Help did I mess up!!!???

I just took my 11th mounjaro dose so I should know better!!!

Dh does my pen prime and I inject. Everything was normal, I put the needle in. But for some reason, instead of pushing the needle in, I clicked round to zero from 1!!! As in the opposite of clicks!! It went to zero no problem, I push the purple knob down as far as it would go, counted 5 slowly, and then took the needle out. The dose was all gone, it looked normal. Dh said "what are you doing?" I said I was taking the dose. He said "I've never heard the clicks before?" And then I thought, shit, why did I do that???

Anyone know if I've done something totally dumb??

Anyone else done this so I feel less of a fool???

If you are certain that the medication has been used and the needle was in your body then the dose must surely have been injected. Where else could it have gone? If it’s not in the pen and not obviously leaked out.

When you press the plunger, the pen turns from 1 back to 0, but it doesn’t click. I don’t know what would happen if you twisted the pen rather than pressed the end properly, but if the dose marker went from 1 to 0 then presumably the dose was administered.

The “worse” case is that you’ve somehow managed not to give yourself today’s dose. That’s not a problem, other than you might find it harder to keep to your diet this coming week. The other option is that you did do the dose albeit in a bit of an odd way. So, no problem with that, you’ve done your normal dose. Either option is not a big deal. Is there anything else you’re worried about?

Dh and I have looked at the pen and we think only 2 doses have been taken/injected and I failed to push anything in.

However, I've messaged pharmacy 2 u, my provider and I'm waiting for a reply. The helpline is closed right now. I was just so shocked that I could have been so careless!!!

And yes I'm a bit of a panicker!!

At least I can upload a picture or the pen to someone or take it to a pharmacy or something so they can look.

Well, no harm could have come from it. But, you should be absolutely certain that you did not take a dose from the pen before deciding to try again. You don’t want to inject a double dose due to being mistaken.

I would say that there’s two doses left in the pen, so only 2 doses have been used. That’s probably what P2U will say if you get through to them on the helpline tomorrow. No harm in waiting till tomorrow to see what they say before deciding what to do next.

Thank you! I'm just so annoyed with myself but will wait until tomorrow and see what pharmacy 2u say! At least I have been religiously logging. And the pen shows the doses so clearly.

No worries. I’ve just done my 80th Mounjaro injection this week, if you can believe it, so I’ve been around the WLI board for a fair while and I’ve seen people post about similar issues and questions many times before.

Hopefully Pharmacy2U will be able to advise tomorrow and then you’ll be sorted.

You didn’t take that dose. if you are certain you already took 2 before then I am certain a 3rd has not been used from your photo. It just sat in the pen while you reversed those clicks back round. This photo is a really handy reference.

it’s not hard to fix, you can get this 3rd dose out just by repeating your clicks and pushing this time, however you are going to need a syringe to get your fourth dose out (as the clicks are limited per pen and you just ‘wasted’ 60) so if that’s not something you’ve done before for the extra dose then order needles now so you have them for next week.

Shotsy is good and free for logging jabs so you can always look back and make notes like new pen etc

I am actually now wondering if reverse clicks could use up the click count too. I honestly don’t know as never heard of anyone doing it. Probably not, but syringes as back up are essential now so you don’t waste those doses. It’s otherwise fine, the medicine isn’t damaged at all, just the pen mechanism. Supplier won’t replace the pen as it’s user error.

If it gets stuck part of the way to 60 and you don’t have a syringe you can either inject what you got to (and come back here to check if you don’t know how to calculate how much it was) or leave it in the clicked position until your syringes arrive to extract the full 0.6ml.

I hope that makes sense - it’s all fixable without losing any doses!

If you turned it back to 0 from 1, then pushing the plunger would not have done anything, as there was nothing measured up to administer. So you have not taken your dose.
Just out of interest, why does your husband do the priming and you do the injection? Surely it would be easier to do it all yourself?

@flysolo no, reverse clicks do not use up the click count. You can turn it to 1 and back to 0 with no issues. The clicks are only 'used' once you press the plunger.

The pen has dispensed 2 doses so far.

Reverse clicking does not dispense medication/push the plunger.

ime (but only done it once) it also does not use up your click allowance / cause the pen to lock early

if you are 100% sure you have only had 2 doses previously from the pen I think you are ok to dose today

varying comments on if the backward clicking does use up clicks or not. And not like anyone wants to mess up their own experimenting to figure it out! I’ve always been paranoid about pens jamming which while rare does get reported on here so always keep syringes on standby just in case. It’s too expensive to risk not being able to get it out the pen.

@flysolo I literally have wound a pen backwards and forwards, numerous times at the start of my journey whilst I was getting used to counting clicks after ordering a higher strength pen and deciding not to go up the dose.
It 100% does not count until you push the plunger and use the dose.

I felt a bit of a fool last night!

My Dh does the priming @Howinthehelldidthishappen because I was very anxious when I was about to do my first jab and so I asked him for help. I often read instructions badly and miss vital information. After that it just became routine. The disadvantage is that I've not properly learnt how to do the priming; I always think you learn best if you actually do a thing!

I must learn to do it myself really.

Oh yeah and I agree that I have not taken the 3rd dose!

its unstandable to panic because its new and you want to do it right. your pen shows you have 2 doses left so you havent taken the 3rd dose as the lines on the pen show that.

My husband does the priming as well for the same reasons yours does. Sounds like you just had one of those moments where we do something “oops” for no apparent reason. 😆
