How long are you staying on maintenance after reaching goal?

I’ve been on maintenance for two months. I’m going to stay on maintenance another four to get used to eating at maintenance calories and really embed the exercise routine then attempt to titrate down and come off… I hop3

just wondered how many people are staying on maintenance for a while or just coming off when reaching goal.

one thing I am sort of worried about, the dose I’m on isn’t working as effectively, it is but I can def eat more so exerting more self control, but don’t really want to move up to a higher dose in maintenance! Guess it’s good practice for coming off…

I had a stash so haven't had to purchase mj since last August. Have 3 unopened 10mg pens left. I will take the last 7.5mg from my current 12.5mg pen, then drop to 5mg for at least the next pen, maybe two.
I got to goal at the end of Jan and will be on maintenance for the rest if this year until the pens run out.
I am on a maintenance plan though in case i need to order again because i read somewhere it takes at least 2 years to reset your 'set point' but i don't know how true that really is

Mysticmaiden · 19/03/2026 20:29

I've been tapering down from 15mg from September when I hit bmi 25.0. I'm now bmi 22.0 and about to start 5mg. I did switch to wegovy but it didn't control my carb cravings or inflammation and I was bloated and in pain. This told me I may need to stay on a maintenance dose because of my previous mild diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
Went back to mj 7.5mg just over a month ago, this week down to 6mg and going to 5mg on Saturday. Still struggling to eat and have suppression all week. Ive just bought 2x 10mg pens to do 5mg doses and will maintain for at least 6 months possibly.

I plan to stay on for life. I’m almost at goal and will titrate down to a maintenance dose for me and stay on for ever. It’s been life changing and I don’t plan to ever go back to how I felt before mj.

ShrankLastWinter · 19/03/2026 21:12

I hope to stay on it ‘forever’, whatever that means. Certainly some years.

Fatmumslim01 · 19/03/2026 21:38

I'm hoping to stay on "for life". Mounjaro has done in a year what I tried to do for over 20 years.

I'm on 12.5mg and 61 pound down, would still like to lose a few more stones to get to a healthy bmi

Zempy · 19/03/2026 21:43

I have a years stash but have a maintenance call booked with Oushk.

I don’t intend to come off at all really. It’s transformed my life.

morbidcuriosity · 19/03/2026 22:46

For as long as I can afford it.

IsItSnowing · 20/03/2026 09:36

At the moment, I plan on staying on it indefinitely. It's in my budget and hopefully I will continue to be able to afford it.
I'm not actually at maintenance yet as I still have half a stone to lose but I don't see how I can ever come off it. Hopefully, I can titrate down to a much lower dose, currently on 12.5mg.
I've read about the 2 year thing too and hope that is true. I may give it a go at coming off it at some point after that and see how it goes. But I'll be keeping the option open to restart if needed.

RoseField1 · 20/03/2026 09:39

I've been maintaining for about 6 months.
I am reducing the dose but slowly. I will keep reducing and monitor my weight weekly and see how low I can get it whilst maintaining. I am hoping to get to zero! But I'm not expecting that, at least for a long time.

What’s the two year thing?

They say that the body adjusts after 2 years so it becomes the new normal. So it should become easier to maintain.

steinwayto · 20/03/2026 13:26

I’m not gonna planning to come off it at all, it’s been so absolutely life changing for me that if I can stay in it for life I will.

Woo383040 · 20/03/2026 14:53

I’m a potential lifer too. I think I’ve found my maintenance which seems to be around 4mg. I certainly get some hunger and food noise on days 6-7. Why is it I can ignore the hunger, but the food noise is so much harder? I might try coming off after 2 years of maintenance to see if the set point theory works for me.

NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 20/03/2026 15:26

For life!
I listened to The Hunger Game podcast last week, and am more convinced than ever that for some of us this is a lifelong drug.
When the tablet versions come on line they will be far cheaper, as there will be no need for cold storage and costly drug delivery mechanisms.

I have been experimenting with dosage since I hit maintenance a few months ago. I can maintain with 2.5mg doses, but when I went on a holiday and put on 1 kg, it took going back up to 5mg for two weeks to bring that down again. I am wondering about the long term health implications of staying on it, even if only on the lowest dose. I don't have any side effects which makes it easy to stay on it, and I can afford 2.5 doses from a 5mg pen - which lasts over two months with the golden dose. I only ever went up to 5mg. Does any one have any research they've read on long term use and health implications that they can share, please?

It would be hard for anyone to give a true long term experience given the relatively short amount of time MJ has been available for weight loss.

Goinghome2late · 20/03/2026 16:15

I will be on it for the.rest of my life. Went up to 10mg to reach goal last Sept.
Been on 7.5mg for 7 months and only slowly put on 5lbs in that time.

Just gone back up to 10mg this month to lose the 5lb then I.will be back on 7.5mg as its definitely my maintenance dose.

It just works for me. I am happy, finally, at 58 and at my age having spent my entire life worrying about my weight, I do not have the time or inclination to give it anymore brain time.

I am happy to pay for my peace of mind and a healthy body.

Shitzngiggles · 20/03/2026 16:19

I fully intend to stay on for life. I'm 63 now and I've had too many years yoyo dieting, so this really is a dream come true for me. Just knowing I'll never be fat and unhealthy again is just mind blowing. I don't need blood pressure meds for the first time in 20 years, inflammation has gone meaning no more painful knees and hands, along with all the other health benefits of no longer being obese. Add to that I can finally wear clothes that I want to wear not clothes I have to wear. Also happy to have photos of me again.

Buscake · 20/03/2026 16:20

I came down 2.5mg per month until I did my last jab two weeks ago. Each month I found the first two weeks of the new dosage hard with wanting to eat and that’s been the same this month now on nothing. But I’m so mindful of what I do eat, I have transformed my relationship with food while I lot weight - I exercise a HUGE amount! So I’ve just been tracking v carefully, but have increased my calories to account for the extra exercise. As it stands, I’ve been at 63kg for about 5months now and aim to keep eating well, keeping an eye on my weight and will always consider going back on if needed. I’m using the money I would have spent on jabs for PT and am
excited to get strong 😁

cupfinalchaos · 20/03/2026 16:36

I’ve been on lowest dose for a month and have reached my target (under a stone lost). I’m going to stabilise my weight on maintenance or I’m sure it will spring back up in no time. I’ll just extend from every week to every 10 days, then every two weeks and see how I go.

Wildgoat · 20/03/2026 17:22

I’m also indefinitely. If I wanted to use it to stick to embed new habits and come off, then it would be two years. It’s not going to be ingrained or even close after a few months, doesn’t mean it’s not possible, just it will be very hard work.
