Did your early side-effects go away?

I’m three weeks into my WL journey and everything is great, food noise gone, 10lbs down, no nausea or headaches BUT I have developed horrible constipation. I’m doing all the right things with hydration, fibre etc but it’s still there and it’s starting to get very uncomfortable. OTC remedies have helped somewhat but it’s still pretty miserable. If I thought it would go away at some point, I’d persevere but as it is, I am considering coming off the meds at the end of the first month. I really don’t want to stop, in many ways these meds are working like a dream, but obviously I can’t continue all
bunged up.

So basically what I am asking is if anyone’s initial side effects disappeared? Did you also consider coming off the meds but were glad you stayed on? Thanks in advance.

Yes. Which med are you on? I titrated up doses more slowly than usual though

Beekman · 25/02/2026 15:21

I’m on the Wegovy tablets (1.5mg, lowest dose). They are new so not many people to ask for their experience but I was hoping just to get some general anecdotes.

Edited to add that if I do continue, I will remain at the same dose for now

I’ve had terrible constipation since day one back in May that hasn’t improved at all! Sorry. Do what I can to manage it (senna, lactulose, prunes!) but it’s worth it for me.

Beekman · 26/02/2026 01:29

Thank you @PearlsTeapot I have prunes! I have fibre gummies! I just wanted to, ahem, clear out what’s in me before starting a prevention regime.

Can I be really inquisitive and ask how many times a week you go?

What did I say to get the reply hidden by Mumsnet? Ok, I get there are some weirdos out there but this is the WL treatments board and a common issue.

Every 5 days or so, it's not nice but it is what it is!

You said the word 'gummies' which always gets hidden until checked. It shows now :)

Chia seeds op! 1 tablespoon in yogurt- leave to swell for 1/2 hr or overnight- top with berries.
Bonus points for kiwi fruit!
Will clear you out no worries.

Yes was just going to recommend this. They do get stuck in your teeth though!

Thank you, that’s really helpful. I’m not eating nearly as much as I was pre-GLP so I have to expect there to be less to come out, I suppose.

I was taking soaked chia seeds when I first started but I wasn’t sure if it was them bunging me up so I stopped.

I have gone a few times over the past couple of days but not the huge ‘clear out’ I was hoping for. Fingers crossed this will resolve or at least I will feel like I can live with it. The other benefits have been immense.

Psyllium Husk capsules everyday have transformed my digestion and ahem bowel movements.

Kazzaa46 · 26/02/2026 20:01

I only really suffered with constipation which was bad at times. Duculox liquid worked best for me.

It took 4 months to resolve for me.

Thank you and at least it did resolve! I tried MiraLAX powder and that worked the first time, the second not so well. I will try the ducolax as I think that’s more what like what I need, speed things up a bit. This has been the only downside of being on a GLP-1, I love everything else about it.

I'm on MJ, but I have had this mildly on and off since I started - BUT I also used to get this when I was following a strict Weightwatchers diet as well. I think a lot of it is to do with eating a much lower volume of food tbh. Give your body a bit of time to adjust.

snakeface · 02/03/2026 13:52

Plenty of fruit after meals, so sugar doesn't spike your blood sugar levels, should keep you moving

VamboRools · 02/03/2026 13:56

I used movicol sachets (the tasteless ones) for the first couple of months, and got quite fond of smoothies made with kiwi, prune juice and chia seeds. Now I'm adding only 10g of chia and 5g of wheat germ to my morning yoghurt and the rest of my 30g of fibre comes from my normal diet. How much water are you drinking because that really makes a difference.

KitsyWitsy · 03/03/2026 08:57

I have had constipation a lot on MJ. I use glycerin suppositories. Get some gloves!
