Is this normal?

I've just taken my 4th dose of my first pen (2.5mg). I have my 5mg and will start that next week.
This is left in my pen. Is this normal?
If so what do others do with it?

That’s what some call the bonus dose or golden dose, it’s for priming but usually enough for a full extra dose, you can extract with an insulin needle and use it. Make sure you buy human grade medical needles though from a pharmacy, and not one of the animal grade from Amazon.

So if i tried to use it as normal it wouldn't work, I'd need a syringe?

The pen locks after 4 normal injections, so you can't twist it to the 1 position anymore. Some people have had some success with forcing the pen to turn and breaking that locking mechanism, but sometimes that can break the internal mechanism and the pen won't work at all. Then you would need a separate syringe.

I use the last amount via a syringe and get a bonus dose so my pen gives me five doses rather than four.

We need to make the most of it before the new pens get rolled out without so much spare liquid
