Rybelsus

I’ve been taking Rybelsus for months, I’ve been on the 9mg dose for weeks with no issues, however last Tuesday the sulphur burps started and past experience when I was on Mounjaro told me I was about to start with diarrhoea. Cue Wednesday and Thursday spent in bed running back and forth to the toilet and constant sulphur burps. I know when the diarrhoea is going to stop as the burps stop first.

I haven’t managed to restart the Rybelsus since then but yet again this morning, 5am woke up with sulphur burps and then 5 hours of diarrhoea. What the hell is going on. I haven’t taken Rybelsus since last Tuesday, I was fine from Friday and over the weekend then it just suddenly starts again today.

I’m fed up, I’m having to arrange someone to do school runs for me each time I’m bad and I’m losing days in bed. Could the Rybelsus still be in my system from when I last took it? I’ve tried to speak to the surgery today but appointments all gone.

If you were not on this med what would you think caused it.

if I wasn’t taking a GLP-1 you mean? I’d think I had some sort of bug

That may actually be what is going on. 😉

The Rybelsus will still be in your system, the half life is apparently 7 days, and you’ve been taking it long enough that you’d have reached a steady state. It will be about 30 days before it would all be gone out of your system.

Do the symptoms correlate with anything that you’re eating? Not that I think you’re eating anything “wrong” but it might just be something that you’re now finding hard to digest. Hence the sulphur burps and then the diarrhoea.

Yup,,,

Thanks @SilenceInsideI didn’t realise it would be in my system for that long! No can’t say I’ve identified any particular food as a trigger. I’ve had these episodes before since taking GLP-1’s but never for this long and one after the other like this. Maybe it is a bug like a PP suggests

There are a lot of bugs going around but the pattern would make me think it is likely the weight loss drug. I am not sure if what you are taking has the same impact on digestions but assuming it does. This happened to me on mounjaro. My research told me it was food that was harder to digest, combined with the slow in digestion from the drug, essentially rotting in my insides and forming some sort of bacteria. This releases the sulphur smelling burps and ultimately causes the diarrhoea which will continue until it’s out your system. I lived off cornflakes for a few days ! I linked mine to heavier foods such as pastry or heavy carbs which have a higher glycemic index the day before injecting ( which I knew I shouldn’t have eaten at the time !) I then kept a food diary to identify any triggers. Thankfully only happened twice. this is just my experience but did make sense to me.
