Does anyone use a pen for 2 months

ADHDdiagnosis · 22/03/2026 14:36

Hello, I’m hoping to use my 3 pens for two months each minimum because they are high dose and I am now tapering down. They are so expensive I do not want to throw away but can anyone tell me if they have done this?
I know there is sometimes a lot of criticism when suggesting not following guidelines but I’ll take the chance and ask

Yep- absolutely fine here.

perimenopoppet · 22/03/2026 15:11

I started off as a rule follower, then stretched a little, then after the price hike a lot. In my personal experience it’s been fine. Strict hygiene, refrigeration and a good grasp of maths so I know exactly what I am taking. I’ve gone over 3 months now as tapering down using higher strength pens from August stockpile. Not recommending but can confirm it’s been fine for me. No adverse reactions or change in efficacy.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 22/03/2026 15:12

It's also been fine for me.

MeandBobbyMcGoo · 22/03/2026 15:18

Also do this, works fine for me.

Woo383040 · 22/03/2026 15:31

I do. I started as a strict rule follower and could cry over the amount I chucked away, because early days I couldn’t tolerate a full dose. But now I’m making a 7.5 pen last 8 doses. I’m scrupulous about hygiene and always store it in the fridge, but It’s all been fine.

DottyMcDiet · 22/03/2026 15:32

I am, I’ve been on MJ for nearly a year now.

OneThirdLess · 22/03/2026 15:39

I have used pens up to 8 weeks and been fine, no reduction in efficacy. I can't stand waste and am a mean old coot so used everything!

I know how to calculate my dose, the pens live in the fridge and I'm careful with hygiene - but that's just the same as if you were only using it for a month - if you're stabbing something into your body, you need to be hygienic!

MotherTuckinGenius · 22/03/2026 15:47

Absolutely! They cost so much and the higher strength pens work out more affordable with micro dosing. As others have already said, strict hygiene and keeping pens properly refrigerated is an absolute must.

OneThirdLess · 22/03/2026 15:51

It's also worth mentioning that UK is strict in following the guidelines, there are plenty of countries in the world where a pen is prescribed by doctors to last 2-3 months (so there are plenty of medical professionals who deem it to be safe).

Springbaby2023 · 22/03/2026 15:52

I’ve not done this so far but am planning to for the first time with my new pen. I just can’t justify such a high price anymore.

Zempy · 22/03/2026 16:00

I am dosing 5mg every 7 days from a 15mg pen in maintenance.

Pens live in the fridge 24/7 and I use wipes carefully. No issues at all so far.

Really?
Where do they do that?

morbidcuriosity · 22/03/2026 17:31

I've used one for 10 weeks, and plan on doing it again soon.
I would do more too.
I would always keep it in the fridge though.

Australia & South Africa are two I can immediately remember.

PearlsTeapot · 22/03/2026 18:45

I do, I take 5mg from a 7.5 pen. I keep it in the fridge and use a lot of wipes. Not noticed any difference in effectiveness or anything.

Yes why not. I ask AI to calculate the dose for me and use an insulin syringe because I'm crap at maths.

SilenceInside · 22/03/2026 20:29

Don’t use AI to work out something as important as dosage. They are not reliable and prone to making up nonsense, and depend on the way you phrase a question and then refine it.

The maths is very basic to work out the dose you want in ml, for use in a syringe. It’s just the dose you want in mg divided by the pen strength in mg, multiplied by 0.6.

(dose you want in mg / pen strength in mg) x 0.6

ADHDdiagnosis · 22/03/2026 21:49

Thank you so much everyone. I’m reassured to hear that others do the same. I do always keep the pens in the fridge and use sterile needles etc.

Yes I do. Been on MJ for nearly 2 years and just can’t afford monthly pens so I stretch mine out. I have a feeling though that the last dose on week 8 isn’t as effective.

notnorman · 23/03/2026 09:04

Ive always done it, despite the hysteria on here at times!

I’m aiming for 15 weeks per pen if I can. I wonder if the top was wrapped in cling film would that help with any degradation. If sealed over the seal as it were.

PearlsTeapot · 23/03/2026 18:29

No need for that, the lid will do fine.

The issue you may have with that is the provider will want to know why you haven’t ordered a pen for so long and will want you to start at the lowest dose again or they may just refuse to supply you the pen at all.

People say this but in my experience that's just not the case. I track all my health issues with ChatGPT including my Mounjaro and it never gets it wrong. I am using 5.4 paid version so maybe that makes a difference but really the idea that ChatGPT is constantly making things up isn't correct. It's also pretty basic maths so quite hard to get wrong.
