Mounjaro not working?

GutsySnake · 01/03/2026 15:22

I'm on week 4 of Mounjaro and about to up the dose to 5mg next week. I've only lost 3lbs and for the price being paid am disappointed at the slow progress. I didn't overeat before starting so it's not made much difference to my normal diet so not a drastic change. I do have Hypothyroidism and am on Levothyroxine although Voy say it shouldn't make any difference if my readings are normal.

It is working - you’ve lost 3lbs.

many don’t lose much on 2.5mg. That’s just a small dose to start getting your body used to it.

I lost the most amount weight once I got to 7.5mg.

it’s not just about overeating you also need to change your diet and exercise to speed up the weight loss

what other changes have you started to make

Nerocostapret · 01/03/2026 15:27

If you are on the correct dose dor
levo, then hypothyroidism won’t have any impact on your weight.

So you haven’t noticed a reduction in your appetite? Take us through what you ate pre injections against what you are
now eating

Notsosweetcaroline · 01/03/2026 15:28

Well you were over eating before you started or you’d not have been obese, so if not much change then that’s why weight loss is slow. You need to diet.

WeAllHaveWings · 01/03/2026 15:34

Sorry if you have already done this, but as you don't mention it - have you calculated your TDEE, deficit and are you tracking your calories - all food and drink?

I am a great believer in "if you don't measure it, you can't manage it", it is important in the beginning to get a good baseline of what eating to your deficit looks like, once you know you can stop tracking until you stall.

Under estimating the calories in what we are eating and/or over estimating what we are expending is what got us all obese in the first place.

If you later hit a stall recalculate your TDEE and deficit then go through a period of tracking again to see where it is going wrong.

2.5 mg is not supposed to be a theraputic dose for most people but you’ve lost weight so it is working for you. It’s not magic so you have to eat fewer calories if you want to lose weight.

LovesLabradors · 01/03/2026 18:36

If you're eating the same as before, I would imagine weight loss will be slower. I think the people who lose weight quickly have v strong appetite suppression and so eat vastly fewer calories.
I would see how it goes as you increase the doses.

Chopsy123 · 01/03/2026 19:51

Have you changed your eating habits to eat mainly high protein/low carb meals and cut out snacking?

Do you have any appetite suppression at all?

You don’t have to move up the doses every month if it’s still working at a lower dose but some people don’t feel much suppression until they go up to 5mg or even 7.5mg. I’m still on 3mg after 6 months and losing about a lb a week which suits me.

Bigender · 12/03/2026 11:41

Thank you for your responses. I was never obese just wanted to lose about a stone. I'm on 5mg now and weight loss is increasing. I need to lose another 5 lbs. As mentioned previously I eat little, hard swimming twice a week, walking as often as I can. I'll keep going thank you

LameImpala · 12/03/2026 12:07

I lost about 8lb in 6 months, my provider offered me discounts on the higher doses. I started losing significantly on 15mg.
If you aren’t obese and don’t overeat then I can’t see you’re going to lose a huge amount of weight tbh.

How did you even get it if you only need to lose a stone

Icanthinkformyselfthanks · 12/03/2026 12:53

@GutsySnake , your TSH reading can be in the ‘normal’ range but your thyroid function can still be sub optimal. I would suggest you take a look at the Health Unlocked forum for hypothyroidism.
2.5 mg of Mounjaro is not considered a therapeutic dose and the effects of the drug are cumulative. Go up to 5mg, you have lost some weight so it is working.
Some people lose very quickly and my observation is that often those people also suffer the worst side effects. Some of us have to accept that our journey will be a long one and try not to be too frustrated when the fast losers share their amazing losses, I had weeks where for no apparent reason I gained weight, very frustrating. I went from a BMI of 35 to 20.5 and am now coming back down the doses and trying to maintain. I too have hypothyroidism I also believe I had sub clinical insulin resistance which Mounjaro is magnificent for.
Mounjaro isn’t just an appetite suppressant it has profound impacts on our metabolisms and its powerful effects on inflammation in our bodies and the positive implications for many diseases are emerging every day. I don’t ever plan to stop taking it.

undercats · 12/03/2026 13:37

You need to make the changes to your diet though, MJ won’t do that for you. A calorie deficit is how you lose weight. MJ will help you manage that but you have to put in the work and create that plan.

MeridaBrave · 12/03/2026 13:42

If you aren’t eating much less then it’s not a surprise you haven’t lost much.

SexyFrenchDepression · 13/03/2026 11:46

You need to track calories and ensure you are actually in a decent deficit, you must have been eating more than you should be before. Maintenance calories are surprisingly low. Mine are 1400 so I am looking at 1000 max to lose a reasonable amount of weight.

WLIs dont magically get rid of fat, they just help you feel more full/surpress your appetite.

If you weren't losing weight before MJ and you are not eating each much different now then you wont lose weight.

Bigender · 14/03/2026 12:18

Thank you for all your comments. However, I have had to cease the Mounjaro as I experienced bleeding in my stomach and I'm still bleeding from my rectum. Obviously doesn't agree with me but don't let that put anyone off as it's not a known side effect. I've also had the results from a bloodtest that my Thyroid t3 levels are very low so I've been referred to an Endocronolgist so maybe in future I can lose weight naturally as my metabolism will be working correctly.

Cherubneddy · 14/03/2026 12:34

Why on earth were you taking it if you weren’t obese and only had a stone to lose?? Presumably you lied to get it, or got it from an unregulated source. Unsurprising you became poorly, none of the safeguards were in place. Sorry, but you’re vain and stupid.
