I am curious how long it was before you were able to change a size clothes wise, comfortably. what dosage were you when you moved down

10.5 months and started at size 24 ish (stretchy clothing, denial etc) and am now in size 18, edging swiftly towards a 16 I think based on the baggyness of some of my 18’s.
8 stone down so far (well 7st 13 at last WI but near as dammit) and plenty more to go………

letshavetea · 05/02/2026 20:15

I started in October 2024 at 12 stone 10 lb, 5 foot 7, BMI 27.8. Had already come down from a max weight of 13 stone 5lb before starting MJ. I’m a slow loser due to hypothyroidism. I’m now 3 pounds away from goal and weigh 10 stone 10lbs. Want to get to 10 stone 7lb. I’m currently a BMI of 23.6. I plan to titrate down from about April and stay on MJ.

Size wise I started with me bursting out of size 16 clothes. I reached size 14 in around July 2025 and size 12 around October/November 2025. Size 12s fit me very comfortably now - some makes are loose. I’ve gone down two bra sizes and I’m now a 34G. I literally don’t have anything left of my old clothes - even th 14s swamp me and I’m in the process of selling them on Vinted. Thank heavens for Vinted!!

I do think it’s important to buy a few pieces of clothing in each new size as wearing clothes that are too big isn’t motivating.

I don’t want to carry on below a size 12 as I feel great, clothes look good and as I’m older and have loose skin (abdomen, thighs, upper arms) I don’t want this to get worse.

I've lost 5 stone in one year starting at a very high BMI of almost 45 to now BMI 34.
I don't even know what clothes size I am right now! I was in size 22/24 tops and size 20 bottoms in January 2025 and have discarded only a few items of clothes at a time as my weight was dropping.
First I got rid of some worn out and oversized T-shirts that were just hanging of me by the end of summer.
In November or so I went through my old clothes boxes (must be at least 8 -10 years old) and found some jeans in size 18 which I've been wearing ever since.
Lately I'm putting more and more things into my donation box whenever I grab something from my wardrobe in the morning, try it on and find it to be hilariously big. I need to do a proper clothes purge soon which will also include my nicer outfits for special occasions, swim wear and so on.
Right now I'm still mostly wearing my old clothes (18-22) but only the pieces that do not look quite so ridiculous and could be described as "baggy" or "oversized".
My warm jackets and winter coats are all too big now but I plan to wear them for the remainder of this winter as I don't want to spend money on winter clothes (especially expensive items like outerwear) for only a few weeks. I'm hoping spring will come early this year!
I'm also holding on to my two old belts because I love to see the progress of punching new holes into them.
All of my spring and summer clothes will be too large so I really need to go shopping when the weather starts getting warmer. I will limit myself to a few essentials because I need to lose at least 3-4 stone more and will continue to go down in sizes so I don't want to spend a whole lot on things that will only fit for one season.
Just a few days ago I started my shopping for spring as I walked by a store (a "normal" clothes store with "normal" sizes) and saw some lovely pieces. I tried them on and left the shop with a jacket and 3 tops in size 16/18 and a pair of jeans in size 12! I couldn't quite believe it. The jeans are a bit tight still but will fit within a few weeks when spring is about to start.

Wow some of these losses are so quick!! What am I doing wrong?!! I’m on the maximum dose and have been for ages and am not losing a thing. Think I’ve lost 20kg over 2 1/2 yrs. can’t believe people are doing that in months!! Might have to double the dose!!

It is most likely to depend on calorie deficit plus what your starting weight/BMI was, its recommended 0.5-1% of your bodyweight per week, obv the higher weight the bigger this number is and the wasier you will lose to begin with. Increasing dose will only work if you increase your calorie deficit really as well as checking your TDEE regularly and amending your calories. If you have maximum dose but eat near maintenance you won't lose weight regardless.

I started on 1300 cals (12 stone) on 1st Nov and now to lose weight need less than 1000 (9st11). My weighloss is much slower now as my deficit is less. My TDEE is only around 1400 now.

I dropped 10kg in 2.5 months when I first had to throw some size 18 tops out. Trousers took longer as I think I wore a size too small too long. Same with bras.

I am now 20kg down and started to look at the next top size. Trousers will always be a size more due to my shape. I am also due for some new bras but hoping I may loose a bit more and then go shopping as cup size G is expensive.

Yes they are, funnily enough i found some comfy but sylish ones in ann summers of all places, not a bad price either. not like my sports bra which was expensive to get one that works for this cup zsize!!

Thank you all, i had fun reading many of the responses because they were often talking about the exciting part of the journey which is when we get to see ourselves differently. its interesting that it varies this much. My partner has hardly lost any weight but his body shape has changed and his clothes are baggy, he has done more excerise becuase he hasnt had the fatigue i have. so motivation to get back in the gym.
I have some clothes i am looking forward to getting back into , part of it is getting back to my pre-covd era weight and wearing some of those faves. I also brought some new bits which i was holding off on, depending on tops or bottoms i ordered a 12-14.
I have a large bust which came with the weight gain, and am not sure how much of that will go down, so nice to hear about that too, not sure how i actually feel about the potential loss....have i got used to them yet???😂

OP posts:
ThePilatesLife · 06/02/2026 08:33

@Tammy214 I also have a large bust. I’ve gone from a 38dd/e to a 34dd in 6 months.
Sizewize, was a 16. It took 2 months to get to a 14 and a further 3.5 months to then get down to a 12. I can sometimes get into a 10, but occasionally need a 14, on bloated days. Now maintaining, as I’m quite happy as a small 12.

Putyourownlifejacketonfirst · 06/02/2026 08:35

I always think it’s important to remember that when you start losing weight it’s the visceral fat that goes first, the dangerous around your organs fat that you can’t see so although you may have lost a stone it doesn’t show but you have made a great impact on your health.

Doyouthinktheyknow · 06/02/2026 08:45

Last January I was 13 stone and a size18 snug. I’m now 8 stone 6 and an 8-10, mostly 10 because I don’t like things tight. I’m 5 ft 6, not on WLI’s, did it through intermittent fasting and overhauling my lifestyle and diet.

So I guess a stone and a bit for a dress size.

Tammy214 · 06/02/2026 10:19

So i tried on a size 12 pair of trousers i loved, and i got in thiem, could even do them up. downside is my stomach looks huge in them .....but i can do them up!
ThePilatesLife- i would be happy going from a 36 back to a 34, and perhaps a smaller cup or two, bit bored of being a G

OP posts:
Squirrelchops1 · 06/02/2026 10:29

Started at 15 stone 4. Height 5'6". Wearing 16 but a squeeze so more likely an 18.

After 1 stone loss, definitely 16
Now lost just under 3 stone so around 12 stone 7 and can pick just about any size 14 and wear it. Sometimes size 12s will fit.
Aim to lose another 14 to 20lb. To get to 11 - 111/2 stone. That will be size 12 -14 i think. That's perfect for me and within higher end of healthy bmi.

Im working out a lot and Sometimes haven't lost weight but all of a sudden an item of clothing will fit better.

Cairneyes · 06/02/2026 10:43

I started at about a size 24/26 but always wore stretchy, loose clothes so stayed in those until they were literally hanging off me! By that time I had lost 4 stone and went down to a size 18, a further 2 stone down to a size 16. I have now lost 8 stone and am a 12/14. It has taken me 14 months and have another stone and a half to go!

Cherrypie32 · 06/02/2026 20:22

I started in September, 13stone 9, good size 16. I’m now 12 4lbs and a nice 14. Annoyingly my 34ff bust doesn’t seem to change. I’ve only ever stayed on 2.5ml Wegovy as suppresses my hunger enough but I still have a terrible sweet tooth! I only walk the dog and have a job on my feet but will kick start sOne exercise proper in the spring. I’d like to lose a stone more.

I hear you! Think I started 36GG and although I'm about a 34G now, normally at this weight I'd be smaller up top, so that's definitely strange to me.

nevertoolater · 07/02/2026 08:44

I started at 16:5 (at 5ft 1) and am now 13:5. I was probably a size 18-20 at my biggest but tended to veer toward baggy clothes in sizes like large and extra large and I hadn’t bought anything new for a while so I’m not 100% sure what size I was.

At 13:5, I’ve still got a way to go but am getting much more confident in what I wear. I’m currently a roomy size 16 but it depends on where I buy from. I’ve got a top in my wardrobe that’s a 12 and trousers which are an 18 and both fit nicely. Sizing is so different dependent on where you buy.

I went yesterday to Next. One slightly fitted top in 16 was a bit tight and showed every lump and bump and a size 16 sweatshirt was far too big.

I start to ignore sizing and go for what fits but it means taking so many items into the changing room. And it makes online shopping a nightmare.

Has anyone else watched What not to eat and heard the bit at the end where they tell the people their results? I can’t quite understand how people have lost, for example, about one stone but this equals ten inches off their waist?
I appreciate we all carry our weight differently but I think you need to lose a lot more to get that big an inch loss.

Oh this is me. I can drop inches significantly off my waist with not a huge weight loss.

Are you someone who carries all their weight around the middle but not on arms or legs?

Falafelsprout · 07/02/2026 10:42

It seems absolutely crazy to me that less than a year ago Apple shaped me was struggling with clothes in a size 16,petite 8s from next are now my go to, my shape has completely changed, which I thought was impossible in my fifties, I have a definite waist, I think it is partly down to not eating crap upf food anymore and massively giving up alcohol.

yomellamoHelly · 07/02/2026 12:24

Waited about 6 months to buy new. All my clothes were very tight or too small, so took a good while to reverse that and feel a shop was needed. Then found i had to buy more as I continued to shrink. Weight loss has been slow and steady for me though

Sallycinnamum · 07/02/2026 12:40

Size 16 last May and but the summer was in 12/14.

I've lost 3 stone and now weigh roughly 8.11 so can comfortably fit into a 10 but I just can't get my head around being this size at all! Subsequently most of my clothes are too big.

Popcornandbeetroot · 07/02/2026 13:07

I think it depends on your starting weight and how/where you carry it. I was 130 kg last May and a snug size 22, it took 3 months to drop to a comfortable 20, I am currently 88kg and a 14 top 16 bottom as I’m pear shaped. I would like to get to about 65 - 70 kg, it will probably take a year or so but I’m ok with that as I do feel much more comfortable now. I buy on Vinted mostly apart from underwear and try not to buy too much as it doesn’t fit for long. I have invested in some super thick coats this winter though because 🥶 😅

UnimaginableWindBird · 07/02/2026 15:03

twilightcafe · 05/02/2026 13:39

I'd say about it takes about two months to drop a stone or a dress size on me. I'm 5ft11 and started at nearly 20 stone, which was a trouser size 20. Now I'm in the 17st bracket, I'm wearing size 16. I'm aiming for a size 14 by Easter.

Similar for me. I'm a lot shorter (5ft6) and I don't have smaller clothes to fit into so I'm just making more holes in my belts and wearing very oversized garments, but I cracked when it came to jeans so I know that I've gone down 3 stone from size 20 trousers being wearable but too tight to size 16 trousers being a good, comfortable fit.
