Only want to lose two stone

Selfcareaddict · 15/02/2026 11:27

Really want to lose two stone for up and coming summer events. Got quite a lot on and my clothes aren't fitting as nicely, I do exercise a lot but am currently injured so have gone into a bit of a panic.

Considering 2.5mg of mounjaro, lots of friends have used it for more substantial weight losses and they've done amazing!

How much did people generally lose on the 2.5mg dose? Obviously I can't exercise at the moment as I usually would so I'm hoping I can be on mounjaro for a month or two until I'm back fighting fit!

Do you meet the prescribing criteria? If so, go for it!

1clavdivs · 15/02/2026 11:33

I lost half a stone on 2.5 in 5 weeks but I lose that in the same timeframe on any diet. I had to move up to 5 to lose 2 stone and it took five months in total.

Yes I've actually gained 9lbs since I've been injured and it has now put me onto the cusp of being in the BMI zone.

What I lost will be vastly different to what you might lose, as I was 22st when I started with a BMI of 50. Presumably you’re interested in what people who are BMI 27 to 30 might lose? And usually that would be the 1 to 2 pounds a week that you’d expect from any weight loss approach. Mounjaro doesn’t force fast weight loss, it enables you to stick to a consistent calorie deficit long term. In 3 months let’s say, it would be realistic to look at 12 to 24 pounds lost.

If you are not obese, or overweight (BMI 27 or higher) with a weight related health condition, then you won’t be able to get a prescription for obesity treatment from the usual online or high street pharmacies. There are some clinics that offer so called “microdosing” and will charge you a premium for that service, if you don’t otherwise qualify.

FrenchBunionSoup · 15/02/2026 11:39

I was only about half a pound into the obese category and went on 2.5mg last Match. I went down from 12 stone to 10 stone 3 over a few months and then stalled, so that was almost 2 stone. I wanted to lose a bit more so went up a little after that (currently 9 stone 12 and taking 3.5mg which is only producing a slight weight loss but that's what I want).

I would highly recommend it, but bear in mind that not everybody responds to the 2.5 dose.

Sweetiedarling7 · 15/02/2026 11:41

My opinion is that weight loss injections are for people with a lot more weight to lose.

If you are only “on the cusp” of meeting the criteria with this relatively small amount of weight to lose I would try other means.

Although very effective for many people (myself included) there are risks of side effects and the definite risk of losing money!

Your choice of course though.

Thank you, I think it's the fact that I'm piling on weight at the moment my BMI is now dead on 30. Hence why I'm thinking of the Mounjaro. My issue is I'm short so my BMI shoots up any time I gain weight unfortunately.

I eat relatively healthy but exercise so never really put on weight apart from the obvious Christmas and holidays. Without the exercise I'm concerned it's going to increase.

So was only considering Mounjaro for a steady weight loss whilst I have no exercise at all. I don't mind losing slowly though but understand the risks. Thinking of maybe trying a month or two to see how I go.

Well done! Yes I'd be more than happy with this going forward.

Everyone starts at 2.5mg. The amount you will lose on this dose is impossible to predict as it varies so much from person to person. Don't let anyone tell you you're not 'obese enough' to take medication or that your goal should be bigger loss, it's all up to you!
I was BMI 30.4 when I started, now 26 and maintaining. I did lose 3.5 stone to get there, which took a while.

I am currently dead on 30 BMI. I'm short so my BMI increases rapidly when I gain weight unfortunately.

Would be more than happy with a steady weight loss though. I'm going to be unable to exercise as I would for a long while.

Well done on your weight loss and thank you for the advice. Very grateful

If you have a BMI of 30, then you might as well. Different people respond differently, so some people stay on 2.5mg until they reach their goal weight and other people don't lose anything until they hit a high dose. I've been losing an average of 1.5 lb a week since September with 4 pens of 2.5mg and then 3.3mg from then on. I still have quite a bit to go so I expect to go up to at least 5mg at some point, but who knows what will happen?

I do lose weight faster when I exercise more, and the exercise seems to suppress my appetite as well, so I'm not sure if your injury will mean that you need a higher dose.

1clavdivs · 15/02/2026 12:03

The weight loss was definitely quicker than higher my BMI was. I started at about 34. By the time I got to 30 it had settled to about 1 to 2 pounds a week. In the normal range it was painfully slow with lots of plateaus but at least achievable.

You may well find 2.5 is enough for you to lose 2 stone, some people do. It’s likely to take longer than a couple of months though.

I think this is a common opinion, but my own experience is that I have a lot of self control in most areas but all dieting ever got me was an endless yo-yoing between BMI ~25 and BMI ~30. You wouldn't believe the lengths I used to go to to try and stick to my diets, and it used to dominate my life. I could never sustain it before because there must be something up with my hormones. Amongst other things, I used to have terrible problems with hypoglycaemia which made it very hard to diet effectively, and now those problems have disappeared (and come back if I am a day late with my dose).

This has brought me peace with food and with my body. I wouldn't recommend going on a high dose unless really necessary if you don't have much to lose, but if it was possible for most people to lose a couple of stone and keep it off we all would have done it year ago.

Followthesunshine · 15/02/2026 12:10

How much you lose will depend upon how many calories you eat, it doesn't mattter whether you are on 2.5mg or 15mg. What others can't know is if 2.5mg will make you less hungry, for some it does and for others they need to go to higher doses.

Mysticmaiden · 15/02/2026 12:13

The advice given by others is great, just bear in mind it will probably be a lot more than 1 or 2 months, since losing a stone a month or 2 stones in a month at bmi 30 is a low chance. I was bmi 32.8 size 14-16 and it took me 5 months to lose 2 stones without exercise and i needed to go upto 10mg because of insulin resistance. Bigger people will lose it quicker, which is what you hear about in the media but most lose 1-2lbs a week. But yeh definitely give it a go especially if you can't be active at the moment. Following a high protein, low carb diet will help with losses. Use tdeecalculator.net to work out your deficit.
I'm now 9st 1lbs size 10 so I wouldn't look back and recommend it as it changed my life, all normal bloods after 4st loss and I started prediabetic, high BP and high cholesterol.

I was BMI 28 and met the criteria for a medical reason (not diabetes).

I started 1st November, have been on 2.5mg (temporarily went up to 3.75 but didn't need to so went back down). I'm 5ft 4, age 46, starting weight 12 stone, lost 1 stone in 1st 4 weeks, am now 9 stone 8 lbs so in just over 3 months have lost 2.5 stone, BMI 23 dead on. Would like to get to under 9 stone ideally. I have lost average of 2.3lb per week but obviously a lot was in 1st 4 weeks so a really reasonable and healthy loss in last 2 months.

I have focused on high protein, low carb. Eating clean majority of the time, have lacked on the exercise so need to improve on that side. I regularly check my TDEE to ensure my deficit of calories is correct and so far I have never lost less than 1.2lb in any one week. No plateaus yet either.

It really isnt just for morbidly obese people, in fact many doctors working in fields where being a healthy weight really affects certain conditions are disappointed it can't be prescribed at much lower BMIs.

I have honestly found it a miracle medication, I have not been overweight all my life, just for a few years due to various reasons (some mental, some physical). I had some nausea and tiredness at first but concentrated on lots of water and eating well. I feel completely normal now, just low appetite and feel full very quickly.

I do feel I have been a super responder to it, not sure why but it has changed so much for me. I buy 5mg pen and use it fof 9/10 weeks.

This is something people forget, then are suprised when they dont lose weight at the rate they want. So many times I see people say reduce your calories to 1500 and you'll lose weight, that is higher than my maintenance cals. They also spout nonsense like all the people I know just eat loads of junk food and lose loads of weight on them (so unlikely to be true unless they are eating half a happy meal a day 😂)

Sealedwithmykit · 15/02/2026 12:25

I was 12.7 when I started, and looking at my nutracheck I lost 2 stones in about 2 months on 2.5, depends how you respond.

SexyFrenchDepression · 15/02/2026 12:26

I should have said that I got to that 2 stone mark at 2 months and 2 weeks.

Frenchfrychic · 15/02/2026 12:28

If your bmi is 30 then yes you’re obese and yes I would completely recommend them if you have tried everything elde and can’t do it yourself. How much you lose is your choice,

If you are in a 1000 cal deficit it shouldn't actually matter on your starting weight technically (within reason as at my goal weight my TDEE will be 1400 so I wouldn't have 400 cals of course). I couldn't quite reduce by that much as would have taken me too low to be healthy but I was about 800 deficit to start with. Now about 5/600. By checking your TDEE regularly and reducing cal intake accordinglu then losses of 1-2lb a week are still possible once in healthy range.

I have been at BMI 25 or under for 6 weeks now and have still lost a further 9 lbs with no plateaus.

I totally understand lots of people prefer not to scrutinise calories to that extent, it isnt good for everyone mentally.

Incognitoburrito88 · 15/02/2026 13:47

I started at BMI 30. I was miserable, exhausted, filled with self hatred and so broken from years of yo yo dieting. It took me 2.5 months to lose 2 stone. I did ten weeks on 2.5mg then went up to 3.75mg. I went up to 5mg briefly and hit my 3 stone target in September. I’ve been titrating back down ever since and have lost a further half stone in maintenance. I’m now on 1.25mg - hoping to come off eventually but plan to give myself a year at goal before I try without.

I’m so fit healthy and happy now. My diet is the healthiest it’s ever been. I absolutely recommend giving WLI a go - it’s changed my life.

Your plan for maintenance sounds perfect. I think I might try that, give myself a year so I get through a summer, then Christmas and see how I feel.

Do you just buy 2.5mg and use it for twice as long?

Lifecircle · 15/02/2026 21:14

I am also short and my BMI was 30.
It took me 3 months to lose the first stone and 4 months to lose the second stone. I have never gone above 3.75mgs.
I lost it slowly and have been maintaining my loss since Xmas.
I was hoping to come off it completely but I've noticed the hunger returning so have decided to go for another half a stone which will probably mean upping my dose.
Wishing you luck!
