Food noise back on 5mg Mounjaro: move up to 7.5mg?

ArtfulRedhead · 13/03/2026 21:59

I’ve been on mounjaro for the last 6 months. I did 2.5mg for 2 months and have been on 5mg for the last 4 months.

My main reason for using MJ is to turn off the food noise more than anything else, I just need help turning the food noise off to enable me to then lose weight through calorie counting.

it was working brilliantly and I had no food noise for a while and was completely off any type of sugary food which is a huge deal for me as I’m a big sweet tooth.

the last 2 weeks though the food noise has come back with a vengeance and I’m just wanting sugary junk food all the time and obsessing over it.

I'm considering moving up to 7.5mg as I’m guessing my body is just too used to 5mg now and the effects aren’t as strong.. but I’m worried about moving up.

my clinician has advised moving up but it’s the side effects that concern me.

I’ve read a lot of people experiencing really bad diarrhea on 7.5mg and I don’t want something like that taking over my life. I haven’t had any side effects on 2.5mg or 5mg apart from tiredness.

any advice?

You could choose to go up a little to a dose like 5.5 or 6. Your prescriber won't be able to recommend this as they have to go with the doses in the clinical trial I think.

If you have a UK quick pen with 60 clicks as the full dose you can count the clicks for a partial dose.

If you buy a 7.5 ml pen then you can do 7.5 divided by 60 to find the medication in one click then I use estimating on the calculator to find my number of clicks.

E.g. 7.5 / 60 = 0.125 (dose in 1 click)
X 40 clicks = 5ml
X 50 clicks = 6.25

Remember that the half life of the drug will mean the drug is stronger the second and third week's etc so even if you are fine the first week (taking 6mg for example) the second week on 6 your blood levels will be a little higher and the third a little higher. I think that is why they recommend that you do at least 4 weeks on a dose before moving up.

Where are you reading thay then?

with mounjaro you move up to your optimal dose. And then stay there, it’s the dose below the one you can’t tolerate. You know when you’re on it though, as it is 24/7 and doesn’t wear off, for me it was 10, foe others it was 5. I think a lot of people really try to make it work at lower doses for cost, others it genuinely works. You’re not someone who it works for optimally at 5mg.

as long as you eat a clean diet there is no reason you should be unwell at 7.5, 80 percent of people have no side effects at all on the drug.

7.5mg was my magic dose! I was on it for around seven months and lost the majority of my weight on it. No side effects whatsoever. I moved back down to 5mg to maintain.
You could always try moving up gradually. Do 6.25mg this week and then 7.5mg the next.

For every one person reporting problems there will be 99 saying nothing because they have no problem.

I also think some people like to recount their “horror stories” and seem to enjoy putting others off because misery loves company.

Plus there is so much nastiness and resentment around wli that I think some are trolls making up crap.

Move up, you clearly need to.

From the five people I know in real life, plus myself, none of us have had any side effects at all except occasional mild constipation and we have all gone right up to 15mg.

Crack on, don’t let fear hold you back.

If, and I say if, you get any side effects they are likely to be transitory (and of course you could always drop back down) but I suspect that as you have tolerated 2.5 and 5mg fine and have been on mounjaro for quite a long time now you will be fine.

PS I am a retired nurse if that helps at all.

In terms of percentage, the biggest jump is from 2.5 to 5 and you've done that with no issues. Chances are you'll be absolutely fine on 7.5.

Mysticmaiden · 14/03/2026 08:44

I've been all the way upto 15mg and only had diarrhoea twice and both times it was when I ate pizza at 10mg amd 12.5mg but it was days 5 or 6 so far from when i jabbed. the dose doesn't matter its the food type that affects people especially higher fatty foods. Since I've tapered down I've had pizza a few times and been fine, so I can only assume it was because I was earlier on in my journey and maybe a lot bigger.

its reassuring to know it worked for you ☺️ how many clicks from a 5mg pen would get me the additional 1.25mg to make it 6.25mg in total? X

Thank you that’s really reassuring. I think I’ll definitely try 7.5mg on Monday, which is jab day, and hope for the best! X

It’s 8 clicks per 1mg on a 7.5mg pen.
So if you want to take 6.25mg, that’s 50 clicks.

(I’ve been going up in 0.5mg increments.)

FrenchBunionSoup · 14/03/2026 09:38

If you're nervous about the jump up, you could always do 48 clicks from a 7.5mg to get 5 doses of 6mg instead of 4 doses of 7.5mg?

I've done the equivalent with a 5mg to get 5 doses of 4mg and it works well for me.

Edited

I’ve still got 3 doses left in my 5mg pen so I was going to use that up first, so wondered how many clicks to do if I wanted to try 6.25mg from it

An extra 15 clicks would give you 6.25 from your 5 pen, although I think I would bite the bullet and go up to 7.5,chances are you'll be fine, like a PP said people love to recount horror stories, they're actually not very common, and transitory, I've had constipation and a bit of nausea, vomited violently twice due to eating a big unsuitable meal after injecting, just keep to your diet and you'll most likely be fine.
