Needle tips for microdosing

Nellodee · 28/02/2026 14:35

I’m currently taking a lower dose from my pen, meaning it is lasting more than the four weeks. I’ve ordered syringes before, but would like to order needle tips this time. Does anyone know what I should be looking for, please? I would like to buy something very similar to the tips that come with the pen.

the are called pen needles and are a universal fit, you can google the ones you currently use and purchase the same. Unlike syringes, boxes of pen needles are ok to buy from Amazon.

Thank you both, that’s really useful.

My prescriber sells 10 spare tips for £1 have you checked with yours?

aniloD · 28/02/2026 16:33

You can buy them in Boots

Funkysparrowdotcom · 28/02/2026 16:34

@Mysticmaiden is it just because you are prescribed with them that they'll sell you 10 or can anybody buy 10 from them? and if so who from please, I don't particularly want to buy 100.

It's when placing an order for a pen, you can place an order for tips too but you will be paying 4.99 delivery so it wouldn't be cost effective to order 10 when you can get a box of 100 for similar possibly. I'm with Oushk and they have option of different size needle tips like 6mm and 8mm. They usually send out packs of 6 x 4mm per pen so there are always plenty spare. Other prescribers also sell them, check with yours first. Also try Boots and Asda or a local pharmacy, I've heard they sell them for cheap. You could say your needle was blocked so need extras and take your pen as proof.

Funkysparrowdotcom · 28/02/2026 18:01

@Mysticmaiden OK yes I see what you mean,

Funkysparrowdotcom · 28/02/2026 18:03

@aniloD so have you just gone in boots and asked for needle tips and been sold them?

jomaIone · 28/02/2026 19:16

It's unlikely you could buy them from a pharmacy with no proof of why you need them. Especially if you're using them to inject medication in a way that is not licensed or prescribed

Not true, they’re universally available. I got a box of 100 from Chemist4U, no proof of medication necessary.

Yes. Went into Boots, asked for them. Took a while to find the price as they normally supply them with insulin prescriptions. There is no restriction on them. Got a hundred for less than a tenner

Funkysparrowdotcom · 01/03/2026 16:47

@aniloD I only want a few though, not 100, I have 1 pen lurking in the fridge, but have used up the tips supplied with it by subdosing, might just use a syringe.

I think you could buy 10 at a time but 10 was more than half the price of 100 and as my daughter and I are both using small doses from 15mg pens. We split them between us.
You still need either syringes with separate needles or insulin syringes with attached needles for the 'unclickable' last dose in the pen though, so if it's not a regular thing that's fine too.

Funkysparrowdotcom · 01/03/2026 18:08

@aniloD thank you yes I've got some syringes for the extra dose, I've used them, to sub dose too, but prefer the tips.

Focussingonme · 05/03/2026 02:51

Can I ask a question about sub-dosing, do you just have less jabs per pen when doing this or are you going beyond the 30 days open rule?

I'm on 5mg, and want to start to taper off with lower doses but not drop to 2.5mg yet - but it's so expensive I don't want to get less than 5 per pen or waste it?

Funkysparrowdotcom · 05/03/2026 08:53

@Focussingonme I, and many people have gone beyond the 30 days when sub dosing, I kept it in the fridge and was scrupulously clean, it doesn't just degrade overnight on the 30th day, I used a 10 pen for about 3 months. Obviously I'm not advocating or a doctor or anything, but honestly I'm fine, nothing happened, I just managed to stretch the medication using various doses using a new syringe each time.

Do people get needle tips sent with their pens?

I had to buy a box of 100 tips when I ordered my first pen and I’m using those. I’ve ordered 8 pens so far and they just arrive in the box with no needles.

Is this unusual. My supplier is in NI.
