Can I lose mounjaro to lose 5 or 6 kilos?

Feeling a bit heavier than usual due to not exercising at all and not eating properly, plus I am 49 so probably heading towards menopause. My usual weight over the years is around 58-60 kilos but have a feeling I might be around 63, or even 64 or 65. I have no willpower at all plus I don't eat much anyway as hectic lifestyle. Can I use mounjaro to shed a few pounds and get back to 58kg? I am 5ft 6.

Reading about people on line isn’t knowing them 😂

Why on earth do you think I'm reading about them online? In my book club alone 3 out of 7 are using Mounjaro. None have a BMI over 30.

Im not using the jabs currently due to other health reasons but I have 4 months worth in the fridge which I am going to start in February.

Thanks all. Sounds like it's not worth the risks/side effects so guess I will have to start exercising and eating properly if I want to lose weight.

Even if you take MJ you still need to eat healthily and exercise or you’ll just gain it back after, and you’ll lose muscle as well as fat.

Katie0909 · 02/02/2026 10:13

It sounds like you just need to change your eating habits rather than do something too dramatic. Try logging all your food and snacks on MyFitnessPal. I have no willpower and struggle to maintain healthy habits but have managed to stick to it and lose 2lb/week with the app. Once you are a few weeks in you will feel so much better having taken control and won't have to lie and put your health at risk by taking Mounjaro.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 02/02/2026 13:19

Much like any other diet unless you change your lifestyle it won't work long term. So you can either find the will power to train and eat properly to lose the weight, tone up and the rest,
or you can can sign up for WLI, lose the weight by switching off your appetite and either find a provider who will allow you to stay on it long term to the tune of £200 a month; or YoYo. It is a choice.

Realistically if you are turning 50 and not already obese, £200 buys you some decent personal training so you can stay toned, keep your metabolism pumping and your bone density/flexibility good. So option 1 would be a better long term solution.

64kg at your height is a nice weight, I would think a stone lighter would really show in your face at this age. I have used wli to drop a quick stone but I’m shorter than you and was from 70 to 65kg. Works brilliantly for me, I can do 1 or maybe 2 months on the lowest dose 2.5mg and easily lose a stone with almost no side effects. Personally I think this isn’t ‘allowed’ because they don’t make enough money from you - I trust big pharma to care about my wellbeing about as far as I can throw it 😆 They want you hooked on the stuff for life at the highest doses they can titrate you up to, no thanks.

Sure you do.

crack on then.

I took it for just three weeks and had to have my gallbladder removed.
It is only suitable for obese people.I was BMI 30 but it still effected me. I believe the NHS is saying BMI 35 now.
My cousin takes it and it's been life changing.
OP try Jane plan.

I think the risks are likely same for all: but for those more overweight the balance of risk and reward is different. I took it to lose 13kg from BMI 27 to 22, stuck with 2.5mg and careful to eat over 1,200 calories etc. my cholesterol has gone down (it was high).

"It is only suitable for obese people.I was BMI 30 but it still affected me. I believe the NHS is saying BMI 35 now."

@NCDoris the prescribing criteria as defined by the MHRA state that it's suitable for obese people, so a BMI of 30 or higher, or 27 or higher for certain ethnicities. It is also suitable for people who are overweight, BMI 27 or higher, with a weight related health condition.

The criteria the NHS use are nothing to do with patient safety or anything to do with clinical decisions, it's to do with practicalities in terms of cost and resources. If the NHS had all the money in the world and all the staff they might need, they could choose to prescribe to the MHRA criteria. However, with their current level of funding and staffing, the NHS has decided on a slow roll out for GPs to prescribe Mounjaro. It's planned over 12 years, and started with people who are morbidly obese, BMI 40+, with at least 4 out of 5 specific weight related health conditions. This summer, they will extend that to people with BMI 40+ with 3 out of 5 of those conditions, and so on each year, until they eventually get to the point where they will prescribe it as per the MHRA guidelines.

My provider made me send in a video which showed my body and then scale weight.

You don’t need it for 6kg when you are well in the healthy weight zone

There are loads of ways to manipulate this, plus most providers dont ask for videos. Tight clothes, camera angles, holding dumbells when standing on scales. Loads of people do it. Also people say they are a couple of inches shorter.

I do think that for some people (esp shorter people) that BMI 27/28 can appear much bigger than on someone taller. You can easily need to lose 3 stone to get to a healthy waist/height ratio. I am BMI 23.5 now and am borderline still on that waist/height measurement. My close friend is a doctor in a field where weight affects her speciality considerably, she feels that (in a controlled environment) WLI would be extremely beneficial to people around 27-30 BMI on the NHS but they have to have so many of the listed conditions to get it.

miniaturepixieonacid · 03/02/2026 11:52

It's probably easy enough to find it and lie but very dangerous, especially if you have any history of crash dieting or eating disorders.

I have a friend who has been bulimic for decades and photoshopped pictures of herself to get it when she was a petite size 8-10. She's now anorexic and has a BMI of, at a guess, about 14. Not on mounjaro anymore but hasn't been able to kickstart herself back into eating and continues to get sicker.

And yet I still find it tempting (I'm also size 8-10 with an eating disorder) - if it was already readily available as pills rather than injections I would probably lie to get it too. Even seeing what it's done to my friend. It's an amazing invention for those who genuinely qualify. But I think we're going to see a scary, unhealthy trend in how it affects already slim people who have an unhealthy mindset.

Ive faked BMI with a number of providers. It’s really not that difficult. Latest pictures I was 10 stone 8 at 5 foot 4 and was prescribed. I’m not advising this as a wise idea btw before people come at me. Just saying it is possible.

If you've previously been prescribed weightloss injections you can be much less than 10st 8lbs. As a starting weight under the guidelines you shouldn't be prescribed them.

MylipstickiscalledHugMe · 03/02/2026 12:15

I know it's tempting OP but it is risky. There are some good threads on MN weight loss section with people trying to lose just a few kg. It's hard, the body wants to hang on to them.

For me I have the most success with reducing carbs and having a bit of psyllium husk (max a teaspoon with lots of water). I read it once described as a poor man's weight loss drug. Its effects vary by person but it does fill me up a bit, with 0 calories

Would have been hard to manipulate my video, had to be full body then pan to me stepping on scale and measuring all in the few seconds that made the video small enough to upload!

My friend did it with Pharmacy2U video, just told them she didnt have full length mirror and held a dumbell, there are ways round it if people are that bothered. Also most only ask for photos also. Out of the 4 providers I have used 1 asked for a video the 1st time, 1 asked for photos taken via their website (1st time only) 1 asked for photos up to 30 days old, one asked for nothing at all.

Shemed only wanted a live call, could have dumbells down the back of trousers. If you want to lie, it’s not hard.

I know quite a few people who lied about their BMI in order to get it.

Well obviously you can do that, just as you can pretend to have back pain to get painkillers, or pretend to have any other illness to try to fraudulently get medications that you don’t need.

Exactly, I am in no way saying it is right to lie re medical info but TBH if someone is over BMI 27 they still potentially have several stone to lose to get to a healthy weight so its understandable and is not unsafe, given the fact you could get it if you were just BMI 27 and had high blood pressure. Someone without high blood pressure doesnt make it unsafe to use.

Hotfirewood · 04/02/2026 19:44

My BMI was 27 when I started MJ 5.5 weeks ago. The pharmacy I use counts perimenopause as a reason to accept requests that are “overweight” rather than “obese”. I just had to submit an unattractive photo where I looked as fat as possible 😂

My BMI is now 25.5. I’ll stay on MJ till I get to BMI 21. So I don’t see why it’s not licensed for starting with lower BMIs.

Side effects aren’t anywhere as bad as I expected. I’ve had nausea for a few days on 5mg, but it passed by lunchtime today after I ate something.
