@RenegadeKeeblerElf absolutely! There's so much conflicting info out there, I think the best thing is just to try different things and do what works for you. I used to have cereal for breakfast and then I'd be starving by lunchtime! If I have no breakfast or something like a protein yogurt then I'm not even hungry at lunchtime and have to make myself eat something

Motnight · 31/01/2026 14:03

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne thinking of you and your son and really hope that there is good news soon.

52soon · 31/01/2026 14:04

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne hope your son is ok and they get to what is causing problem, sending good wishes.

i have 2 NSV’s this week, I tried a size 16 jacket on In Sainsbury’s and it fitted, zipped up with room and I dug out some jeans in the attic, have not worn for at least 15 years 3 pairs, 2 still had labels on BHS petite fit size 20 not a bit of stretch or elastic in them and they fit! Wondering if these really are a 20 in today’s sizing🤷‍♀️

I've realised I need to just get rid of all rules around eating. The more I worry about calories/macros/nutrients/good or bad fats/UPFs/when to eat, the less likely I am to get into a good relationship with food. I'm working on eating when I want to eat, what I want to eat - so some days I have breakfast and some days I don't. Some days I have chocolate and some days I don't. Neither is right or wrong, it's just what's right for me in that moment. I do track my food as I find it helpful to know how many calories I've eaten but I don't limit them particularly.

EnterSandfan · 31/01/2026 14:18

@RenegadeKeeblerElf yeah I definitely think there's something to be said for learning to eat intuitively, as that will be more sustainable long term. God I'm a total chocolate addict and I've swapped to maltesers in the evening as they're lower calorie, I'm kind of making sure the rest of my diet is absolutely great so that I'm allowed a bit of choc most nights 😆

I think this is very true.
I've never counted calories.
I'm not entirely sure what macros are.
I eat a slice of cake and have a lolly every evening.

I've still lost loads of weight.

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne sorry to hear about your son. I hope he will be well soon. Living in a rural area must be very hard at such a time.

@RenegadeKeeblerElf I am also trying to learn to eat intuitively. I’m almost six stone down now and I haven’t counted a calorie yet.

On a different note: my son has been taken to hospital.
He's my youngest child (although he's 30).
I spent most of yesterday in our local A & E with him because he suddenly can't feel or use his legs.

It's very worrying. They think he has a spinal cord lesion of some kind, and last night he was moved a hundred miles away to the hospital in Paisley.

As you may remember, we live in a small village in Argyll.

A very kind friend is driving DD and me to see him today. It takes three hours to get there.

Of course, this is a time when my stupid husband would have been useful.........

Oh Broon, I’m so sorry to read this, it must be really worrying for you, no matter their ages they will always be our ‘babies’. I hope you get some positive news 💐 and huge congrats on reaching your goal!

Iwouldratherbesinging · 31/01/2026 17:41

I’ve yo-yo dieted for most of my life, and spending huge amounts of time severely restricting my diet to the point of living on 2 crackers and an apple for weeks on end, I must have been malnourished as I felt ill. This was in my 20’s with two young children to run around after and I think I lost 2lb max over about 8 weeks. I never want to go back to being that person, I detested myself and was in a dark place. Something is wrong chemically with an obese body that has binged and starved over a very long time, science has come so far so I hope this is recognised one day. There are too many of us that have experienced it, or similar

sending hugs @Doggymummar

PearlTeapot · 31/01/2026 17:56

Sending love to @TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne what a worrying time for you. Hope your visit today was helpful. Fingers crossed for good news.

I don't know what macros are but I do count calories, it makes me feel good about myself as I feel in control, even if I go over my daily limit. I just try to eat a little less the following day.

I do still have my free-for-all Sundays, where I eat as much as I like. I've stuck to it while here, having roast dinner and apple crumble and ice cream every Sunday for lunch!

MrTiddlesTheCat · 31/01/2026 18:41

I'm at the very start of this journey. I was 136.kg when I started trying to lose weight a year ago, and 129.4 kg when I started mounjaro 4 weeks ago.

Yesterday I had another hospital appointment. I've lost count of how many I've had over the last 2 years. But this one was different. I sat in the chair in the consulting room and the bars of the arms weren't cutting into my legs. For the first time I didn't have to ignore the pain of being too fat for the seat.

user593 · 31/01/2026 19:04

@Fffreeeeezing I’ve lost circa 10st twice on Cambridge Diet (and put it back on!). I’m really hoping this works better for me. I do feel like I’m finding a new way to live rather than just temporarily removing the problem (food!).

PositiveAttitude · 01/02/2026 08:05

Good morning!

I hope things are going ok with your son @TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne No matter their age we worry and our "mum" instincts take over.

Finally my weight seems to have settled after being ill. I was frustrated because I thought I was just going up, down, up, the last half of January, but I have just had my monthly report from the weighing app and I am leaving January half a stone lower than I started, so I am pleased with that.

Yesterday I wore my big coat that I could not do up at the beginning of the winter. Not only could I do it up, with a chunky jumper underneath, there was room and I was able to sit down in it for the whole of a game of rugby!! I did have a fleeting sadness that maybe by next winter it will be too big.

I gave up on my weight for most of my adult life. I was big, but too busy with 5 small children to put any effort into myself. The first time I lost weight I did it with sw. I said at the time that it was like a switch was turned on in my brain and I found it quite easy to stick to. Until I got down 7 stone, to just under 15 stone and no matter what I did I just did not budge. I did the slimming world kick start week, which I was assured would reset my loss and I would lose a large amount in a week. It was an incredibly strict low calorie intake week. I did it 100%...... And lost the grand total of 1lb!!!! It took me the next 8 years to yo yo back up again. I tried SW another 3 times, but the results were never any good. The most I lost was just over a stone. I think I had messed up my body! On MJ I feel that this is my chance again. That "switch" seems to have turned on again. I have 14 stone as my first big goal to reach. I did feel quite comfortable being under the 15 stone mark last time, although less would be better.

I dream of getting to 10 stone 3lb. When I was a student nurse I went to the dr and said I wanted to lose weight and that was what I was then. 🙄😮🤦🏻

Anyway, enough rambling from me. Have a good day everyone. 💖

MCR24 · 01/02/2026 10:12

I'm still 69.9kg it's been 10 days now! I ate more yesterday so will see what happens tomorrow, it'll either be up or down!

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 01/02/2026 11:45

I was 9st as a student nurse and thought I was slightly overweight.

It's mad, looking back.

Also, after I had my second baby, I went up to 10st 6lb and was horrified. I went on a diet and got down to 8st 12lb.

It's so strange to look back at those times.

Well now, yesterday a friend drove me down to Glasgow to see DS.

I ate several rolls from the hospital cafe, then we got a Big Mac with chips plus a large milkshake on the way home.

I so rarely eat McDonald's because it's so far away.

This morning I'd lost 1lb, which kind of proves that eating a million calories for a day causes weightloss (if you've been eating very few for several days).

FourSeasonsTotalLandscaping · 01/02/2026 13:05

People I haven’t seen in a while have started saying to me “oh you look very well” which I am choosing to interpret as them registering I’ve lost a load of weight.

Doggymummar · 01/02/2026 13:06

Completely agree @TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne along my journey to lose weight (and for anyone who is not capable of critical thinking and realising we are all experimenting on ourselves and not suggesting other people follow suit) I was on high fat Keto 3000 calories a day and I lost a ton. Till I didn't. Every now and then we need to trick our bodies with something new

Good news from the hospital.
DS can walk and feel his legs again today.
They don't know what happened to him, but the MRI was clear, so they're sending him home.
He has been told to ring them if it happens again.

Bastard ex-h is making himself useful for once, and driving down to get him.

I hate the fact that the kids know his address and phone number and are effectively hiding it from me. I'm feeling very overwhelmed today, probably because I've barely slept since Thursday night and have been out of my mind with worry about DS.

I'M SO ANGRY WITH MY HUSBAND.

Brilliant news about your DS getting home@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne! Glad your ex is making himself useful finally - massive twat that he is.

I’ve been really shocked at my new baby hair! It’s fallen out at the speed of light the last couple months but look at the growth around my forehead!

Just catching up a little...

Oh gosh @TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne that sounds so frightening but I'm glad he's okay now.

And @PearlTeapot so very excited you have a going home date ❤️.

I've reached melted candle stage and not enjoying all the loose skin. If I lie on my side I can feel loose skin from the top bum cheek round my bum. I have loose skin on my thighs, I didn't think I'd have it over my knees but there's weight loss to go and I think I might. Arms I had made peace with as they're hidden but I cna now pull it back and see how it would look with surgery (which wed never afford)

My stomach is (relatively) huge, yet feels like an extra part of my body that isn't me. I can lift it all up and have a smooth lower stomach area, or move it to the side etc. It's like those videos of people after weight loss... Not jsut skin though actual full on fat on the stomach but it's all loose.

That said... It's better than the alternative.!! I saw a friend this weekend I'd not seen for a few months and she was really lovley at the end saying I looked good.
Another friend was less lovely but they've always been large but not as large as me... So I think she just found it hard.

The weight loss has slowed to just under a pound a week. But since beg December that's still half a stone! And just 2.5 stone to go 😁. And half a stone makes more of a difference at this weight (13st5) than when I started iave noticed.

I've also started getting reactions at the jab site for the first time. Not itchy just looks weird.

There's lots I'm loving though. Got my hair cut, and have started using very basic "makeup" (just mascara, neutral lip colour, moisturiser, serum) for the first time in pretty much 17 years. I asked my kids (and chatgpt) about some of these things and it's been really fun liking how I look more. IWith my new job I've also bought some new clothes and so get the excitement now! I didn't really the first 6-7 months other than soem cheapish summer dresses, but now I have new pants, nice socks I can wear (no digging in!) new work boots, new leggings and a few new dresses.

I realised I don't need to wear long flowy cards anymore too!

The whole look just looks visually so very very different from this time last year. I've lost around 8.5 stone so far. I don't look slim but I think I'd just look overweight now. Clothes hang much much better. I think I'll wear all this for a good couple more stone then do next set and hopefully those will then be the basis of a long term wardrobe.

Still see the odd thread or post of someone "so fat" and starting where I am now though 😂.
