Do you still drink alcohol?

I only really drink on Fridays and Saturdays, I have found the jab has reduced my urge to drink (or it reduces how much I’d normally have, often only having a small glass of wine with my meal).

But I’m finding myself being really intolerant of alcohol, I’m only on 2.5mg and have been on it 2 months now and on Saturday I had 3 cocktails over a 5 hour period, first with a meal (more than I would usually have on a normal weekend, but can normally drink more than that without the jab without getting ill!) and I suddenly felt very unwell, it scared me actually because it came on so suddenly, got the shakes, was sick, awful night sleep. But actually felt fine the next day, no hang over.

Anyway it’s obviously not a hardship to stop and the saved calories will only help weight loss, but we have an all inclusive holiday coming up that I’ve spent a huge sum on the beverage package and now I’m thinking I won’t be able to drink.

Just curious for those who have still drank a bit on the jab what your experience has been?

So the alcohol itself hasn't been an issue for me. I enjoy wine and continue to drink it as I always have. Beer is a different story, not because I feel ill if I drink it, but I just can't drink any volume. One pint and I feel completely bloated. Probably a good thing though!

Tbh I was starting to struggle with alcohol even before the jab, even a small amount the night before would leave me feeling very sick the next day. So I suppose the gap is exacerbating it maybe.

i did expect more of a stoppage on drinks with it, i do drink less on the jabs naturally as i do this thing called sipping.....which often i felt i was gulping 😂In the past making a 175ml glass of wine last 45mins-1 hour was hard work, i tried it at times but on the jabs its easy. However a few glasses is fine, but having a big night out isnt working for me on 7.5 it hits me hard and then the next day is hard. cocktails are occasional for me, i did hear that clear spirits are meant to be more tolorated though so perhaps experiment before you go to see if thats better for you than other beverages.
i do take more suppliments if i know i am going out drinking to help, and seems to ease it

I haven’t had or wanted a glass of wine in over 4 months since starting mounjaro. I used to have a bottle of wine about 4 times a week. Wine noise for me was similar to the food noise I had. Alcohol also then made me make bad food choices - it was easy to pile on the pounds. My liver is thankful, as is my pocket - not drinking has helped to pay for the wli.

I may have a glass once a week, as i am the only wine drinker in the family, I now get a mini bottle/can.

Any more and I don't feel well.

HeidiLite · 04/03/2026 19:11

very rarely now and only socially. Used to drink every Friday and Saturday, at least.

ProfessorMacandCheese · 04/03/2026 19:15

When I went up to 5mg I could only drink 1 glass of wine instead of 2 (we'd normally share a bottle of wine a couple of nights a week). Once I went up to 7.5mg I went off it completely.

Have come back down the doses on maintenance (in fact am doing 2mg every fortnight), so am back to enjoying a single glass 2 or 3 nights a week.

DottyMcDiet · 04/03/2026 19:21

I’d developed very bad drinking habits and was sinking a couple of large glasses a night at least 5 nights a week.

Like a pp my ‘alcohol noise’ was the biggest issue for me.

I now have a small glass a week but can drink more on a social occasion.

Every day.
Only a small.
Just beer.
🍺.

Pre mounjaro I was drinking 3/4 nights a week and felt it probably needed reducing.

Since Mounjaro (started November last year) I’ve just not been that bothered with it. At Christmas I had one cocktail a few days before, 1 glass of wine on Christmas Day and a glass of Prosecco on new year eve.

Ive had one night out where I had 3 glasses of wine a week ago and that was fine; no hangover or anything.

I’ve not drunk any diet carbonated drinks either and it makes me think a lot of my drink intake was about the sugar really.

Now I really mostly drink water and tea and coffee. Not got any cravings either.

Its really nice to know I seem to be able to take it or leave it at the moment.

Thelankyone · 04/03/2026 21:13

Are you sure it was the booze and not the sugar in the cocktail? Maybe both together? Cocktails if overly sugary can make me feel quite dodgy.

im fine drinking otherwise , but I no longer drink at home, you know the bad day at work, let’s open the wine, or the it’s Friday night, let’s have some wine behaviour, I don’t do thst anymore. I drink when im socialising, so on average every fortnight, and I will have prob 3 large glasses of dry white wine max, often 2 and I’m done, I just don’t want anymore.

SparklyTwinkleGlitter · 05/03/2026 12:21

Can you cancel the booze package? Would you like to become a more moderate drinker?

I’m not a drinker so MJ hasn’t really affected me.

CatNoBag · 05/03/2026 15:26

I haven't had a drink since I started on WLI, so I don't know how it would affect me. I wasn't drinking much anyway (DH doesn't drink at all), mostly one or two drinks socially (rare!) or on holiday I'd have a few glasses of wine. I've used the WLI to cut out a few things (sugar/cakes/desserts, UPF and alcohol), and I think it's doing me good. My skin seems to be happier anyway. The main reason for no sugar or booze was that I'd have to remove calories from somewhere to make room for these, which seemed a bit foolish considering how much I'm investing in myself via the jabs. I like a glass of wine now and then, but it wasn't a weekly habit foo me, so not too difficult to cut it out for now.

farfallarocks · 05/03/2026 16:05

The best thing about Monjaro is it killed my nightly wine habit! Was tipping into a problem for me . I now have a couple of glasses when i’m out or at the weekend. Bliss

UsernameShmusername2024 · 07/03/2026 07:44

I've always been a big drinker and this has been one of the massive changes since starting mounjaro - I just don't really want it. I no longer like the taste of any of the drinks I would've previously had.

In terms of tolerance - this has massively changed too. If I do go out and have a few drinks I'm often sick. If I was you I think I'd try to cancel the drinks package and buy them individually, I know for me it just wouldn't be worth it any longer.
