Wegovy- complete aversion to alcohol

LilyBunch25 · 08/02/2026 09:25

Has anyone else experienced this? I was on Mounjaro for 4 months but switched to Wegovy last month due to cost. Since changing I literally do not want/desire alcohol. I've looked it up (of course...!) and apparently this can be a thing but I am literally stunned by how significantly my desire for alcohol has disappeared. Obviously this can only be a good thing, health/calories/no hangovers etc etc but wanting to know how many others have experienced the same?

Yes completely. Can't stomach even a sip of wine. I've turned into the most boring person in the world!!

It's bizarre isn't it?! I have a bottle of prosecco sent to me for my birthday 3 weeks ago still in the fridge- becoming a standing joke with DH as this would never have happened before....! 😅

Me!

Been on it for over a year, hit my target weight, no longer fat according to the NHS!

I was a proper party animal, I could drink most people under the table. I have done dry Jan a couple of times pre jab and it was sooooo hard and depressing.

But now I don't miss drinking at all. I enjoy not having a fuzzy head on a Sat morning, I've lost zero days hanging out of my arse. My skin is better! My sleep is better! Groundbreaking stuff 😂

Furlane · 08/02/2026 09:31

I wish that was the case for me!! I think I drink more on it than off it - wine is probably where most of my calories go!! Although I seem to have developed a very sweet tooth whilst on it in general. I never used to eat chocolate, but now have at least one bar of chocolate a day.

Ah, interesting- do you think your body is craving sugars overall?

I’ve been looking at wegovy as an alternative to mounjaro (not on any injections as mounjaro isn’t affordable for me )
could I ask how you found it , in terms of side effects , weight loss compared to mounjaro ?
I have about just over stone to loose now

Ive lost 1.5 stone since November. So pretty good. From 13 to 11.5. I do feel sick a fair bit though.

I've been on it for 6 weeks now; my main side effect on MJ was extreme fatigue in the 48hrs after jab- that has been significantly less of an issue on Wegovy. Also nausea whilst I still get a little on Wegovy that also is less severe than MJ. In exchange the weight loss is slower, though I was expecting that tbh. On MJ I was averaging 5-6lb loss a month (I know I could've achieved more if I had been calorie-stricter though) and first month on Wegovy I lost approximately 3.5lb. Hope that helps 😊

Absolutely yes. Cant stand even the thought of alcohol.

Edited

The nausea in particular does seem to be a real variant. I have a friend who feels a bit more nauseous on Wegovy (we both started MJ at same time then switched to Wegovy at same time due to cost) than she did on MJ

I wonder what it is that causes it. I had hyperemesis when I was pregnant and the sickness feeling is like that. Luckily I don't puke though! I suspect keeping your blood sugars stable is the key but its tricky if you can't think what to eat.

Ohplesandbanonos · 08/02/2026 10:24

I've only used mounjaro but found exactly the same. Gone from almost problematic drinking (2-3 glasses of wine most evenings) to almost zero. I have one pint of cider after a workout on some Sunday evenings. Before that would have started a landslide but now that's plenty!

My skin is so much better and I love not waking with a hangover

Sweetiedarling7 · 08/02/2026 10:25

I believe this is a thing for mounjaro as well and is about the reward centres being blocked so cravings diminish. Presumably it depends what your pleasure/craving was initially. Could be alcohol, could be chocolate, has been reported to help people stop smoking too.

Most definitely. I would be a heavy enough sort of drinker generally. I was doing dry January anyway and started wegovy a week in. I had a couple of pints of guiness last weekend, but felt too rough the next day and then another night had a hot whiskey and was so sick the next day. Had a sip of my husbands wine and it tasted vile. Unheard of for me. Im happy enough to not drink for a while but have a friends hen and then wedding in a few months. Im thinking of skipping a week of the jab to allow me to have a few drinks for them

000ForFucksSake000 · 09/02/2026 22:04

Yes totally on MJ

AnyQuestions101 · 09/02/2026 23:37

Yeah, on MJ for 3 months, then WG since September and can't face the idea of white wine anymore. A cocktail still goes down ok but not really bothered either way
