So I’ve got my first MJ package sat in my living room and I’m petrified of starting. I have quite severe health anxiety and the thought of something going wrong or feeling poorly on the medication knowing it’s in your system all week is making me panic.

for those who have had side effects how long did they last? How diabiliting were they? How does it feel when you’re on the medication? I’m so sensitive to my body feeling different due to my health anxiety I’m just looking for a range of experiences

Isn’t this just going to feed into your anxieties though, as people respond with how they felt and any side effects they may have had?

How do you normally manage your health anxiety - what strategies do you use to get out of the anxiety loop?

NoTouch · 16/03/2026 19:21

One step at a time. Open the package you need to put the medication in the fridge. Open the medication box, have a look at the pen, check liquid is clear. Take out two leaflets from the box and put med in fridge.

Knowledge is power. Read the leaflets so you know what to expect. Then put them away and let the info sink in until you feel ready.

That’s good advice above. I feel for you, I have health anxiety and my first pen sat in the fridge for weeks. Now I only regret not starting it sooner.

I had no side effects like most people except constipation which I’m used to now.

Good luck xx

It doesn’t matter how anyone else feels because you cannot predict how you will feel. No amount of research or rumination will change that.

Bodies are all different. My body didn’t experience a single negative side effect while my sibling (genetically similar) had severe side effects.

Nobody is making you take the medication. It is not a threat. You are in control. You are making the choices here.

I have had two jabs now and not really had any negatives. The food noise has really dropped and I've lost 5lb. Try not to think too long. If you do have any side effects it is only a mild dose so shouldn't be too bad.

What severe side effects did she have? I like to be prepared for worse possible outcomes

I felt like you but was quite depressed and felt I would rather be dead than feel how I did so I jabbed my first dose and waited…

16 months later, not side effects, over 8 stone lost. Life has absolutely changed in ways I cannot begin to describe. Stayed on 2.5mg for the majority.

Nanda66 · 16/03/2026 19:48

I felt like you. It took me a few days to pluck up courage. I had absolutely no side effects except a bit of blurred vision the day after the first 2 jabs. Seven months in I’ve had no side effects since, none at all. I haven’t regretted it for a second. One of the best things I’ve ever done.

dizzyupthegirl86 · 16/03/2026 20:31

I think everyone goes into it with some trepidation, but you’re familiar with worst case scenarios - the most likely worst case is you feel rough on it and you stop taking it.
you’ve lost £100 or so but you’ve tried it.

side effects to begin with are likely to be subtle and/or short lived, I personally had some tender skin on my face (a bit sunburn like) for two days on my first week, and then for about three weeks, I felt a bit under the weather for a day after taking it. Nothing awful, just like the start of a light cold - but 24 hours later I was fine.

Wht not focus on the poster's comment that she had no side effects? You won't be any better prepared for knowing the worst possible outcome.

Tammy214 · 17/03/2026 09:00

technically its in your system for a month, not just a week. there is no way to guarentee you wont have side effects, because most people do at some time but you cant predict when and how severe. most here seem not to have too bad effects and they are temporary, some have them at the start and soem have none until a specific dosage. its a risk but every medication is a risk, it depends on the benefit you could get from it.
i had hardly any side effects until 7.5 and it was initially hard, on my 2nd round of 7.5 and finally its settling down, however at no point did i want to stop, i knew i had to get through it for the benefits.

Wildgoat · 17/03/2026 09:07

80 percent of people have no side effects, and those who do it’s usually mild gastro stuff, and ensuring you eat a clean and healthy diet it mitigates to a certain extent.

look, you wanted this for a reason. You must be obese. Obesity is the leading cause of cancer, 11 different types. And that’s before all the other health issues, diabetes, heart disease, etc

so if you’ve health anxiety i would focus it on the fact you’ve the disease of obesity, and it is nearly always life limiting or ending , so getting the meds in you and getting to a healthy weight is a huge health improvement.

MeridaBrave · 17/03/2026 09:18

At least get it into the fridge!! My advice would be to do a week at half the starting dose to see if any side effects, eg 30 clicks not 60.

My advice would be not to waste your money doing this. It’s expensive enough and might not have any effect at half the starting dose.

Yes, it may not help. But for someone nervous about side effects it might help them get started.

WappityWabbit · 17/03/2026 10:38

Best way to tackle the fear is to power through and get on with it.

Feeding into your anxieties won’t reduce them but will make them seem even scarier when in reality, the side effects (if any) are generally very manageable and virtually nonexistent by the 3rd dose.

If your anxiety is very bad, book some hypnosis sessions before starting your weight loss journey.
