself to a few new things. Today I’m testing the longevity of the wonderskin stuff I bought. Impressed so far, might get a few more colours.

I’ve also treated myself to some new sandals. Aldi replicas of Birkenstock Arizonas and because I have ridiculously small feet I got a lovely beige pair in the kids section. £4.99! They’ll do for round the house

Thelittlestranger · 30/05/2026 14:06

@Zempy and @Polkadotdash I highly recommend pilates. I've drunk the Kool Aid while I've been training to be a teacher, but it can be very good (with the right teacher) for everything you both describe. Pelvic floor, hyper mobility, bine density etc, etc. And it's less about performance and perfection, and more about understanding your body, and becoming aware of it's strengths and bringing balance to where is needed. For hyper mobility, as an example, it teaches you to find the mid point and focus on stability. Anyway - I'm sure you've already tried it...!

Did my longest run this year, today, at just over 10k. Trying to run a few lbs off. And first wild swim of the year last night - was beautiful 😍

Enjoy your weekends all x

HeidiLite · 30/05/2026 16:10

@Jins ooh I love the lip stains, I have half their collection!

Went to the health expo, was fun to have people looking at my arms and going: I see you may be a customer of our protein shakes...

Happy Saturday all!

I’m off on a work trip on Monday somewhere sunny so needed to sort myself out today. Hair cut & colour, mani-pedi, gym. And DS2 has helped with the laundry, so bedsheets are done I just need to do my clothes now.

We’ve also had a gardener in to blitz the small jungle, and tree surgeons to remove our beloved willow that died last year. Can actually enjoy sitting out there now. And there’s more space to dry the laundry so that helps. Although having the patio weeded (we had lots of pretty forget-me-nots growing so I left them as long as possible!) has revealed it is actually very uneven and we really should get it relaid. That’s a next year project.

A mid-week weigh the other day had me under 60kg, so the 2.5mg is still working its magic. I think I’ll jab same again tomorrow and then next week so I’ve done a month of 2.5mg before thinking about trying 2mg again.

BreezyPeer · 30/05/2026 19:50

@Jins thats brilliant about designing your garden. I've just had a big patio built (at great expense!) and now I'm looking at tge rest of the garden. I need to make sure it's usable and manageable- yours sounds lovely! I am keen on some wildlife friendly areas too
I love that dress! Really emphasises your lovely waist 😍
@HeidiLite small boobs! So much fun to dress! I love being able to pick beautiful bra sets up and look cute in them ❤️
And teenage drama at work, no one needs it!
@Polkadotdash I hope the injections start to work soon 🙏
What a useless faff- the one word report is- what a waste of everyone's time
@Zempy how funny they didn't recognise you! You must look very different ( gorgeous obviously!)
I'm sorry to hear about your doctor's opinion. You are doing so much already to keep yourself independent
I do pilates with a great teacher every week! Highly recommended
Have a great rest of your Saturday every one
I am away this weekend, eating everything in sight. Need to get back on it next week
Xxx

Polkadotdash · 30/05/2026 20:22

We refer to Pilates as ‘pilot lattes’ in our house after my lovely dear departed MIL’s GP once said to her that she should try that ‘new fangled exercise class called pilot lattes’. 😆
I have done Pilates classes in the past but alas time and money mean it’s a no go now. I know I should exercise but like @Zempy I just bloody hate it. HATE IT. Even Pilates. I find any exercise weirdly makes my depression much worse since it’s an actual quantifiable measure of how shit I am at something (rather than it just being in my head). There is nothing I can do - I’m a pathetic swimmer, I cannot run, I hate team sports, I hate sweating, I can’t lift more than about a kilo. Honestly, it’s pathetic. The only thing I’m vaguely good at is ten pin bowling and there’s not much call for that 😂

Zempy · 30/05/2026 20:28

I hear you @Polkadotdash. Honestly, I have put it off for as many years as possible but I really just have to do it now or massively restrict my mobility. It’s shit and I hate it.

I have done all my exercises today though so am feeling very virtuous, if slightly sore. If I can do it, so can you.

PenelopePitstopPersists · 30/05/2026 21:56

Greetings everyone.

I'm no longer an exercise fan - I make myself do it, I never get a buzz or a high, I simply endure it. This is a massive change for me, I was always really sporty, cancer, menopause, life .... I just cannot be bothered - but I make myself, partly because my social life involves it.

The cheapest thing I do is buy a Peleton membership each year, I haven't got a Peleton but the range of classes, yoga, pilates, strength etc., is by far the best I have found. Plenty of Yin Yoga classes, lots of easy classes, short classes - great for those who don't want to do much imo. The kids use ifit and apple fitness but I find the range on Peleton the best for me. I think it is £120 for the year.

No weight loss here but I have got a lot of rubbish to contend with atm, got a few big things going on. This too shall pass. 😑Not sure I will keep buying pens if I don't lose anything, I thought I could shift the last 7lbs but nothing has moved and seeing as I didn't gain off it I might save my cash, will give it one more month.

DGmaintaining · 30/05/2026 22:10

@PenelopePitstopPersists didnt realise you could pay annually for the peloton subscription (I do have the bike) I’ve been paying around &45 a month!
Hope things calm down for you, and fingers crossed that helps the last 7lbs shift.

whoops, thought I’d hit ‘post’ on the below I’d written earlier!

@Thelittlestranger i used to enjoy Pilates on a Sunday. I tried a yoga/pilates class on my peloton app the other day and I did not enjoy it and it brought back a pelvic pain not experienced since I had SPD in my pregnancy. So likely I should only do under supervision of a live instructor! I do think my posture needs improvement, my default is to lean forward and my mum used to constantly correct me ‘stand up straight’ as I would lean forward from my hips, so i was always told to stop sticking my bum out and push my hips forward. I’m wondering if all this time, it’s my hypermobility is why my centre of balance is a little bit off - as opposed to a moral failing on good posture.

@Jins I’m the opposite with size 7-8 feet! Always wanted dainty little feet, my mum’s a size 5 and I could wear her shoes when I was 10.

@HeidiLite my trainer filmed me on the lat pulldown machine and I got to see my back muscles today! So cool! Sounds like you had fun at the expo.

And on that note @Zempy i do recommend a gym trial somewhere with friendly instructors? Well done for doing your exercises today.

Thelittlestranger · 30/05/2026 22:55

Sounds like you could potentially have a slightly lordotic posture @DGmaintaining - totally normal. We all are different. I would say that Pilates should be done with supervision to make sure you are doing it safely, and doing what is best suited for your posture...also, so you know what you are supposed to be feeling when you do a movement. It could be different for everyone, dependent on their posture, body, age etc!! And yes @Polkadotdash it can be pricey, so it's a good point that it's not accessible for everyone.

Polkadotdash · 30/05/2026 22:58

@Zempy ah stop being a swot, doing your exercise! I need someone in my refusenik corner with our knackered bones and weak arms!! 😂

Jins · 31/05/2026 06:05

I’m already in the corner @Polkadotdash. Did you not spot me? I’m hiding behind the coats in case I’m spotted and forced to go for a run.

I absolutely hate any activity that could be described as formal exercise which stems from school PE lessons. The only exception is swimming which I love but I don’t do it anywhere near as much as I should nowadays. If I had my own pool I’d be in it more than I was out of it. I don’t mind the cross trainer that I picked up free and I quite enjoyed using the lazy fit app which was chair based but it’s all very half hearted and I will never enjoy it. Gyms are too peopley for me and as any spare cash is needed for MJ I can’t afford it anyway. I could never do any sort of class as I don’t like people much and I’m very resistant to being told what to do. I’m pretty sure I have mild PTSD from school days. Thanks for that Mrs G!

In more positive news my holiday weight is dropping off and I’m now starting to look forward to the next one. Also the wonderskin stuff stayed put all day so that’s a win.

Zempy · 31/05/2026 07:24

Well the good news is, consultant has banned me from doing any exercise other than my prescribed ones. Absolutely no yoga, no Pilates. Swimming is super dangerous due to hip dysplasia. So it really is just the same exercises every day.

For fucking ever!!!

HeidiLite · 31/05/2026 07:48

I hear you about school PE. Traumatised. I still have nighmares about the vault jumps and getting the ball in my face in volleyball, I was utterly useless in every sport. (weirdly my own children were born athletic and looooove the PE days).
But we never really learned anything either. It was nothing about how you can get better, it was just go and do it. So you just keep running the same distance, same speed, hating every minute - honestly, why?
I only started doing sports in my mid-late 20s and turned out I was actually quite good at some activities. And I started with actual heavy weights last year - the difference that has made is frankly unbelievable.

OP posts:
PenelopePitstopPersists · 31/05/2026 08:01

@DGmaintaining I think there are different levels in f the peloton subscription. I just have the basic AppOne. I did try a more expensive one when I bought a peloton camera but didn’t think it made £30 odd quid a month difference to what I did.

I mostly do Yin Yoga or targeted Yoga on it. I actually prefer doing Yin at home, otherwise after a really relaxing session I have to get in the car and drive home which I always thinks 💣I it up.

I was reading magazines in the hairdressers yesterday, not sure if it was vogue or harpers bazaar, I usually flick through them and 👀👀👀 at the prices. Anyway there were a couple of really interesting articles. One was on fascia and tightness and what you could do to improve it. Yin Yoga and a Therabody wave roller were the recommendations. I’m tempted by a new foam roller 😅, for years I’ve been told that the reason my body hurts is fascia related from years of intense exercise and the odd injury. My upper body is so tight that my skin hurts if you were to touch it - decades of team rowing and falling off horses.

Has anyone tried anything like this?

WaveRoller | Vibrating Roller for Sore Muscles

WaveRoller combines foam rolling and vibration to reduce muscle soreness, ease tension, improve mobility and deliver deep relief for faster recovery.

HeidiLite · 31/05/2026 12:13

I have a traditional foam roller I sometimes use, also a massage gadget that's really nice, the type that goes around your neck. And a vibration plate, really good for tired legs. I think the vibrating roll could actually be useful, yes.
