Can I lose mounjaro to lose 5 or 6 kilos?

Feeling a bit heavier than usual due to not exercising at all and not eating properly, plus I am 49 so probably heading towards menopause. My usual weight over the years is around 58-60 kilos but have a feeling I might be around 63, or even 64 or 65. I have no willpower at all plus I don't eat much anyway as hectic lifestyle. Can I use mounjaro to shed a few pounds and get back to 58kg? I am 5ft 6.

Absolutely not! Why on earth do you think you would qualify for Mounjaro, or need it?

Your BMI is 22.4 which is in the healthy range. Mounjaro is a medication for obese people with a BMI above 30!

MissPobjoysPonies · 21/01/2026 14:23

Why would you? Your BMI is around 23 at 64kg and well within normal weight??? You need a BMI of 30-31 to be considered.

CherryTreeOne · 21/01/2026 14:25

No, you will not be able to be privately prescribed Mounjaro at the height and weight you are stating. You need at least a BMI of 27 alongside a weight related condition such as high blood pressure to be prescribed it. If no other conditions prevail, a BMI of over 30 is required.

Mum1822 · 21/01/2026 14:30

OP are you in the UK?

I think in the US you can get WLI for cosmetic reasons so wondering if the OP is in another country. Not saying it’s a good idea.

Autumnrabbits · 21/01/2026 14:31

I know quite a few people who lied about their BMI in order to get it.

CherryTreeOne · 21/01/2026 14:33

Most providers will ask for photos though so it would be clear you are lying by a lot!

MissPobjoysPonies · 21/01/2026 14:34

It’s pretty difficult to do to lie about your weight and actually showing your body to the prescriber. Additionally you don’t get to just get a “private” prescription, you have to acknowledge that your GP will also be informed of it for your medical records.

id say that those who lied about their BMI are possibly not getting it from a legitimate source.

Ok, but do you think that's legal and a sensible thing to do? If you think it's ok then why are you asking the question?

There are rules for a reason. In your situation there is no health benefit, only risks to your health. And additional risks if you lie and acquire prescription only medication fraudulently or from black market sources.

Sure you do.

crack on then.

MeridaBrave · 21/01/2026 14:47

No unless you are prepared to lie about weight. Some suppliers don’t ask for photos and instead you stand in scales during the consultation.

Tammy214 · 21/01/2026 15:45

Suppliers have to 'confrim' the BMI which was brought in last year, so i would be surprised if you can find any UK suppliers who dont ask for photos. However am sure there are loopholes that sound would have found.

Ive faked BMI with a number of providers. It’s really not that difficult. Latest pictures I was 10 stone 8 at 5 foot 4 and was prescribed. I’m not advising this as a wise idea btw before people come at me. Just saying it is possible.

But you’re not starting at this weight no? The op is starting at a low bmi. So she needs to show an obese picture. If you’re already on it most prescribe quite low . I don’t get why you’re faking it. Some of them even keep prescribing down to 20.

CharlotteLightandDark · 21/01/2026 15:56

I fudged my bmi but only by a tiny bit - was 29.5.
i had to send photos but obviously you can’t see .5 of a bmi in photos

bignewprinz · 21/01/2026 16:02

Mounjaro has side effects, I wouldn't take the risk at your current BMI.

It's also pretty pointless for such a small loss. You won't change your habits in the space of 5kgs, which means as soon as you stop the MJ you will gain it back.

Bumply · 21/01/2026 16:12

The BMI limit is because the risks of Mounjaro are less than the risks to your health of being morbidly obese.

I started at this weight. Have never had BMI over 30 except when pregnant.

Then I’d suggest Mounjaro isn’t working for you if you’re still on it……

Weight was lower. Came off WLI and regained weight. Not that difficult to comprehend.

So it was a pointless exercise for you having spent the money and not changed the habits, as a PP has already suggested.

A quick that didn’t work?

Autumnrabbits · 21/01/2026 16:38

Thanks all. Sounds like it's not worth the risks/side effects so guess I will have to start exercising and eating properly if I want to lose weight.

So this was a dig at people using Mounjaro all along? Nice.

Overtheatlantic · 21/01/2026 16:41

Could you not have figured that out for yourself?

Disturbia81 · 21/01/2026 16:42

No way would I risk my health at a low BMI.
