A family member has offered me one months supply of Wegovy for free. I am keen to try to shift some weight that I have previously struggled with after loosing a decent amount naturally. Is this a good idea? Could I find it hard to stop after a month? Am I likely to see results?
for context over a 2 year period I have lost around 3 stone naturally and would be happy with another half a stone.

Sure, perhaps they have a stack of prescription only meds that haven’t been prescribed for you that they could pass on and you can give them all a try 🤷‍♀️

HeartyBlueRobin · 06/02/2026 22:31

You'd both be breaking the law as you cannot legally give prescription medication away or use someone else's.

However, in my opinion, a month's trial would be pointless. If you've lost a significant amount of weight already you should just keep doing what you're doing.

Alltheyellowbirds · 06/02/2026 22:31

Is this because it was prescribed for them but they’ve come off it early? Or are they dealing in black market WLI and giving you the first fix free so after you’re hooked you’ll become a customer?

SilenceInside · 06/02/2026 22:36

If you’re not obese or overweight with a weight related health issue then the risks of taking a prescription obesity medication are not outweighed by any health benefits for you. Never mind what everyone else has already said about the legality of passing on prescription only medication in this way. If you take POM that hasn’t been prescribed to you, no one has checked that it’s suitable for you and told you of the risks and issues that may occur.

Alltheyellowbirds · 06/02/2026 22:39

Did I understand right that you are only half a stone overweight?

Idontthinkicandothisanymore · 06/02/2026 22:42

I would. However, Personally I didn’t find Weygovy any good. I took mounjaro for 10 months and lost 4 stone. Weygovy doesn’t have the same effect on me.

Crwysmam · 06/02/2026 22:47

Do you know the dosage? If it’s a high dose pen that you have no experience of you could end up with serious side effects by overdosing. It’s a drug used primarily in diabetics so could cause a major disruption in glucose level if used incorrectly. If you end up in hospital how would you explain it. If it’s legitimately sourced then the pharmacy could be in real trouble.

There is a reason that doctors and other prescribers spend years training in pharmacology. It’s so that they avoid killing people. Black market supply of any drug legal or illegal caries a huge risk to the end user. Would you buy paracetamol in a plastic bag on a street corner? Probably not since you have no idea what it contains.

Why would a friend or family member offer you a prescription only medication. They have no idea of your underlying health so cannot tell whether it’s safe to use.

This is the exact reason they have some spare they purchased 2 month supply but didn’t get on with it after the first month so rather than go in the bin they offered it to me.
And the comments about being a dealer and getting me hooked are hilarious. They would be the ones bailing me out of a financial situation if it was to happen.
I am just outside the ‘just right’ band however I happy to be slightly more curvy the weigh loss now is for confidence.

You may think it’s hilarious but there are plenty of people buying black market WLI containing god knows what and doing god knows what to their body, so it was a question worth asking.

SilenceInside · 06/02/2026 22:56

I’m unsure why or what you’re asking about. You seem to have decided that you’re going to take someone else’s prescription for a condition that you don’t have. You seem to already know that you won’t be “hooked” on it as it’s not an addictive medication. You think it’s a good idea, regardless of people telling you that it’s illegal and ill advised. So. I hope you don’t decide to do this, and if you do, I hope that you are ok and don’t suffer any harm.

I am asking for real people’s experiences rather than opinions on the situation, as it is very different. Has any one seen positives with just a months use? I would also like to hear honest horror stories of addiction or illness of the medication if needs be.

If it’s a low dose like the starter dose then give it a go. I’ve done my first 4 wegovy jabs at .25mg and had headache and nausea after the first. I’ve not lost tons of weight over the 3.5 weeks (only 4lbs) but all my clothes have become looser and I’ve gone from a 20 to an 18. I ahve started exercising more and watching what I eat. It’s definitely made me cut out the snacking and has reduced the food noise and I stop eating when I’ve had enough. I also can’t tolerate really fatty or greasy food as it makes me sick. So if it’s the low dose yeah I would try it. If it’s a high dose I would give it a miss as your body hasn’t had a chance to build up tolerance to it and get used to it.

SilenceInside · 06/02/2026 23:10

There are dozens of threads in this section of people discussing their experiences of starting taking Wegovy or Mounjaro.

Do you know what dose the pen that you’re being offered is?

Notsosweetcaroline · 07/02/2026 09:41

I’d not do this, if it works for you then sure you will lose weight, but if you then stop abruptly and haven’t felt hunger for a month you may struggle. I understand the temptation, but for me they are long term use drugs as your eating habits are changed and then for those who want to stop, titrating down with reverse dieting ie upping cals at the same time,

unless you want to stay on then no id not do it.

i am also amused by the hysteria over someone else’s prescription.

lhsf844 · 07/02/2026 10:27

I did this last year with 2.5mg Mournjaro from a friend who was maintaining and wanted to see how she did taking a month off. I dropped 7lb (BMI was 24) with literally no effort or side effects (I do generally eat quite healthy, just have a penchant for snacking on weekends which I definitely felt it helped curb but not eradicate, small dose I suppose).

My understanding is Wegovy isn’t as impactful as Mournjaro, I’m not sure it would have much impact in a month? Although everyone told me 2.5mg of Mournjaro for a month wouldn’t do anything and it certainly did. I kept it off too, just gave me the kick I needed to reset for summer.

Valentina2027 · 07/02/2026 10:36

I wouldn’t, but I would do a strict month of no bread, cake or carbs other than rice. That’s what works for me
