Mounjaro useless after taking a break

Hi, I started my Mounjaro journey last year and had amazing results at first (2 stone lost in total). Due to cost and Christmas I ended up having to stop and after a month of not being able to afford it and having stopped suddenly I ended up gaining nearly a stone over Christmas.

I have since restarted on 2.5mg as recommended but it hasn’t really done anything. Food noise is still loud, scales have dropped an initial 5lb but have gone back up 2lb so I’m guessing that is just water weight redistributing. I need to go up to 5mg but I’m worried my body is now just immune to its effects. Has anyone else had a break and found it doesn’t work when you restart it again? Or is this to be expected and it will start to do something when I go back up to 5mg?

last time it worked immediately at 2.5, I stagnated at 5mg and was due to go up to 7.5 which is when I could no longer afford it. I thought by restarting at 2.5 my tolerance for it would be lower and I would feel the effects again but that doesn’t seem to have happened and I’m feeling very unmotivated and wish I didn’t have to stop the first time round 😢

Yes I found the same as you, and it was really disappointing!
I started on 2.5 at first and it worked amazingly from day 1. Immediate loss of food noise which was my biggest problem, steady weight loss, I worked up each month from 2.5 to 5 to 7.5 and stayed with that (didn’t want to go higher).
Was away for a couple of months, combination of work trip, followed by family crisis, followed by holiday, so missed ordering and then had to start again at 2.5.
It had no effect at all! I worked up again over 3 months from 2.5 to 5 to 7.5 and by month 3 then had a little weight loss but not much, and the food noise was awful, I was constantly hungry again and constantly thinking about food. So I just came off it because it’s so expensive and wasn’t working.

Did you work back up to 7.5 and still have no effect? It’s so disappointing isn’t it? I don’t mind going back up to where I started if I knew it would work again but it’s essentially a gamble of another 2 prescriptions to find out which is so much money.

So the ‘second’ time, 2.5 and 5 both had no effect at all, I may as well have not been on it. When I got back up to 7.5 again it started to have a little effect. But the effect of 7.5 the second time was less than 2.5 the first time, if that makes sense?

When I first started I lost all cravings and food noise from day 1 and had a steady weight loss of 1-2 pounds per week. The second time I never lost appetite or cravings and was always hungry, but had a little weight loss on 7.5, maybe 1-2 pounds per fortnight.

I don’t understand it because I only had a gap of six weeks off in the middle yet my body’s response completely changed.

I’ve been off it completely now for 6 months and have put 2 stone back on (had originally lost 3 stone) despite sticking to healthy eating and exercise - thanks menopause!

This sounds quite depressing! I’m currently on the jabs, but had hoped to come off. Knowing the effect lessens second time around is a worry.

Gosh this sounds exactly like my experience! Started MJ in April, gradually lost 2 stones (no miracle weightloss here ) getting up to 7.5mg by December. By this point I was quite close to goal, only around half a stone left to lose, and was actually quite happy where I was - I probably got complacent. Decided to taper down so I could “enjoy” a bit of a break and look forward to some nice food over Christmas, so went down to 2.5 a week or two before Christmas then skipped Christmas week altogether. In those 2 weeks I put on 10lb!! I was horrified! My original plan was to taper down and do 2.5mg maintenance doses this year, but I’ve had to go back up to 5mg - can no longer afford the bigger pens, but 5mg having no effect whatsoever. I’ve lost around 4lb of the Christmas gain but I’m still 6lb higher than I was before Christmas!! Am so very frustrated and disappointed in myself. Considering switching to wgv to see if a change of meds helps kickstart the weightloss again - it’s much more affordable and if it doesn’t work, well neither is MJ working on the dose I can afford. It’s just the reported SEs that put me off! Interested to see what others are planning?

I was thinking of having a break to see how I get on thinking I can always go back on again.
this thread has put me right off !

I lost a lot of weight on MJ last year but when MJ prices went sky high I couldn’t afford to continue. I switched to Wegovy as it was cheaper but it didn’t agree with me at all. The side effects were horrendous and I felt ill on it the entire time. I stopped taking it at Christmas and the weight has crept back on (I’m up 7-8kg) so I started back on MJ 2 weeks ago. I’m on 2.5mg and that didn’t do much for me the first time around so I’m just trying to be patient to see if it has any effect at all. So far I just feel more tired but my food noise continues to be out of control. I will go up to 5mg if I need to but if that doesn’t help me, I will pack the whole thing in. I just don’t have the money for MJ at the higher doses (I used to be on 10mg) and even the cost of MJ 5mg is a real struggle for me but I also don’t want to put all the weight back on. Unfortunately I have a disability so can’t keep the weight off with lots of exercise as exercise makes my disability worse and I also have ADHD and that too is affected by the inability to exercise. I used to get my dopamine from exercise but now I can’t do that my body tries to get the dopamine from food instead which is why my food noise is horrendous. MJ really helped last time but the cost now makes it prohibitive.
