Wegovy vs Mounjaro

After a full year of doing everything right (and then HRT giving me big melons) I’ve decided to try GLPs.

I want to lose around 10kg, and I qualify based on my ethnicity.

Is there anything else to consider? ChatGPT recommends wegovy as I don’t have that much to lose. (So do the online pharmacies)

I don’t have food noise which is one of the reasons I’m not entirely sure it will.

Work for me, but at this stage, why not?

I used mounjaro for 3 months and lost two stone. As soon as I changed to Wegovy I only lost 3 pounds in 3’months. I came off it because I couldn’t justify the cost. I’m just restarted on Mounjaro again because I know it works. I just have no faith in Wegovy.

On average people are more likely to lose more weight and have fewer symptoms on mounjaro which is why they have set their prices higher. But it’s more complicated than that and on an individual level some people lose more weight and have fewer symptoms on wegovy and at the moment no one know which individuals are more likely to have better response from each drug.

You can swap between them with most pharamacies.

GLP1s don’t treat food noise. They mimic hormones in your body that control your appetite and when you feel full. For some people that can mean that “food noise” is removed or dampened, but that’s just a feature of the way the medication is affecting your system. So they will likely work as well for you as they do for everyone else, and they work for the vast majority of people.

Mounjaro is more effective because it mimics two hormones, where Wegovy only mimics one. Mounjaro also used to be cheaper than Wegovy until around September 2025. The price of Mounjaro was increased artificially by political interference by Trump, as he was cross that US patients paid more than UK patients.

I would also consider what your exit strategy might be - taper off the medication or just stop, or if you’re going to continue taking medication longer term for maintenance.

My maintenance strategy is potentially lose enough that I maintain “naturally” or go through cycles every 3-4 years.

i lost 35kg before and have kept 15kg off after a pregnancy.
