Mounjaro 15mg plus.

Belindabelle · 18/01/2026 14:49

I have been on Mounjaro for 16 months on 15mg for about 10 months. Weight loss is now very slow bmi is around 26 from a starting weight of 17stone. I would like to lose about another 30lbs to get to bmi of 23.

Some weeks I have ok suppression and other weeks I don’t think it’s doing anything. I always prioritise protein and avoid upf as much as possible. I know people heavier than me who have never been above 5mg. I think it’s so strange the way this drug works. I didn’t have diabetes or any other health issues. Just obese.

With the increased dose of Wegovy announced I just wondered if you think they may bring out a stronger dose of Mounjaro. If they did 17.5mg or more I feel sure I would be on that increased dose.

I don’t think there will be a higher dose for Mounjaro in the near future. Perhaps when Retatrutide becomes available and Mounjaro is no longer the most effective of the GLP1s there might be a drive for Eli Lilly to test and produce a higher dose.

WeAllHaveWings · 18/01/2026 15:00

I imagine the next big push from Eli Lilly will be Retatrutide, a triple agonist, rather than increasing the Mounjaro doses.

There is also something mentioned by Oushk recently around GLP-1 receptor saturation, perhaps Mounjaro 15mg is already the ceiling for this drug and any higher would be of little benefit.

FurForksSake · 18/01/2026 15:06

As above, I really don’t think it’s happening. I know some people have brought doses slightly closer together.

Have you tried having a diet break? Eating at maintenance or just above for a week and then going back to your deficit? That always breaks my stalls.

Also are you lifting heaving and working out? If not then now is probably the time to really look at increasing muscle and fitness to see you through the rest of the journey.

DarkForces · 18/01/2026 15:11

You went up the doses quickly. Do you think you're not that sensitive to it? Trying wegovy makes sense as the highest dose sounds very effective

Belindabelle · 18/01/2026 15:21

@FurForksSakefunnily enough I have been a bit more relaxed over the past 4 weeks or so what with Christmas New Year and a holiday. Going to regroup and restart a fresh tomorrow. I mean I haven’t been off plan that much but certainly a bit more food and alcohol than normal and probably not as much exercise.

I will weigh in the morning and calculate my current TDEE and just get back to basics for a final push. Delighted with 5 stone loss just need to push on through and complete the task.

@DarkForces I did go up quickly as advised. I did 5 weeks (4 plus bonus) on each pen apart from 5mg and 12.5mg where I did two pens. I think I am fairly resistant to it. It didn’t really seem to have any effect on appetite until the higher doses. On the other hand I haven’t had any negative side effects.

KimTheresPeopleThatAreDying · 18/01/2026 15:41

Interesting isn’t it. I haven’t been above 5mg, that feels enough for me.

DarkForces · 18/01/2026 15:47

Not finding the lower doses effective suggests you're not very sensitive to it. If I was you I'd try a supportive pharmacist who'll let you switch between the two and give wegovy a good go. If not then like others have said new wlis should be coming out and they're meant to be even better.

ShawnaMacallister · 18/01/2026 15:50

I went up the doses fairly swiftly as that was recommended, with one extra month at 7.5 due to side effects. I wish I hadn't as there is nowhere to go now but I don't think I would like to go any higher really. My BMI is sitting around 26 and I honestly think that's where I am meant to stay. I was 24/25 BMI all through my teens and twenties so 26 in my 40s seems about right.

DarkForces · 18/01/2026 16:02

It's the minimum time between increases rather than recommended but it's a perfectly valid approach. I was just suggesting giving something else a go as you said you weren't getting much impact from the highest dose and there's not an option to go higher on the horizon. It's so expensive that it's good to feel it's effective.

I'm mid 40s too so know what it's like to have struggled long term with weight. I'm at maintenance and am considering switching to save money but I'm terrified of starting the weight gain cycle again

LiveLoveLifeForever · 18/01/2026 16:46

I’ve been MJ since June 24 with my bmi down from 34 to 26 and a loss of 25% of my starting weight. This is pretty much what they say you will lose but I’d still like to lose another stone or so which will get me to a bmi of 23. Although I didn’t lose a great deal of weight last year my body shape has changed and I look leaner with my waist measurement just over an inch higher than it should be to be healthy. I did one month on 2.5 and the rest on 5mg although thinking of just pushing it up to 6.25 for a couple of months before my birthday in April when I’ll be 58. I’m trying to focus on protein, fibre, water, sleep and resistance training this year.

PluckyChancer · 18/01/2026 16:48

Why not have a break for a month or so and try to maintain your current weight?

Then you can go back on MJ at a lower dose and see if it kick starts any more losses?

However, it might be that a bmi of 26 is optimal for you on MJ?

Belindabelle · 18/01/2026 17:00

If you had told me 18 months ago my bmi would be 26 I wouldn’t have thought it was possible so I am delighted with that.

I am 56 and have been overweight for over 20 years so like you say this may be as good as it gets.

I have two pens I the fridge so I will finish the one I am on and maybe think about taking a break whilst trying to maintain. I will look into Wegovy too.

I certainly could also do more on the exercise front. That is going to be my main focus this year. Get back into lifting weights regularly and be more concerned with shape than weight.

A friend was advised to try injecting every 6 days instead of every 7 by her prescriber when 15mg stopped having a noticeable effect after she had been on that dose for several months. I believe it was IQ Doctor.
I think those of us who haven’t had side effects or enormous suppression are perhaps less sensitive to the medication and so maybe this tactic would be useful.

MeridaBrave · 20/01/2026 10:01

I’d probably take a 5-6 week break, and during this time stick strictly to unprocessed food with a lot of fibre and protein. But eat enough that not hungry eg high volume veg.

Then start again at 2.5 or 5.

Also look at lifting to increase muscle mass.

Jaro · 20/01/2026 21:29

I have another 6kg to lose but have been losing/gaining the same 2kg since November. I was really really struggling with obsessing over food and giving in to the chocolate cravings and the junk food. I know it's against guidelines, not been tested etc. but I took 17.5mg on Saturday.

The hellish food noise is quiet, my sugar cravings are gone, I feel full after a normal size portion again. I feel fantastic! None of the other doses have ever made me feel this way and I'm 1 year in.

I am NOT suggesting this is an appropriate thing for anyone else to do. It was my personal choice. No adverse side effects yet but I've never really had any negative ones anyway.

It may be that in time a higher dose is created. This is what happened with semaglutide.

Somebody else I know always takes a tiny bit extra when he uses the bonus dose and says he has his best ever effect then.
As you say though this is not advice.

This is interesting! I might have to try this

I guess the question is the affordability of doing this longer term plus, plus whether your body would get used to it.

Jaro · 22/01/2026 16:32

I can afford to do it for 2 months, maybe 3, but hoping I'll be at goal in 2 months and then I can drop down for maintenance.

Still feeling good! I'll definitely be doing it again on jab day. Will be interesting to see if it continues being great for me or if I'll experience any negatives.

Belindabelle · 22/01/2026 22:24

Very interesting @Jaro. How did you do the 17.5? One full dose and 10 clicks?

Apparently taking 15g every 5 days would be the same as taking 17.5 every 7.

I am still not sure what to do. 15mg just doesn’t seem to cut it anymore.

OP posts:
Jaro · 22/01/2026 23:33

@Belindabelle Yep, just like that.

I did try 15mg every 5 days but honestly it didn't seem to make a difference.

Don't do anything you're not certain about. I see a lot of people on other forums saying they dropped down a dose for a while and then went back up and it helped kick start it again.
