BMI under 27 - Off Label/less to lose

ritala · 29/03/2026 12:17

I am mid 40’s and just can’t lose the weight like I used to. I’m fed up of losing and gaming the same two pounds. I’m about a stone and a half more than my happy weight (where I would be approx bmi 23).

I have tried to find a thread for people who have been approved ‘off label’ Wegovy or Mounjaro with less to lose but couldn’t find one, so thought I’d start here. I have a BMI higher than 25 but less than 27 with a couple extra health conditions. Hoping to start after Easter. I’d like to stay with a very low dose if possible. Half a pound a week loss would be good for me. I really want to avoided side effects.

Anyone who is in a similar boat and wants to share experiences or ask questions, please join! X

@Beachforever yes it will likely improve. There’s no rush to move up, just follow your own experience.

Suppression for most people reduces so they move up a dose. Remember it’s easier to eat little and often rather than larger meals.

Thanks, I hope it does improve otherwise I’m going to have to stop completely.

I think I’m going to push back my next dose by a few days to get some nutrients back in me.

NinthBestOption · 05/05/2026 09:01

@Beachforever that sounds harsh, you obviously respond well. I'm on wegovy only a day or so behind you and really not noticing much but suspect there is something because I'm doing well at dieting.

Wegovy is less effective than MJ so you could consider swapping if you can't continue as you are.

Hope delaying the dose works for you.

Wk 2 day 7, nothing new with me.

Thought I'd mention what I'm doing to track intake and try to avoid gallstones.

I cba with properly measuring everything but have set up a chatgpt journal, told it to estimate calories, protein, fibre, water and track through the day. It also monitors my daily weight comparing to start and 7 days ago.

Working really well, I usually use the microphone so it takes seconds to say what I've eaten.

Also gallstones. I've asked it to track when my gallbladder will have a significant contraction. So if I haven't eaten enough fat in a single meal to trigger it a few times a day I get a warning. I dont avoid healthy fats but some of my favourite meals are very low fat so it could be easy to go several meals without enough.

That sounds far easier than using MyFitnessPal which is what I’ve been doing. I only have the free version and it’s tiresome searching for the foods and entering each and everything.

I’ll give ChatGPT a go.

NinthBestOption · 05/05/2026 09:59

I tried using the voy app, it was dreadful.

If it's too hard I won't do it. So I say 'salmon fillet and roasted med veg' and it does its best guess, which tends to be pretty good.

Do you have a history of gallstones? I’m not really concerned about the risks around gallstones etc, being at a much lower weight than most people starting I don’t think the risk is as pertinent.

Softpebbles · 05/05/2026 14:13

Week 2 day 7. Haven’t weighed for a few days but have been constipated. Food has been ok, but suppression hasn’t been huge so I’ll see what the scales say tomorrow.

I injected into my thigh last week and it bled.

Learningdutch · 05/05/2026 14:43

Week 1 day 1 (Tuesday), first injection done. This will be a good way to record progress, side effects etc.
70kg
Curry tonight which was maybe not a good idea!

RubyTraybake · 05/05/2026 17:58

I did my third jab on Saturday and went up to 3.33mg MJ. Yesterday I had no suppression and I was thinking I would go up to 5 but I had two eggs on a bagel for lunch today and felt so full 30 minutes later and still feel full 6 hours later so not sure I’ll be eating any dinner.

JT1987 · 05/05/2026 19:25

Ladies can I join please 👋🏽 so glad to have found a group like this! I found out about voy prescribing 25+ via Reddit and signed up yesterday, I thought I would just need to send pics and had a wobble
seeing the video call and cancelled. Woke up this morning feeling determined and thought no im
doing this! Im only 5ft 1 and have gained almost 2 stone and I feel the worst I’ve ever felt. I’ve also got into the usual mid week wine drinking habits that I really want to kick and thought this would help from
what I’ve read. I did my call today and it was great, it’s been approved however the kicker is because I cancelled I have to join a 3-6 month plan. I’m about to submit my order and was originally set on MJ but considering wegovy as so much cheaper! How’s everyone doing on them? Does wegovy really suppress the food noise well?

OnTheTop · 05/05/2026 19:54

@JT1987I’m on Wegovy (week 3 at 0.25) and I’m finding it’s working really well for me.

@LearningdutchI’m logging my jab dates, weight loss and side effects on a free app called Glapp. I’d really recommend it.

Oh wow 3.33 on your third jab, is there a reason you’re jumping so quickly, are you not feeling it much? My first jab to 3.75 after 2 months of 2.5 knocked me sideways lol!

kljdhs877 · 05/05/2026 20:06

@JT1987 I was keen to get on MJ for the anti inflammatory effects, I’m hurtling towards perimenopause so there’s a part of me hoping MJ is like HRT in that if I get on it soon enough I can delay or even prevent the middle age spread 🤣 I wasn’t too worried about the cost so was happy to just go for the one with the higher reputation, that said, I suppose it makes sense to try WeGovy first and see how you go!

I’ve ended up going for MJ but I think I’m going to microdose as I’m petrified of SE! I’ve heard wegovy is really good on inflammation at small doses too. How have you found it so far?

Learningdutch · 05/05/2026 20:22

@OnTheTop the only app called Glapp I can find is a financial ledger! I have an android phone. It's a good idea and there are lots to choose from though a recommendation is better!

I’ve lost 17lb in 15 weeks with 0 effort (which was ahout 15% of my body weight), I’ve been a bit naughty and not done any calorie counting or lifestyle changing lol, I just found it a bit too easy not to tbh, I had a holiday that was the focus, and when I get back (as I am only 3lb from target now) the good intentions will set in. I have struggled with SE, but manageable. I could have done smaller doses if I was more patient.

Planning on staying on it.

Beachforever · 05/05/2026 20:25

@JT1987 I’ve been microdosing MJ for the past 2 weeks and not had any terrible side effects. No tummy upset, insomnia, itching or anything like that.

I did 0.5mg first week, 1mg 2nd week and due to do 1mg this week.

I have reduced inflammation, had a much easier period, and have lost 2kg. The suppression has been very strong though which is preventing me from eating enough to sustain my body. So I’m going to space out the jabs a little longer than a week.

Greenfingers37 · 05/05/2026 20:28

I’ve ordered my first MJ pen (2.5mg) and plan to start it next week. Terrified about side effects and how it might affect me at work! Should I start on a smaller dose?

This is great and made me feel much better as I’m an anxious mess at the thought of starting! I think I’ve read through the thread have you gone with healand? They were my next option if Voy wouldn’t approve as my BMI was just over 25. Do you have much you want to lose?

I was on MJ until the end of Jan and stopped on a dose of 7.5mg so I’ve only had a 2.5 month break. Last time I did a month a 2.5, six weeks at 5 and only felt suppression at 7.5 mg so assumed I would need to get back up to those levels again for it to work for me. Very jealous of people of have suppression on lower doses, it would have been so much cheaper for me 😂

It is so strange how different people feel differently on it. There doesn’t seem to be any pattern to it!

Yes, healand. I only want to lose about a stone, so 6.5kg.

If I keep going at this rate then it should take 6 weeks in total which would be amazing. I’ll then drop down to a tiny dose to see how I go and then possibly stop completely.

But if this easier period thing keeps happening then I’ll stay on it until I’m post menopause as that’s worth the £200 per month alone!

Amazing! So nice to hear positive experiences and also that 0.5 has worked with some suppression for you. I think everyone reacts so diffidently but I’m hoping I’ll be a super responder on a low dose! 🙏🏽
