Horrendous Diarrhoea

Hi, looking for some urgent advice.

I started 2.5 MJ last Tuesday and by Thursday night was having explosive diarrhoea which lasted until Saturday afternoon (I was only eating a slice or 2 of sourdough toast. I was fine on Sunday and managed to eat a whole meal but Monday night I'm back on the loo again. 8lb loss which is no doubt mainly water.

I'm due to take my 2nd injection today but I'm so wary of adding injury to my already upset stomach.

Many thanks for reading

I certainly wouldn’t take another dose whilst you still have problems and suggest you contact your prescriber for advice.

This happened to me although it was 8 weeks after I started on 2.5g, so it was out of the blue, 3 mornings that week terrible diarrhoea. I decided not to take my next injection of 2.5mg but did 1.25 instead. That worked well for me, that and taking pepto bismol which is wonderful!

SilenceInside · 20/01/2026 10:54

You can certainly delay injecting for a couple of days at least until you are feeling better. You can also take immodium or other OTC treatments and see if those help.

As @VioletandMauve suggests, you can also try doing a partial dose when you do feel up to trying again. Instead of turning the pen all the way to the 1 position, if you turn it halfway by counting 30 of the clicks it makes, you can do a 1.25mg dose instead of the normal 2.5mg dose. Your prescriber would not suggest this as it involves using the pen in a way that it isn't intended to be used, but it is something that a lot of people do.

All of the above is good advice and I’d stop eating whatever it was you were eating, even if it was just sourdough, maybe try some protein based food.
pepto Bismal really is great, I hope it goes soon.

I had this last year when starting mj. It lasted four days and I cried every time I went to the toilet as it was just sheer burning.
Delay your next dose please and get some pepto bismol, it really will help
If you haven't been eaten clean before starting the injections then all that food will have to come out one way. Nothing greasy, or heavy before injecting
Hope you feel better soon x

Thank you all. Much appreciated

Sorry you've been so poorly, I've been there and it's rotten.

I'd count clicks (30) and do 1.25 in your shoes. That's what I did for the first 4/5 weeks.

Your prescriber will have said - when you purchased the jab - to let them know in the event of any significant side-effects. So let them know and they will advise.
